Paul Hamilton steps down as Essendon's football operations manager.

"In his time at Essendon, Paul has played an integral role in building the playing list and overseeing many important changes to the club's football program and operations," Essendon chief executive officer Ian Robson said.

"He has been able to apply both football and commercial nous to his role. I wish to thank Paul for his professionalism and the outstanding contribution he has made to the club."

Mark Thompson is set for a more hands-on role in Essendon's coaching set-up this season.

"He's probably just doing that little bit more," Essendon football manager Paul Hamilton said.

"He was quite heavily involved last year but he has stepped up another level in terms of Brendan McCartney not being there. It just means that he's really working more one-on-one with the players and having a big influence on the training track."
