Monday, 27 June 2022
Majak Daw announces his retirement, effective immediately, citing injury troubles as the motivation for his decision.

"With my current injury troubles, I've taken the opportunity to reflect on where I'm at and where I'm heading and in speaking with my management and the club, we've all agreed that the timing is right for me to retire from the game," he said.

"By stepping away at this stage of the season I can focus on the next stage of my life and spend much more time on my most important and favourite job, being a loving and caring father to my son Hendrix."

Tuesday, 9 March 2021
Majak Daw has officially been granted a career lifeline after being added to Melbourne's list for 2021 as part of the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) signing rules.

"We invited Majak to train following injuries to Ben Brown and Sam Weideman," Demons list boss Tim Lamb said.

"He is progressing really well and we think he could play a valuable role for us during the season."

Majak Daw will play for suburban club North Heidelberg in 2021.

"We view the arrival of Majak as a big plus for the club as we look to consolidate in Division 1 of the NFNL after our third position finish in season 2019," the club said.

Thursday, 24 September 2020
Following a disastrous 2020 campaign where the Kangaroos finished second-last on the ladder, North Melbourne begins a savage cull of its list with eleven players delisted.

Leadership group members Jamie Macmillan and Jasper Pittard are among them, while Majak Daw's incredible comeback from serious injuries sustained two years ago looks over.

Ben Jacobs, Paul Ahern, Mason Wood, Sam Durdin, Marley Williams, Joel Crocker, Lachie Hosie, and Tom Murphy round out the Kangaroos' delistings.

Majak Daw will play his first AFL game in more than 700 days this weekend, with the utility to be selected for North Melbourne's clash against Adelaide at Metricon Stadium.

Thursday, 20 February 2020
Majak Daw will play his first competitive match at AFL level in 18 months in North Melbourne's Marsh Community Series opener.

Daw played only four VFL matches in 2019 after recovering from horrific hip and pelvic injuries in a fall from a Melbourne bridge in December 2018.

"I'm really proud and happy to say 'Maj' will play tomorrow night and it's going to be a really exciting time for him and his family and for the club," Shaw said.

"It's been a long journey for him and he's really put his head down and stuck to his task and really re-educated himself on what it takes to be an AFL footballer.

"He's done that and he's built up really well."

Friday, 14 February 2020
Majak Daw takes another step towards a senior return with a promising performance down back in North Melbourne's intraclub game.

"We have to be pretty cautious and over his career he's had a lot of injuries as well, so he's pretty much training Monday and Friday and keeping pretty quiet in the middle, to make sure come round one he's ready to go," Kangaroos teammate Jasper Pittard said of Daw.

Monday, 29 July 2019
Majak Daw won't play again in 2019 after suffering a hamstring injury in the VFL.

"With only four games until the end of the season, unfortunately he won't be able to recover in time to make it back to playing this season," Kangaroos football boss Cameron Joyce said.

"The scans revealed a decent tear and it would normally be a six-week injury."

Sunday, 7 July 2019
Majak Daw successfully completes his comeback game, six months after being rescued by emergency service workers from under Melbourne's Bolte Bridge.

Daw collected four disposals and appeared to adjust to the pace of the game as it progressed, but he didn't see any more action in the final three quarters.

"It was more 'Dip your toe in the water mate and see how you pull up'. Maybe 'Maj' could've played longer, maybe he couldn't have, I'm not sure, but we just assess now after a small sample size and take it from there," VFL coach David Loader said.

Wednesday, 3 July 2019
North Melbourne's high performance boss Alex Moore says Majak Daw's rapid rate of recovery, after smashing his hips and pelvis in mid-December is mind-boggling.

"When I first saw him in hospital, I thought at best – at this point in the year – we'd be lucky to have him walking properly," Moore said.

"With the nature of his injuries, he wasn't able to walk for a period of time, and we had to basically retrain how to walk and make those movements automatic.

"It's incredible how fast he's healed and also how fast he's been able to develop all the characteristics he needs to be able to play AFL football.

"We've just looked at him and it doesn't make sense at how quickly he's been able to do it."

Monday, 1 July 2019
Majak Daw is targeting a miraculous return to football this weekend via the VFL, six months after being rescued by emergency service workers under a Melbourne bridge.

Caretaker coach Rhyce Shaw also announced on Monday that Daw, who was out of contract at season's end, had re-signed for 2020.

"I'm pretty excited. I kind of wish the game was tomorrow. I suppose I've been waiting for this moment for a long time," Daw said.

"There's been a lot of work that's gone in to get me to this point. It's been pretty tough getting my body strong again. Believe it or not, I'm stronger than I've ever been.

"But knowing the expectation, and how hard it was going to be to get back, that was something I wanted to do (and) I'm almost there now."

Thursday, 14 March 2019
Majak Daw brought the North Melbourne gym to a standstill as he returned to running for the first time since his serious fall in December.

