Dermott Brereton Biography

Thursday, 18 April 2019
Dermott Brereton joins St Kilda as a part-time specialist forward coach.

"(It) is a bit of one-on-one tuition, or a bit of one-on-three tuition and just showing them some game-craft of being a forward," Brereton said.

Hawthorn has decided not to nominate Devlin Brereton or James Langford as possible father-sons ahead of the 2017 NAB AFL Draft.

Devlin, the son of Dermott Brereton, and James, the son of Chris Langford, were overlooked despite the club having first call on the pair.

St Kilda coach Alan Richardson has lashed out at Dermott Brereton over his "incredibly disrespectful" treatment of Saints veteran Leigh Montagna.

Brereton raised the ire of Richardson when he wrote, "There's a joke around the league that the hardest contested ball Montagna will fight for is against a teammate to take the kick-in after a behind."

Montagna revealed he had called Brereton to discuss what he felt was a cheap shot and was backed up by Richardson.

"I thought it was incredibly disrespectful," Richardson said on Fox Footy.

"Joey's been such an outstanding performer for a very long time ... when that (criticism) comes from someone like Dermott ... I thought it was really poor.

"And I think Joey's been on record to say that he's OK with people having a go at his footy and challenging where he's at from a footy perspective.

"Joey's been a pretty strong performer for us this year ... he's had a bad game.

"The club had a bad game, you could pick out many players who didn't perform well, but I thought it was pretty poor form by Dermott."

Melbourne radio station SEN 1116 has issued an on-air apology on Friday to St Kilda's head of football Chris Pelchen following comments made by Dermott Brereton on November 1.

Brereton, a five-time premiership player with Hawthorn, made personal comments in regards to Pelchen following the sacking of close friend Scott Watters as senior coach.

On SEN's The Run Home host Mark Allen issued an apology to Pelchen and the St Kilda Football Club for the interview that took place with Brereton on the show.

"During the course of that interview, Dermott made a number of comments about Chris Pelchen, the Club's Head of Football, that we have no reason to believe were accurate or with genuine basis," Allen said.

"SEN seeks to be impartial whilst welcoming free speech and the ability for callers to express strong opinions. We do not set out to make personal attacks and we welcome individuals to exercise a right of reply.

"We strive for honest, fairness, independence and respect.

"On reflection of Dermott's comments about Chris Pelchen, we accept that in this instance, we have not lived up to those principles and SEN, David (Schwarz, Allen's co-host) and I wish to acknowledge that on our program today."

Swans coach John Longmire says the club has taken offense to Dermott Brereton questioning the courage and fairness of Adam Goodes.

"I find it quite strange sitting here having to defend Adam Goodes's reputation," Longmire said.

He's won two Brownlow Medals. As far as I know they award those for the best and fairest player so I think Adam Goodes's reputation stands alone.

"I had a brief chat with Adam. Adam doesn't care what Dermott Brereton thinks and so he shouldn't."

Former Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton blasts Sydney champion Adam Goodes for allegedly trying to chop the legs of Hawthorn defender Josh Gibson.

The AFL Match Review Panel had cleared Goodes of the incident, saying he was making a legitimate attempt to kick the ball.

"Adam Goodes, as is his penchant ... lunges forward with a foot," Brereton said on SEN radio.

"To me, he knew exactly what he was doing and he chopped out Josh Gibson's leg. Quite possibly, that action can ruin somebody's career. In English football, that is a leg chop - that is red card stuff."

It's understood former Hawk Dermott Brereton is also in dispute with the Casey group over his property in the Torquay development.
