Ross Lyon on the Saints' chemistry as a team:
"It's like a relationship, chemistry takes time, doesn't it, unless you fall in love. I think our boys are working through their relationship."
Ross Lyon on the Swans' style of play:
"The Swans dug in and made an enormous contest. I really thought it was one-on-one footy, really hard after half-time."
Ross Lyon on being pleased with the win:
"At the minute, we're not sure if the glass is half full or half empty, but there's a lot to like about our summer and a round-one win, really."
Ross Lyon on Clinton Jones' mark:
"It's as courageous an effort as you'll see I reckon, for a player under 20 games."
Ross Lyon on winning ugly:
"To be sort of able to hang in and win ugly, we feel we've done that the last couple of times, we're confident our form will come if we keep persisting like this."
Paul Roos on why the game was such a dour struggle:
"St Kilda had numbers back and when you try and spread and run from defence that can be an attacking move. But when the defence holds its ground then it can become a defensive struggle."
Paul Roos on a poor game by Adam Goodes:
"For us to be a good team he needs to play a hell of a lot better than that. It is one thing having an ordinary game and it is another thing trying to get out of that as quickly as possible."
Paul Roos on being pleased with the game despite the loss:
"There were a lot of positives in the second, third and fourth quarters with new players coming into the team so we were reasonably pleased in the end, as pleased as you can be with losing a game of footy and understanding it is round one and we've got a lot of improvement to get to where we want to get to."
Tadhg Kennelly on the Swans' disposal:
"Our ball use was very disappointing because we tried to work on that all summer, we're still not using it well enough."
Tadhg Kennelly on the difference between the first quarter and the rest of the game:
"I don't think we turned up to play in the first quarter and they jumped us really. We were all over the place with spare men going everywhere. We just didn't play Swans one on one football. We closed them down in the second, third and last quarter and had our opportunities to win the game but we couldn't kick straight either."
Tadhg Kennelly on missing goals:
"No one means to not kick goals but it's disappointing when you work so hard and we don't kick the goals like we should but we'll work on it and it's not the end of the world but it would have been nice to start out with a win."
Paul Roos on being able to communicate better from the boundary line:
"There's so much preparation that goes into the week and so much communication that goes on between players and coaches, then all of a sudden you get to game day and there's sort of no communication between players and coaches."
Paul Roos on coaching from the boundary line:
"When it's close towards the end, it's a lot easier to work your match-ups and see who looks fresh or who doesn't look fresh. You probably feel a little bit more in control of the game. You are able to assess the players, how they look on the ground and when they're coming off."
Paul Roos on both teams:
"There are obviously some areas that both teams are going to improve in, it's round one, both teams are going to get a lot better than that."