In a major boost on the eve of the 2019 season, the entire Roos playing group was on hand as Daw completed a session on the weight-bearing Alter-G treadmill.

Sporting a big smile, Daw couldn't his excitement as teammates cheered the biggest step in his recovery to date.

"So something pretty amazing happened today ... I’m so thankful for all the support that’s got me to this stage," Daw stated in a video posted on Twitter.

Monday, 11 February 2019
Majak Daw is present at North Melbourne's Arden Street headquarters for their official 2019 team photo as he continues his recovery from an incident on Melbourne's Bolte Bridge in December.

The 27-year-old sustained serious hip and pelvis injuries in his fall from the Bolte Bridge, but has been at the club several times since North's players returned from their Christmas break.

"We've been lucky enough to have Maj back over the last couple of weeks. He's been out at training doing some stuff," North Melbourne Jack Ziebell said.

"It's exciting for us to have him back and he's loving being back at the footy club as well, which is awesome to see."

Tuesday, 15 January 2019
Following a fall from the Bolte Bridge, Majak Daw pens an open letter thanking fans for their support ahead of a hopeful return to football.

"The circumstances surrounding my incident have been extremely challenging for my family, friends and anyone that knows me for that matter," Daw said.

"I'm making huge strides with my recovery, both physically and mentally. I have been blessed with a second chance at life. My attitude and outlook towards everything has improved.

"I hope to be back out there playing in the blue and white stripes soon."

Tuesday, 18 December 2018
Majak Daw sustains significant injuries to his hips and pelvis in an incident on Melbourne's Bolte Bridge on and is set to undergo surgery.

"Our primary concern, of course, is his mental and physical health and wellbeing, and also the wellbeing of his family, friends, teammates, coaches and the staff at the club," North Melbourne chairman Ben Buckley said.

"The club is providing full and ongoing support for Majak and his family and also the players and wider club community."

Tuesday, 28 August 2018
Majak Daw's breakout 2018 season after being rebooted as a defender came despite him managing a foot injury for the majority of the year.

Daw's foot was stomped on in North Melbourne's round five clash with Port Adelaide and he missed the following week's match against Sydney and the round 10 game against Fremantle.

"I have a fracture in one of the bones in my foot, so I've just got to get that fixed up," Daw said.

"I've been carrying this injury throughout the year, but the medical staff have done an amazing job managing me throughout the year.

"I really want to get it right now, so I don't have an interrupted season next year."

Sunday, 15 July 2018
Aliir Aliir hopes his duel with Majak Daw can inspire the next generation of Sudanese stars to play AFL.

Aliir was opposed to Daw for the opening three quarters before sneaking forward to clinch the Swans' six-point win over North Melbourne on Sunday.

"He set the tone for myself as a young kid playing under 18's, (while) he was the first Sudanese (player) to make it on an AFL list, I was looking up to him," Aliir said.

"He was able to contact me and give me advice and things like that and what I need to work on.

"Hopefully there's other Sudanese kids out there who want to play AFL footy one day, Majak certainly set the standards for us and I'm glad to see him doing well."

Friday, 18 May 2018
After his move into defence, Majak Daw now has a clear understanding of his role in a North Melbourne side which has exceeded expectation in 2018.

"I think I've caught some people by surprise of how well I've adapted to the position," Daw said.

"I'm still learning, I've still got a lot of work to do in terms of playing on different match-ups and learning when to come off [my opponent] and cover my teammates, that's the part of my game that needs to evolve."

Thursday, 15 March 2018
North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says he is convinced Majak Daw can make it as a defender despite being found wanting in the club's first pre-season match against Melbourne.

"He's got the capability to play back, he needs to learn the fundamentals of one-on-one defending," Scott told SEN radio.

"Given it's the first time he's ever played defence in his life, we were pleased with some of the other things he did.

"We think he can develop and he's certainly got the attributes to do it."

Thursday, 30 November 2017
Majak Daw says his focus this pre-season is on perfecting his craft as a footballer rather than improving his already-impressive physique.

"It's functional strength, doing a lot more of that. When I'm in rehab, I miss out on doing all that sort of stuff, the one-on-one marking contests and the rucking," Daw said.

"It's probably spending more time out there, doing the functional stuff, rather than the weights in the gym."

Tuesday, 14 November 2017
Majak Daw has handed in his former No.38 and will revive the No.1 next year, ending the jumper's two-season hiatus at Arden St.

"Maybe it's the change I need," Daw said.

"Changing my number was the last thing on my mind, but I asked the club to give me a couple of days to think about it.

"I'll be on the other side of the locker room now – I'm excited about it."

Wednesday, 26 July 2017
Majak Daw says he does not have a problem with being on the receiving end of a spray by North Melbourne coach Brad Scott during the Kangaroos' 27-point loss to Essendon.

