Where is the loyality chosing a bloody captain that has never even worn our jumper?
I have been a die hard blues supporter since day one. I have them tattooed on my body. I feel physically sick.

Where is the loyality chosing a bloody captain that has never even worn our jumper?

We have great players yet they are over looked ( STEVENS) for a ****in ex Eagle.

I dont care how great he was for the ****in budgies. This is a ****in outrage. And for all you blues supporters that think this is a new beginning and blah blah blah and all the rest, you are not true supporters.

What about our boys that have gone through the crap we have and remained loyal and steadfast. **** this decision. This is ****ing bull****.

its none of my business but i totally agree, what a slap in the face to other good carlton players who've played a few seasons with the blues

As soon as Judd announced he was going to Carlton, a lot of eagles supporters knew it was coming. From my perspective, it is a shame that Judd left, but he's a great player and will be an asset to carlton. He's got many years of good footy left, and he's fantastic to watch in his peak.

I appreciate those who see his potential to influence the club, but I think your coach was right when he said "not to expect miracles". It must be hard to see someone coming from WCE captain the blues, but at the same time, he is from melbourne, is a stellar player and will do good for your club.

As to his ability to pull carlton into the top 8, we will have to wait and see. Although Stevens would have made a good captain, I think Judd may be better in the long term. I think it is better to concentrate on what he can offer the blues, not where he came from.

And just a side comment - love to see the dockers face us in a finals series where the competition matters ;P

Good luck to the blues and hope you get up there for '08.

Thanks Stuart, I know he will be a great asset to carlton, but at the same token, it is so hard to see this player, who is obviously a great player, come in and with not even proving himself to our club, be grasped with wide open arms. I know he is great but i feel so deeply for the boys that have been over looked. I realise this was a club decision, but it still doesnt take away the feeling of absolute despair. I realise that the souls of our club must have voted for him. I guess i just have to suck it up and actually accept it may be a good thing, Honey, only time will tell, I pray it is the right decision...

Well I think its a matter of the "best" decision. Either Stevens or Judd could have done it, but Judds commitment to footy and his pace/training is what makes him such a stellar player. It's probably the better of two good decisions rather than a "right" and "wrong" one. He will do well either way, and I'm sure once your players get some more experience and start to work with him and your senior playing group Carlton will pull themselves from the bottom of the ladder and be a strong influence in the competition once again.

One thing though - I had to chuckle at the "must win" attitude your club has towards the NAB cup - perhaps the same attitude will carry you through to victory where the competition matters?

Whilst I understand your pain Holly, Judd is the best player and most successful captain going around. He is Victorian born and bred. In this day and age of football players change teams all the time, coaches come and go, sponsors change clubs every couple of years.

Nick Stevens was drafted to Carlton after stating he wanted to leave Port and play for Collingwood... At least Judd's first option was the mighty blues. His family are predominately Carlton supporters also.

Here is a slice of Carlton history which I am sure you have celebrated when you remember that we have won the most premierships of any club in the VFL/AFL:-

"Brighton Diggins started his career with South Melbourne and won a premiership with them in just his second season. He then moved to Carlton Football Club at the start of the 1938 season where he immediately became captain-coach and led the Blues to a grand final win."

At Carlton Football Club we have many great years ahead. We have all been through many hard times but hang in there. At least we have a true Carlton coach now (not some one trick wonder from North Melbourne) and a great young side ready to step up and win us another flag.

I remember a few years back in Carlton's history when we were chasing a guy that we had our eye on since he was 14, and refused to play for the Blues till he won a flag for Glenelg...he did that, then came to Carlton, ....others seasoned players/champions were overlooked when he was made captain, and the supporters were all up in arms at the time too! But that decision gave us our greatest captain of all time and a flag in the same year..and he is still there today...The irony is that Kernahan announced Judd's captaincy, will history repeat???

i guess the judd captaincy says a little about what the club thinks of stevens. i think its bull**** to. i like stevens and beleive he would be a better captain. judd leads by example, but stevo uses his voice and can direct the young blokes better. judd captained a wc side with cousins, cox and a team full of talent that didnt need to be captained and told what to do. i think the blues made a mistake

I personally think that the board and coaching staff together with the players are in a much better position to make the decision! It is a great choice. At least he isn't a thug though like your Lloyd - what a leader, the diver who keeps gets suspended - should play soccer.

I do feel for Stevens. What a lot of you dont realise is that he is not best suited for the job. The fact that he returns from the off season well above his playing weight every year is evidence eneogh, what example is that setting for the younger guys. Judd on the other hand has broken Carlton lap times while still in recovery. This guy is an absolute prefesional when it comes to his footy. And I for one am greatful that he feels privelaged to captain the greatest footy club in the country.

I recall a time when Carlton appointed a one year veteran as captain, and later that year he held the premiership cup aloft his head. He also turned out to be our greatest ever leader and the longest serving captain in AFL history.
Time will tell if this was the right decision or not.
