"It's never an easy decision to delist players, particularly Ed who has contributed so much to our program," Roos football boss Brady Rawlings told North Media.

"Ed endured a few hurdles with injury throughout his time and showed great determination through his rehabilitation."

"We're extremely disappointed for Ed who has worked extremely hard since his PCL injury to get back to playing footy," North Melbourne's footy boss Cameron Joyce said.

"He made the seamless transition back into the side throughout the JLT Series and looked to be well positioned for a great season."

Ed Vickers-Willis signs a new two-year deal with North Melbourne to remain at the club until the end of 2020.

The 190cm defender had been one of the Roos' most improved players over the first seven rounds of this season, showcasing an ability to play on smalls and talls and an increasing confidence to fly for his marks.

But his season ended abruptly in North's round seven win over Sydney, when he crashed into a behind post and injured his right posterior cruciate ligament.

"It's a pretty difficult time having been injured quite a few times, and especially this one," Vickers-Willis said.

"(I was) just starting to get some continuity at AFL level so I can't be thankful enough of the club just to put that faith in me that they know I can get back out there and play some good footy over the coming years."

Ed Vickers-Willis' season is over prematurely for the second straight year.

The 22-year-old will undergo surgery to repair the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, after crashing into a behind post at the SCG in the Roos' round seven victory over Sydney.

Ed Vickers-Willis has suffered another injury blow with a knee injury expected to sideline him for up to eight weeks.

Vickers-Willis had injured his posterior cruciate ligament in the club's round 11 loss to Richmond and would be in a knee brace for the next three weeks.

"No surgical intervention is needed but we anticipate a stint on the sidelines (for Vickers-Willis) of between six to eight weeks," North senior performance consultant Steve Saunders said.

Ed Vickers-Willis signs a new two-year deal with North Melbourne that will keep him at Arden Street until the end of 2018.

Vickers-Willis has yet to make his AFL debut after undergoing a left shoulder reconstruction midway through last season and a right shoulder reconstruction in December.

But the former Sandringham Dragon has made an impressive return in the VFL this year and has been named as an emergency several times in recent rounds.

"It's great to know that they want me here as a player and know that I can contribute to the football club in the future, so I'm really excited to sign on for another two years with North Melbourne," Vickers-Willis said.

"It's just been great to play footy this year. It's been a tough first two years at the club. Starting to learn that continuity is key when you are trying to improve and develop as a player and push for senior selection."

Luckless North Melbourne defender Ed Vickers-Willis is eyeing a return at the start of the season after undergoing his second shoulder reconstruction in as many years.

"I had surgery about four weeks ago. I'm just on the recovery trail. I'm doing a lot of strengthening work and slowly getting that range back so I can then get back to training in a few months," he said.

"Bang on four months from surgery is when the season starts, so hopefully I won't miss too many games."

Ed Vickers-Willis has copped another injury setback after hurting his 'good' shoulder during the club's training camp in Utah.

Vickers-Willis damaged his right shoulder in a tackling drill and is set to miss a chunk of the Kangaroos' pre-season campaign.

“It’s certainly very frustrating for Ed as he had returned to full training when this latest injury occurred on his opposite shoulder,” football operations manager Cameron Joyce said.

“He’s been working extremely hard to make his way back and was certainly impressing on the track, so it’s a bitter pill to swallow.

“While he will miss some of the pre-season campaign, we fully expect him to be ready to play once Round 1 rolls around at the end of March.”

Ed Vickers-Willis has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Vickers-Willis would have his left shoulder reconstructed this week after he dislocated it in the VFL last Saturday.

Vickers-Willis dislocated his shoulder as he tackled an opponent during Werribee's loss to Sandringham on Saturday. The team physio was able to relocate the shoulder within minutes, but scans earlier this week revealed surgery was necessary.

Despite the injury, Vickers-Willis is maintaining a positive attitude towards his rehabilitation.

"It gives me a chance to really be ready for the pre-season. It will be a long pre-season for me but I'll be right for next year," he said.

"I'm 19 ... I've still got a lot of footy ahead of me. There's nothing I can do now, besides get in to surgery and then get straight into the rehab."

North Melbourne selects Ed Vickers-Willis with pick No.36 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

"He's a 190cm midfielder," Kangaroos recruiting manager Bryce Lewis said.

"He did play as a defender on talls and smalls for Metro at the nationals. He was a bit of a trouble-shooter for them. But for Sandringham and for his school, he's played through the midfield, both on the wing and on the inside.

"We think he brings some flexibility."

Ed Vickers-Willis averaged nearly 20 disposals in nine games for the TAC Cup club this season.

Playing as a versatile defender, Vickers-Willis also made an impact for Vic Metro during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships to press his claims as a first-round draft selection.

On top of his footy, Vickers-Willis is widely seen among clubs as one of the most impressive players to interview in this draft pool.