"He wants the best out of me and I think someone like me, I've got a pretty thick skin," Daw said.

"The game was on the line so we needed to get going and he thought that could get me up and going.

"For me, it's just turning that spray into what can I work on during the week (and) what can I do with the ruck coach and midfield coach. I guess it's about learning really."

Saturday, 22 July 2017
North Melbourne coach Brad Scott defends a heated outburst directed towards Majak Daw as the club's ruck dilemma continues to present problems.

Scott was caught on camera directing a verbal barrage towards Daw after an up-and-down performance in the ruck against Essendon.

"The challenge for him is still the technical nature of the game because it's a bit incongruous that the strongest man ever to play the game at AFL level is getting pushed out of the way. 'Maj' and I had a bit of a laugh about it after the game," Scott said.

"We're going to work with him on that and keep supporting him. He showed glimpses without grabbing that mantle and saying, 'You have to play me first ruck irrespective of whose available next week.' So we're still going to have a decision to make next week."

Thursday, 13 July 2017
North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says Majak Daw needs a string of games in the seniors as part of his development.

"Maj's main issue, and the challenge for us, is he's had one complete pre-season in his entire AFL career and I think his longest consecutive games streak is about five or six," Scott said.

"So far he's played three in a row, so we just need to get some continuity and give him some opportunity.

"We all know the attributes he's got, but I think Dal's point is valid in terms of he's still learning. He's been in the system a long time, but we need to get some continuity so we can get that learning into him."

Monday, 10 July 2017
Majak Daw is being exposed at AFL level for his lack of football nous according to former North Melbourne teammate Nick Dal Santo.

"I still don't know what we get from Majak. (He) doesn't read the play well enough to impose himself as a forward," Dal Santo said.

"He's still learning the game, he's still developing the craft and the knowledge about the structures and the technical aspects of the game.

"But he's getting exposed at AFL level when other teams know it a lot better than he does."

Thursday, 22 June 2017
Majak Daw realizes he has yet to deliver on his potential since entering the AFL, having played just 26 games since his debut in 2013 and only one in so far in 2017.

"That's been the biggest thing with me ... it's been spoken about, my potential, but I haven't really played many games," Daw said.

"It's not the best number (his senior games), but it's really been out of my control.

"I'm still pretty optimistic, I have two years left on my contract and hopefully I can really make something of my career."

Saturday, 8 April 2017
Majak Daw is a late withdrawal from North Melbourne's squad to face GWS in Hobart after suffering concussion at training.
Monday, 20 March 2017
Majak Daw is putting pressure on himself to deliver for North Melbourne in 2017, saying it's time he lived up to his potential.

"In the past I've had players ahead of me in experience and players playing well, but now I think there's almost no excuse," Daw said.

"There's no reason why I can't be in the North Melbourne side. I've played a lot of games now and I've been at the club a long time – it's almost time for me to deliver for the team.

"I'm putting pressure on myself, but I feel like my body's fit and everything's going well, so I'm ready to have a good season."

Monday, 16 January 2017
Majak Daw receives better-than-expected news that his injured right knee injury will only sideline him for four weeks.

"It scanned a little bit worse than we actually found out it was, so we're looking at a timeframe for Maj of returning to full training in around four weeks, so we're really happy with the outcome," North senior performance consultant Steve Saunders said.

"It's a pretty minor procedure so there's a little bit of recovery time around that. Most of the time is around making sure that his muscular system is back up to scratch and he's ready for the loading associated, so that's why we're talking four weeks rather than two or three."

Friday, 13 January 2017
Majak Daw is facing a delayed start to the 2017 season after suffering a knee injury that is likely to sideline him for about eight weeks.

Daw tore the meniscus in his right knee during a straight-line running drill at training and underwent arthroscopic surgery on Friday afternoon.

"We discovered a tear in his meniscus so he was immediately referred to a specialist," North Melbourne football manager Cameron Joyce said.

"It's too difficult to put a timeframe on his return to full fitness at this stage, but we are confident he'll be available in the opening rounds of the season.

"We'll know the extent of damage and amount of recovery time required after the surgery has been performed. At that point we will provide a further update to our members."

Monday, 26 September 2016
Majak Daw's incredible hanger against Collingwood in round 18 is selected as the 2016 Mark of the Year.

Daw received 45.8 per cent of the public vote.

Wednesday, 21 September 2016
Majak Daw signs a three-year deal with North Melbourne that will keep him at the club until the end of 2019.

"I'm really excited to sign another contract extension and remain at the Roos," Daw said.

"I've been at North Melbourne since 2009 and couldn't see myself playing anywhere else.

"The club has been great to me and so have the fans, who I think are definitely the most passionate in the AFL."

Tuesday, 2 August 2016
Out-of-contract North Melbourne tall Majak Daw wants to stay at Arden Street despite limited senior opportunities and growing interest from rival clubs.

