"I had to be a bit inventive there at times because I was not confident kicking on my right foot, which was obviously still a little bit sore. I was just glad to get through the game."

"He was very good, we're very pleased with Mark. We know he's had a good pre-season, and he's still a young ruckman in rucking terms. But the bonus for us is that he hasn't been overworked in the early part of his career. He's got a long career ahead of him and he's going to keep improving. "I'm not sure exactly, but maybe their first three or four goals were just our poor errors that gave them easy goals. That got them right into the game, and our guys got a bit more hesitant after that."

"Our decision making and ball use for the start of the season was exceptional in the first quarter, but we came back to the field a lot after that."
Jonathan Brown on being dehydrated in the dry Perth heat:
"I had a bit of blurred vision at halftime, I lost a little bit of weight but there were a lot of players in that boat. My faculties were fine, I had a rest in the third quarter but that was more a rotation thing."
Leigh Matthews on only having six days recovery before the next match:
"It's a challenge but if you do everything right then we'll come up OK in six days time. But you won't be able to be sloppy in your preparation protocols and your rehydration and you wouldn't even think about looking at a bit of alcohol for instance. Certainly each player has to make sure he has a deluxe recovery and if that's done we'll come up fine on Friday night."
Leigh Matthews on pegging back the lead after quarter time:
"I didn't think we made major adjustments. I think we just started to play a bit better and we started to win the ball. We were certainly getting really badly beaten in the clearances and the stoppages - we got badly beaten there over the whole night - but we did better than we did early."

"We worked hard to get back in the lead after the bad first quarter, but they were a bit strong in the end. We got stitched up at ground level in their forward 50 early."

"We were too dependent on our marking forwards. We needed to get more guys to sniff out a chance or two and finish when it is their turn."
