Collingwood has sounded out Carlton football boss Brad Lloyd about a senior management position amid the ongoing uncertainty at the Blues.

Lloyd met with Pies football director Paul Licuria for a walk meeting on Monday morning in Carlton which included a discussion about a vacant role in the Pies' list management team.

Fremantle list boss Brad Lloyd will join Carlton as its new head of football.

Lloyd, who has been with the Dockers since 2008, will replace outgoing football chief Andrew McKay ahead of the 2019 season.

During his 11-year tenure with the Dockers, which included time as national recruiting manager, Lloyd was predominantly based in Melbourne.

"I want to thank CEO Steve Rosich and president Dale Alcock for the investment and education they have provided me as a person and an employee," Lloyd said.

In anticipation of live trading on draft night, Fremantle sent list manager Brad Lloyd on a reconnaissance mission to the USA.

Lloyd spent a week at the NFL Draft Combine meeting with clubs and league officials ahead of looming changes to the NAB AFL Draft that could be implemented as soon as this season.

"It's all about getting experience and exposure, meeting with clubs to see how they go about things," Lloyd said.

"To see how they use the live trading, how the different rules changes come in and manage the salary cap."