"Majak is happy at North Melbourne and wants to stay there. At the appropriate time we'll sit down with North and work through things," Daw's manager Shane Casley said.

Saturday, 23 July 2016
Brad Scott says North Melbourne will persist with frustrating but talented big man Majak Daw after watching him take "almost the best mark I've ever seen" against Collingwood on Friday night.

The best and worst of Daw was on display at Etihad Stadium, with fans tearing their hair out after the 195cm forward also gave away two 50m penalties for encroaching in the 10m protected zone around the mark in the second quarter.

But the athletic big man's huge climb over Jonathon Marsh in the next term will stick longest in the memory, as he soared above the Magpies defender to cleanly take a mark of the year contender.

"We've invested a lot in Maj and Maj has invested a lot of hard work," Scott said.

"That was almost the best mark I've ever seen. He can do incredible things and we'll just keep working with him."

Thursday, 9 June 2016
North Melbourne might have a fight on their hands to keep Majak Daw beyond this season but Brad Scott is adamant the seldom-used ruckman still has a bright future at Arden Street.

Despite his undoubted natural athleticism and continued development, Daw has managed just 18 games in six seasons with the Kangaroos, with just two of those coming this year.

Daw put in an eye-catching performance last week when he replaced injured lead ruck Todd Goldstein, leading to speculation rival clubs will look to lure the 25-year-old with the promise of greater playing opportunities.

"That's all fine, there will be speculation throughout the year, but we've got a lot of faith in Majak," Scott said.

"You don't have to look too deeply at our forwards, particularly their age, to see that there's going to be great opportunity here at North Melbourne for a long time."

Tuesday, 24 May 2016
Out of contract as season's end, Majak Daw says he isn't yet contemplating moving clubs next year for more opportunity despite finding it hard to break into North Melbourne's senior side.

"It's probably a bit too early to talk about moving somewhere else (because) it's only round 10 and we've got plenty of footy ahead of us," Daw said.

"Initially I was pretty disappointed at not maintaining my spot in the side, but I think the strength of the club this year is anyone can come in (and) do a job for the team.

"It came back to team structure because we played pretty tall against Essendon and that wasn't sustainable.

"I still think I'll come back in the side and I've got a massive role in the team to play."

Tuesday, 15 March 2016
Majak Daw is upgraded to North Melbourne's primary list.

North Melbourne assistant coach Josh Drummond said Daw's ability to also play forward could be especially advantageous with the elimination of the sub rule.

"It’s going to be new and every team will attack it in a different way. It just gives us more flexibility as to how we pick the team," Drummond said.

"We’ve seen what he can do in small spurts, but the ability to get a pre-season together will help him be more consistent in games."

Tuesday, 19 January 2016
Rookie Majak Daw will be available to play senior football from round one this season, with North Melbourne set to elevate the tall to bolster its ruck options.

North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says he expects to see a sharp improvement in Daw's form in 2016 after the key forward was recently acquitted of three rape charges.

"I find it incomprehensible what he's gone through and what he's had to deal with and the brave face that he's put on," Scott said.

"The club's been there to support him, but he can only be better for having cleared this space now.

"Hopefully he can focus fully on footy now and he'll show the improvement that we know is in him."

Thursday, 7 January 2016
Majak Daw believes he can fulfill his potential at North Melbourne next season, now that his sole focus will be on playing football.

"Coming to training (now) I don't have to think about any external factors of what I've been through," Daw said.

"For the first time in a long time I can do a full pre-season. I don’t have my court case holding me back. So for me there's really no excuse (not) to maximise my opportunity."

Tuesday, 5 January 2016
Majak Daw says he feels a great deal of relief after being acquitted on three counts of rape.

"Eight years is a long time. Having to think about it every day … it just hasn't sunk in yet," Daw said.

"All I can say is it's never going to be brought up. I can work on building back my reputation, but I feel like I can walk taller now and no one can judge me."

Thursday, 3 December 2015
Majak Daw has been acquitted on three counts of rape, freeing the North Melbourne rookie to continue his AFL career.

The jury in Daw's Victorian County Court trial found him not guilty of all charges relating to an alleged incident involving a 15-year-old girl in Altona Meadows in 2007, when Daw was 16.

Relatives of Daw, now 24, cried and let out sighs of relief when the jury delivered the verdict of not guilty on all three charges of rape.

"I've been through this, I can get through anything in life," he said.

He thanked his family and friends for supporting him.

Daw's father, William, raised his arms and exclaimed "Hallelujah" outside the court.

Tuesday, 24 November 2015
Majak Daw's lawyer, David Sexton, says Daw did not force the young woman who accuses him of rape into having intercourse during his client's trial.

Sexton said there was no dispute that the pair engaged in sexual activity by a creek in Melbourne's west after a house party in 2007, but this was "utterly consensual", and did not involve intercourse.

