Michael Mascoulis Biography

Former West Coast rookie Michael Mascoulis has died in a car accident near his home in Victoria.

The 20-year-old was on the Eagles' rookie list for the 2012 season and played for WAFL team West Perth.

"Michael was a larger than life character and loved the West Perth Football Club, and [was loved] by everyone at the club and we wish our sincerest condolences to his family at this terrible time," West Perth management said on the Falcons' Facebook page.

West Coast announces two further delistings, cutting Gerrick Weedon and Andrew Strijk.

They join rookies Anton Hamp, Callum Papertalk and Michael Mascoulis, who weren't offered new contracts.

"It is a difficult time of the year when you have to make tough calls," senior coach John Worsfold said.

"Both Gerrick and Andrew made good contributions to our club and gave it everything they had, but will not be continuing with us."

Injury plagued Michael Mascoulis wants to make sure the Eagles don't regret taking a chance on him in the rookie draft.

"I missed a big chunk of the season, so straight away I didn't really expect too much coming to the end of the year. I had a hamstring injury and I missed about 13-14 weeks through it," he said.

"It was a tear and then it just wouldn't heal properly, so it just kept on taking a while to come good. It's just fantastic that I've been given the opportunity."
