If Essendon are gonna be playing finals, this is the year where Courtney Johns will play a big part of it!!

Guys he actually didnt do too bad in the backline against West Coast and then when they threw him Forward he started to fumble but was impressed with him down back

Johns is better off going elsewhere. I understand that he had all the injuries etc. but i've never sat there once whilst watching him play and thought to myself 'Looks like this bloke is finally going to repay the bombers for the faith we have shown in him' The reality is he has too many large chunks of games where he simply doesn't get near the footy. U watch him play and he'll do a lead, get ignored and thats it!! He doesn't double back and lead twice or three times, he just gives up. Watch how Nick Riewoldt plays, his workrate is phenomenal.

With Lucas and Lloyd already established in the forward line, Sheedy tried Johns down back and it failed because he's too slow and too unfit and simply isn't a backmen. With Ryder, Gumbleton and Neagle coming through the ranks he's just going to get bumped back down the pecking order. Ryder and even Neagle have shown more to me than Johns has. Gumbleton's only had the 1 year so hasn't really had opportunity to prove himself yet especially due to his proneness to injury.

I'd love to see Johns succeed this year and prove me wrong because its second and third tier players like him who's improvement wins you premierships but so far I think he's show nothing, he has a poor workrate, and he'd fit in better somewhere like the doggies

How much did St Kilda pay the AFL for that NAB semi final win, Free kicks were a joke. Once again I wonder if its AFL football were playing or netball with an oval ball.

I think courtneys performance in the last couple of years has been ok, considering the first year he came to essendon he did a major hip injury putting him out for a season. Its only normal for him to start off slow then work his way back yes its taken a couple of seasons but i think its worth it.He was very impressive in the nab cup match against brisbane but luck wasnt in his favour again getting a knock on his hip putting him out for at least 4 weeks therefore i dont think its his performance he need to consider at the end of the year its whether we can take the chance on him playing more games and not doing anymore damage to his hip.cheers

I think alot of you people are forgetting the bloke is still very young. He has an abundance of potential but is still very raw in the afl world. He is the fastest bloke in the team over a 200m stretch. Cant see why you wouldnt use this to his advantage and either play him similar to the way tarrant was used 3 or 4 years ago. starting inside 50m and leading up to the wing. Or play him off half back and get him to run and drive the ball long. Neagle and Gumbleton are both still a couple of decent season off taking over from lloyd and lucas.

Yes he is still very young but he has been at the club a long time now and its time for him to be taking the next step and becoming a permanent part of the senior team... he just isnt doing this. The coaching staff have been so patient waiting for his 'potential' talent but so far we have seen nothing to get excited about.

How you expect a bloke to come straight in and fill the role of lucas and lloyd is beyond me?
Rachelle (Bombers supporter), 24 Feb 2008 15:54hide comment
unfortunately i think time is up for Courtney. Unless he pulls out something special this year iu think he will be asked to move on. With Lloyd, Lucas, Neagle, Gumbleton and both Laycock and Hille in the forward line at times, there doesnt seem much room for Johns.

i think cortney johns needs to show us supporters commitment an dedacation
Chris from Perth (Bombers supporter), 23 Feb 2008 21:36hide comment
I would like to see him play across half forward make him work hard for the footy to see if he has the mental ability to hack it. Given a decent run and with a little confidence I believe he could be a good player. Watched him lead and mark really well over here in perth a couple of yrs ago, he has the ability to play well.

I was actually hoping this'd be the year for Gubleton, Winderlich and Houli.. I mean Johns COULD be OK.. And I think he can kick for goal as accurately as Laycock... But if he doesn't prove himself this year, he better get the arse..

Johns has been given heaps of chances to prove himself and has been disappointing in all instances, he has no clue.

agreed. he should be ploughing away in the vfl, like he will be doing anyway

Someone said earlier make or break for him in 08... coudnt agree more. Good to see them give him one more chance under Knights whom he played alot of footy for in the vfl last year. Those fans who watched him would know he played out of the backline... sources say he will play a similar roll in 08 once the big boys are back in the side down fwd. You gotta remember this blokes come back from a hip replacement hes still very raw. Before he injured his hip he was touted as a Number 1 pick!!!

As for the person sayin we should of kept bradley, do urself a favour, head to your local OPSM get ur eyes tested, once finished there head over to your local afl store and pick up a copy of AFL for dummies. flick to chapter 5 "WHY KEPLER BRADLEY GOT THE BOOT" tear it out cause ill save u the read!!!

HES A FCUCKING *******.

Courtney Johns has bulked up...become fitter...and worked on goal kicking in the off season...lets be realistic here guys, We all love the Bombers...so we have to get behind our players and give them a chance. Give Johns the chance to prove himself this year..after all, the club is bigger than the player right!? Just love the bombers always!

My comment stands about Johns - Essendon does not need mediocre players

Courtney is a great player. He just lacks the confidence of thinking he belongs. He will be fine with experience. Anyone looks like a dud when your forward line consisted of Lloyd, Lucas and Hird

Johns aint a great player... servicable in the big league at best.

Even when Lloyd and lucas are gone in a few years Johns would need to lift so much to be around then to show his talents that you believe he has...

Courtney is a log - can't kick to save himself

Gotta disagree with you there - he can kick and kicks staright from a long way out - however HE DOES NOT get the ball to do this regularily...

Unless he gets the ball lace out - he struggles to get the ball...