Monday, 23 November 2015
Majak Daw has arrived at the County Court for the first day of his rape trial.

The 24-year-old is facing three charges over an incident alleged to have happened at a party in Melbourne's west in March 2007.

Thursday, 29 October 2015
North Melbourne delists Majak Daw but intends to select him in the rookie draft, provided he is still available.

"Majak has certainly shown glimpses of what he can do and we will aim to re-draft him as a rookie in November's draft," general manager of football operations and list management Cameron Joyce said.

Tuesday, 16 December 2014
Majak Daw will stand trial after pleading not guilty to raping a teenage girl in 2007.

According to court documents released on Tuesday, the alleged victim - who was 16 at the time - said she screamed "get off me" but Daw put his hand over her mouth to silence her.

The woman said she was extremely scared and frightened and struck out at her attacker, who then restrained her by holding her hands above her head.

"I knew I was not going to be able to stop him," the woman said in her statement to police.

Monday, 15 December 2014
The best friend of a teenage girl who was allegedly raped by North Melbourne player Majak Daw says her friend was "hysterical" when she found him on top of her.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told Melbourne Magistrates Court that she discovered Daw lying on top of her 16-year-old friend when she went to look for her at a party.

Giving evidence on Monday, the witness said she was alarmed when she heard her friend crying as she searched for her outside the house party in Melbourne's west in March 2007.

"She was lying on the ground," the witness said. "He had one hand on her chest."

She added it appeared that Daw, who was not wearing his pants, was "restraining" her and they appeared to be in the "missionary position".

Holding back tears the woman, who said she was aged 15 at the time of the alleged incident, said: "She was kicking her legs. I feel like her legs were restrained as well. She was squirming, if you like."

She said Daw, now 23, moved off her friend when he saw she was there and left the creek-side area in Altona Meadows.

Although it was dark, the witness said she was able to see what was happening, and remembered the incident vividly despite the lapse in time.

Asked if her friend appeared drunk, she said: "Nah, hysterical".

She told the court that she tried to comfort the girl but could not get much sense out of her as she was so upset.

She said that although she later questioned her about what happened, she did not want to talk about it.

The alleged victim also gave evidence on Monday but journalists were not allowed to listen in.

Daw, who is facing three counts of rape, sat in the court room during the committal hearing, which is set to last two more days.

Friday, 22 August 2014
Sixteen witnesses will be called to give evidence in the rape case against North Melbourne's Majak Daw.

Daw, 23, is facing three counts of rape over an alleged incident involving a girl when he was aged 16 in 2007.

Daw appeared on crutches for the brief Melbourne Magistrates Court hearing on Friday, where he was supported by a group of friends and family.

Monday, 11 August 2014
Majak Daw will miss the rest of the season after scans confirmed he dislocated his foot in the VFL on Sunday.

The North Melbourne forward was rushed to hospital after landing awkwardly in a marking contest while playing for Werribee and left the field on a stretcher.

There were fears he may have sustained a broken leg, but at this stage is expected to avoid surgery. He is likely to be in a cast for up to six weeks as he recovers.
Sunday, 10 August 2014
Majak Daw suffers a serious lower leg injury in the VFL.

Playing for Werribee, Daw was stretchered from the ground and taken to Epworth Hospital for scans.

It is understood Daw may have sustained a dislocated ankle or break to his lower leg and it appears likely his season is over.
Friday, 11 July 2014
Majak Daw has appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on rape charges.

The 23-year-old wasn't required to speak during the brief filing hearing.

He was accompanied by family members and manager Adam Ramanauskas.

The case was adjourned for a committal mention hearing on August 22.

Tuesday, 1 July 2014
Majak Daw has been charged by police over a historical sexual assault.

His club is standing by him, declaring he'll still be available for VFL and AFL selection.

The AFL said it supports the club's stance but reserves the right to take action at a later time.

The League has also ruled that Daw will now be restricted in his promotional duties for the AFL and North Melbourne.

Daw has reportedly denied the allegations which date back to 2007.

"Sexual Crimes squad detectives charged a 23-year-old Wyndham Vale man with three counts of rape on 30th June," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

"The charges relate to a historical sexual assault in Altona North in 2007. As the matter is now before the court, it's inappropriate to comment further."

North Melbourne confirmed the charges in a statement on Tuesday morning.

"The North Melbourne Football Club can confirm Majak Daw has been charged by Victoria Police in relation to an alleged sexual offence in 2007," the statement read.

"The club respects the integrity of the legal process and asks the right to privacy of all involved be respected.

"North Melbourne will support Majak and he will remain available for selection at VFL and AFL level.

"This is the subject of an ongoing legal proceeding and it is not appropriate for Majak or North Melbourne to make any comment."

