Anthony Rocca
Does anyone feel that Pebbles is on his last chance tomorrow night against Geelong, the way Malthouse has come out on the news tonight, i reckon if he doesn't play well me may see him dropped or even put on long term injury list (like Saints did to gehrig).

I think it would be a shame to see the end for Anthony, I am realy hoping he pulls a big game out and continues good form through the whole season.

Rocca beat the best FB in the game on the weekend, i think that answers the question.

The thing with Rocca, even if he doesn't kick a goal he will still be a valued contributer. He does little things like tap the ball onto the smaller roving players, he can present as an option in a contest and even if he doesn't grab it someone else can still rove the ball. His presence demands respect and if he isn't taken seriously can crush an opposition side. He looks to be in his last years as younger tallent is comming through in the forward line that can keep up better with the pase of the moden game, namely: Sean Rusling and Ben Reid both very fast leading players out of the goal square. Rocca will certainly keep his spot in the senior side this season seeing as Rusling is out injuried and Reid is only in his 2nd season still developing. Though next season don't expect a full season from Rocca, maybe every 2nd week as others will be pushing for a spot.

The value of Rocca is not simply how many possessions & goals he gets himself, but just as importantly, how many contests, opportunities & space he creates for his teammates around him. As long as he's working hard & doing those things, he's worth his place in the side.

The thing that frustrates me more than anything else when we are discussing Rocca is that if on the rare occassion he has a good game (more than 3 goals) then it is guaranteed that he will play **** for the next month or so. So if he doesnt fire then I wont be surprised if Mick drops him like a HOT potatoe.

He hasn't played well for years. It surprises me that Malthouse has kept him around for so long. There are better prospects out there. As much as I love him, it might be time to move on.

I'm not talking about anyone in particular. What I'm saying is that over the past couple of years, while we have put up with his sub standard performance, there have been numerous players slide by in drafts etc. We seem to dream about Rocca one day pulling his finger out, rather than blooding a new forward. Cloke will one day be better than Rocca ever was. There are also a few yongsters at Collingwood who deserve a try. Our forward line worked well a couple of weeks ago without Rocca. It seems tha including him in the side can be to our detriment.

Unless you have a dominant full forward, such as Brown or Franklin, then you may as well not play a big full forward. Let the fast small forwards run riot and see what happens. Didak, Davis, Medhurst. Great to watch.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Rocca hater. I think he's an excellent forward when he's on song. He's just been hot and cold for so long. I don't think we can rely on him.

my thoughts are yes he is slow yes his good and bad games are so far apart it aint funny but as i have always said and as mick has said Pebbles is there to make a contest he cant bloody beat 4 oppents that are crashing into him nobody can so as long as he make a contest and gets the ball to the ground then its up to the small forwards eg didak, thomas meddy and neon to finish it and kick the goals long live the Peb

He is a dud. He is an absolute dud. The Pies shoulda got rid of him when they got rid of Tarrant.
