I thought it was a decent game by the Pies. I'm not jumping on the resurection band wagon, but I thought there was some real positives to come out of the match.
Sure Collingwood didn't dominate the match as most would've liked considering Port's lowly position. However, we played decent football all match I thought and when Port challenged we never looked out of control, it really was just a brilliant display by the Ruck/Rover clearance combo.
I thought Chris Dawes settled in. He and Travis Cloke bounce well off each other. Although we know Clokey likes to lead up and will love the opportunity to wind around and go long to another tall in Dawes, I saw Dawes lead up and play a bit of role reversal.
McCarthy, although he made a skill error in the backline looks a very solid contributor with some real class.
Most importantly, the Pies kept their structure through the match. When we get shredded we tend to get bogged down coming out of half back unable to go long quickly due to a loss of foward line structure. I think Dawes has really straighted the team up. I really see this as a good sign that we will be able to turn things around further in the next few weeks and hopefully find some form going into the finals.