Monday, 16 June 2014
Majak Daw is questioned by police over an alleged sexual assault in 2007, an allegation Daw vehemently denies any knowledge of.
Sunday, 25 May 2014
North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says criticism of Majak Daw is unwarranted after the tall utility had a quiet game in a 20-point loss to Geelong.

"It's ridiculous - he's played 10 games," Scott told Channel Seven's Game Day.

"Majak needs a bit more time and we're going to have to work out what's best for the team in the short and long term.

"But I'm convinced Majak has a future in the long term."

Friday, 21 February 2014
A spectator is evicted from Aurora Stadium after abusing North Melbourne ruckman Majak Daw during the third quarter of the NAB Challenge clash against Hawthorn.

Fans seated around the Hawthorn supporter alerted authorities immediately and he was escorted from the stadium within minutes.

It is unclear whether the abuse was racial in tone, but the supporter was howled down by those sitting nearby.

"Unfortunately there are still idiots out there, but if anything good was to come out of it, it was a hawthorn supporter but other Hawthorn supporters around made it known to him that it wasn't on and those supporters are to be applauded," North Melbourne coach Brad Scott said.

"It is disappointing. Majak has been through a lot in his life – far worse than this – but it is disappointing that these things still exist."

Jobe Watson joins Demon Jimmy Toumpas, Magpie Patrick Karnezis, Giant Stephen Coniglio, and Lin Jong from the Western Bulldogs as new multicultural ambassadors in 2014 to help grow the game alongside existing ambassadors Nic Naitanui, Bachar Houli, Karmichael Hunt, Majak Daw, and Alipate Carlile.

"Since the introduction of the AFL multicultural ambassador program in 2012, we are delighted by the enthusiasm, insight and cultural guidance the ambassadors have provided to communities and the AFL industry," AFL chief Andrew Demetriou said.

"In 2014, we are excited to have Jobe, Jimmy, Patrick, Stephen and Lin as part of this important program and look forward to the 10 ambassadors playing a lead role in encouraging individuals and communities to unite through their passion for Australia's game."

Kangaroos coach Brad Scott says Majak Daw's potential is being hampered by injuries.

"He played under duress last year … but [his PCL] is now really stable, he's running really well," Scott said.

"Physically he looks fantastic as everyone knows, but I think in terms of what he's going to do (this season) it's really hard to say.

"But in saying that I have really high hopes for where he can get to. He can do things that others simply can't.

"But we've got a lot of work to do with him and it's been frustrating that he hasn't been able to train during the pre-season because that's the time that we use to work with him."

Friday, 16 August 2013
Majak Daw will have a knee reconstruction on his PCL on Friday afternoon, which will sideline him for up to six months.

The 22-year-old has been managing a knee issue for most of the year but North's medical team made the call to have the surgery to ensure the problem did not worsen.

Friday, 12 July 2013
Majak Daw signs a new deal with North Melbourne that will keep him at the club until the end of 2015.

"It's a big commitment from the club to me," Daw said.

"I'm just so happy that the club are willing to give me that opportunity again, I know I've got a lot of hard work to do from now until 2015.

"I'd like to add more games to my career so far, it's a great club to be a part of."

Exciting North Melbourne forward Majak Daw has suffered his second concussion of the season while playing for Werribee - one of the Kangaroos' VFL affiliate teams - in a Foxtel Cup semi-final in Perth when he accidentally copped a hip-and-shoulder from teammate Ben Speight in the second term.

Former Kangaroo Aaron Edwards will face his former as a Tiger and North Melbourne coach Brad Scott admits the club was reluctant to let him go.

"We'd have love to have kept him - but we really felt if Aaron Edwards stayed on our list, then Aaron Black would have been playing the VFL," Scott said.

"Majak Daw wouldn't have had his opportunity this year. We're fortunate in terms of the number of key position forwards we've had on our list.

"It was disappointing to lose Azza, but we had to keep moving forward. I hope he doesn't hurt us."

Sunday, 12 May 2013
Majak Daw kicks six goals against the Western Bulldogs in his fourth AFL game leading Kangaroos coach Brad Scott to compare the hype surrounding the big forward to that of Eagles star Nic Naitanui.

"His challenge is to be able to do it when things aren't working for him, and find another way to get the footy, and we're continually working with him (on that)," Scott said about Daw.

"Majak's got different strengths to Naitanui. We've got to remember Nic Naitanui was pick two overall in the national draft; Majak was a rookie selection, so essentially Majak was in the hundreds.

"But 'Maj' is a good example of what you can do with really hard work. Hard work trumps talent any day of the week."

North Melbourne players Majak Daw, Lindsay Thomas and Daniel Wells are reported to have been racially abused by a Hawthorn supporter during a match at the MCG.

"We would encourage any stadium patron to phone or text in to the advertised number and immediately report any anti-social or nuisance behaviour so the matter can be managed by the ground security, and the club if required," Hawthorn chief executive Stuart Fox said.

