Chad Cornes on the 2007 Grand Final loss:
"It definitely hurts. You know you are going to cop it everywhere you go. We've moved on. It was a great season. No one expected us to be there. It is just a shame - one bad day in such a great year. We'll take so much more positives out of last year than the one negative of the grand final."
Warren Tredrea on his form last season:
"I was able to contribute in a lot of games, and towards the end of the season I thought my form was really good. But knowing that I still didn't have the power in my leg, the recovery from jumping, twisting, turning, I was playing restricted."
Warren Tredrea on Port Adelaide's pre-season:
"We were really happy with our pre-season and I think we are approaching the season in good form. You only really know how you are going when the season starts, but we play at home in conditions we have been training in, so we will be having a crack at it."
Warren Tredrea on Geelong:
"I think everyone has voted that they are the team most likely to win the premiership and I must admit, I think they are, because if they tune in and perform like they did, then they will be mighty hard to beat. But we look forward to that. The only way you are going to learn is to take on the best and beat them and what better chance is there for us?"
Mark Williams on Geelong's form:
"If you looked at their pre-season form, they lose by a kick in Canberra and then they belted every other side, so I would expect them to be in cherry ripe form and very confident."
Mark Williams on playing debutant Paul Stewart:
"I'm really happy with Paul's form over the pre-season and to get another first-year, first-game player up is terrific for our club and we need personnel like Paul to develop and we'll give him every opportunity."
Mark Williams on talking to his players about the Grand Final:
"I'm sure all you people and anyone else who wants to talk to them can, but as far as we're concerned we're playing here and it's 0-0."
Mark Williams on on the Power's pre-season:
"We're certainly better prepared than we were last year. We had a few weeks less to prepare obviously, having made last year's grand final, and that does put a lot of stress on the pre-season but the players made a pact to come back in healthy condition and they did."
Kane Cornes on the Power's style of football against Geelong:
"If playing attacking footy doesn't work we'll look at changing it up, but certainly that's how we'll start off. Both sides play very attacking and that's why it's going to be so good to watch."
Kane Cornes on the 2007 Grand Final loss:
"I think the Grand Final was just a bad day and, to be honest with you, I haven't thought too much about the lessons that I've learned from it. I've written it off as a bad day in the great year that we had and this year is another year."
Kane Cornes on the significance of a Round 1 win:
"Obviously, it gives us a good start to the season, but it doesn't make up for what happened last year and it never will. It's no more important than round two and we're just looking forward to finally getting out there and playing a real game after having run around the oval for a few months."
Domenic Cassisi on the importance of a win in Round 1:
"Getting a win in Round 1 is massive for a club and the team's confidence. It repay's the hard work put in over the summer."
Domenic Cassisi on moving on from their Grand Final defeat:
"We can't change the result of that game. We knew we'd have to play Geelong at some time this year - it happens to be Round 1. Hopefully, we can prove all the critics wrong from that day last year."
Cameron Ling on the Cats' premiership defence:
"We haven't spoken about going onto win two or three or anything like that, it's been our theme right throughout that we concentrate on smaller steps along the way."
Cameron Ling on being premiership favourites:
"There's definitely those expectations that we're going to have an all right season. But I'm thinking about the first quarter against Port Adelaide, and probably even breaking that down to the first 10 minutes and the first contest type thing."
Mark Thompson on Brad Ottens:
"He's going to miss one week but we're really confident that he'll be right for round two."
Mark Thompson on Port still hurting from the Grand Final:
"It's been a long time but obviously they would be. The one team they probably would really like to beat would be Geelong."
Mark Thompson on playing in Adelaide:
"It's always a hard assignment playing in Adelaide, and playing Port Adelaide, who are a really good team, makes it a very challenging game."
Mark Thompson on going into 2008 as the reigning premiers:
"It doesn't feel different. The build-up has been pretty much the same. We're sick and tired of the practice match series and we're looking forward to playing."