"Racial vilification at the football in any form is offensive and totally unacceptable – not just to the target of the vilification but also to all players and supporters."

Tuesday, 23 April 2013
Hawk great Dermot Brereton says Majak Daw is well equipped to handle the expectations and hype that surround him.

"You're talking about a bloke who's in his early twenties, who hits the scales at around 100 kilos and is as physically adept at taking on the opposition as anyone who's ever played the game. He can handle himself," Brereton said.

"So in general terms he's a young, mature man who now has some confidence that he can compete at AFL level.

"He's been around long enough now and he speaks quite well. (Before his debut) I heard him say he's proud of the way he's handled the pressure so far, so I think he'll cope with it."

Monday, 22 April 2013
Majak Daw only plays 20 minutes on debut after being taken from the ground with concussion following a head clash with teammate Ben Cunnington.

The big forward, however, has fans and teammates excited after taking a big grab and kicking a goal with his first kick in the AFL.

"It was a fairytale start, I think," teammate Scott Thompson said.

"It's exciting for his future. He's a great athlete and I can't wait to see him play more footy.

"His athletic ability is impressive. One on one he's a hard player to play against, so we've got full confidence in him that he can do his role and take those big marks."

Sunday, 21 April 2013

Tuesday, 26 March 2013
Kangaroos coach Brad Scott says Majak Daw will more than likely make his debut in 2013, maybe even in round one.

"We think he's an absolutely viable option for us now. I'm not just using coaching clichés when I say he's in the mix. He's genuinely in the mix and if he gets his chance this week I'm sure he'll acquit himself really well," Scott said.

"I've got great confidence he's going to play senior football this year."

Wednesday, 27 February 2013
Despite an impressive showing in the NAB Cup, North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says Majak Daw is still learning the game.

"We're trying to simplify the game for him at the moment," Scott said.

"I said before the game that he would do a few things that would make people stand up and take notice.

"But he's still really working hard on the fundamentals of the game. He didn't see Brad McKenzie on the inside. It's very easy in hindsight to say he should've passed it off - he simply didn't see him. And they're the fundamentals that I'm talking about."

Saturday, 23 February 2013
After an impressive display against Richmond in the NAB Cup, Majak Daw says he still has a long way to go to become a success in the AFL.

"I'm starting to see the progress of the hard work I've done so far,'' Daw said.

"But I mean it's only a small step in terms of what those guys have been through. Boomer just comes to the club, does everything to the best of his ability day in, day out.

"I've just got to try to be like those guys.''

Robbie Tarrant says he is under pressure to keep his spot with the emergence of young forwards in Aaron Black, Majak Daw and Tom Curran.

"I feel a lot of pressure to keep lifting my game," Tarrant said.

"Blacky's had a really good pre-season, he's really taken his fitness base to a new level, and Majak has improved so much over the last few seasons.

"Tommy Curran has been able to get out on the track now too. Unfortunately for him last year he only played a couple games of VFL before he hurt his foot.

"If there was no pressure you might rest on your laurels a little bit, but it's really good at the minute because you know full well you have to continue to work on your game and improve."

Monday, 1 October 2012
Majak Daw has been promoted to North Melbourne's senior list.

"Majak had to earn the right to be elevated and he did that. His form in the VFL was really good," North football chief Donald McDonald said.

"We're really excited that he's finally now on our senior list. In terms of his fitness and knowledge of the game, he's ready to play senior footy now. But Majak will dictate whether he earns a spot or not."

Wednesday, 1 August 2012
North Melbourne's Majak Daw is under no illusions of what is required to be elevated to the Kangaroos' senior list.

"[North coach Brad Scott] wants me to get involved in more contests and take more marks," Daw said.

"I think I just need to run out games a bit more … and be a bit more consistent."

Tuesday, 26 June 2012
Majak Daw hopes Tom Curran's move to the long-term injury list will open the door for him to play his first senior game.

"My aim for the year is to be more consistent, hopefully get an elevation and hopefully get a senior game," Daw said.

"That's my goal: to play my first game. I don't know when it's going to happen. I've just got to be patient."

Port Adelaide's Chad Wingard says taking on idol Daniel Wells, who signed his poster many years ago, gives the clash with North special significance.

"To show that someone would go out of their way just for a supporter who really doesn't follow football, he didn't know me and it just shows how much he cares about everyone who supports him," Wingard said.

"I've met him a couple of times, but he wouldn't remember, it was just through the AIS casually and I knew Majak Daw…I kind of just went up to him and asked for a photo - I've got photos on Facebook and stuff like that of him.

"He's just been an inspiration for me."

Thursday, 12 April 2012
Majak Daw has been cleared of a rough conduct charge after a VFL clash with Daniel Pratt.

"As the ball got kicked I had a genuine attempt to go for the mark, I was running at the ball," Daw told the tribunal.

"He was cutting in front of me, I could see player Pratt's number in the position I was. And when the ball dropped short I was in one motion, I couldn't change the way I was going to go."

Sunday, 8 April 2012
Majak Daw and former Roo Daniel Pratt come to blows during a VFL game with Pratt having to leave the ground due to the blood rule.

Tuesday, 13 March 2012

"We all go through adversity, it's just how you respond to what you face," Daw said.

"I see this as an opportunity to come back stronger than ever.''

Thursday, 16 February 2012
Leigh Adams says North Melbourne players are disappointed with Majak Daw's recent behaviour but they will help the rookie move on.

"Although it's disappointing, the boys still back him 100 per cent and hopefully he'll be back at the club pretty soon," Adams said.

"It's sort of water under the bridge. He came back for the (team) photo, he'd only been away a week or two, and none of the boys have got any ill feelings towards him or anything like that."

Sunday, 12 February 2012
Former Kangaroo Daniel Pratt has broken his silence over the Majak Daw's relationship with his former girlfriend.

"I don't go down that path with that sort of thing, going out with a mate's ex-girlfriend," Pratt said.

"He can do whatever he wants. It was 18 months ago. It's water under the bridge. I don't want to speak to him about this."

Wednesday, 8 February 2012
North Melbourne rookie Majak Daw has been suspended indefinitely for unprofessional behaviour which includes lying to the coach about his whereabouts while undergoing rehabilitation for an injury.

"Trust is everything, not only in football clubs but everywhere, so when that trust is breached, you've got an issue you have to deal with," North Melbourne coach Brad Scott said.

"The bottom line is Majak is in rehabilitation because he has an injured knee at the moment and he went out when he shouldn't have. When I asked him about that, he was untruthful."

Tuesday, 7 February 2012
A knee injury could prevent exciting North Melbourne rookie Majak Daw from playing in the NAB Cup series.

"My knee was playing up a bit late last year and there was a lot of swelling in it," Daw said.

"So I just went in for an arthroscope and they cleaned all the gunk out of it.

"I am coming through all the rehab well, but I don't think I will be in contention for NAB Cup just yet. Personally I'd love to be able to play, but I still have some work to do to catch up on my fitness."

Friday, 9 December 2011
Majak Daw will miss a small part of North Melbourne's pre-season after minor knee surgery.

"Majak required an arthroscopic 'wash out' of his knee after a recent aggravation of a previous PCL [posterior cruciate ligament] injury," North Melbourne director of medical services Steve Saunders said.

"He will commence rehabilitation in two days time and will be ready when squad training recommences in January."

Thursday, 20 October 2011
North Melbourne's Majak Daw receives an invitation to meet the Queen but politely declines.

"I'm overwhelmed to be invited to such a prestigious event and have the opportunity to meet the Queen," Daw said.

"It's an honour because an invitation like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. [But] I am flying out on Friday for our pre-season camp in Utah so won't be able to make it. It's a pity that I won't be able to attend, but I'm still very honoured."

Monday, 6 June 2011
A Port Melbourne supporter has been banned from attending matches until he agrees to undergo a racial and religious vilification program after his racist tirade against Kangaroo youngster Majak Daw.

"We want to send a strong message that this is our players' workplace and the workplace of other officials and spectators who pay money and who should be able to play the game free of offensive behaviour," AFL Players Association chief executive Matt Finnis said.

Saturday, 4 June 2011
North Melbourne's Sudanese rookie Majak Daw has been racially abused by a spectator while playing for Werribee in the VFL.

"I would have thought we're more advanced in this day and age than to be verbally abusing players in that manner," Werribee coach Paul Satterley said.

"There's no room in footy for that sort of behaviour."

Thursday, 4 February 2010
After just six weeks of training at North Melbourne, Majak Daw says he has plenty of hard work to do if he wants to play AFL football.

"I just have to work hard; impress the coaches that I'm ready to play. The harder you work the quicker things will happen for you, and it's going to be up to me and how badly I want to play the game," Daw said.

Majak Daw receives more than 1,300 Facebook friend requests within a couple of days of being taken by the Kangaroos in the 2010 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
Tuesday, 15 December 2009
Majak Daw will become the AFL's first Sudanese-born player after North Melbourne selected him in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"He's bloody exciting to watch. We had people rocking up just to watch him," Daw's coach at the Murray Bushrangers, Steve Kretiuk said.

"He's such a quiet kid but he does listen. He does work hard at training and he's got that desire to succeed.

"He's a pillar of the community now. So many people look up to him, which is great for a kid at that age."

North Melbourne assistant coach Darren Crocker believes the club can develop Daw's potential.

"We were really keen to get Majak through the door, firstly because of the potential he shows as a future AFL player," Crocker said.

"Majak would be the first to admit that he's got certain areas of his game that he has to really work hard on, but we'll really back our development program in to have him fulfil his potential and play senior football for North Melbourne."
