Setanta Bashers
Why are a lot of Carlton supporters on here bashing Setanta? I personally have been rapt with his performance this year. But here are some facts.

Disposal Efficiency 73.86% higher than Murphy, Stevens, Fevola, Judd, Fisher, Betts who are all very good players. (sorry Judds a F***n gun)
1 %ers second to Waite with 60. Has taken on gun forwards and beaten or broken even with Lucas, Brown, Pav. Provides run from the back has a lot more IN50's than Thornton who chips sideways all the time. He has courage and backs into packs. He is starting to take the opponents body in spoiling attempts so has rarely been outmarked one on one. And I beleieve he has improved out of sight. And most importantly he plays with passion, enthusiasm and love for the jumper. Yes you nah sayers might add he has a few clangers but there are alot more culprits than him.

Im a fan of Big Carlos. I think he has become an important player for the blues and ok he is a little RAW but I like his toughness, his height and speed is a handy asset to have. He can even be used as and emergency ruckman at times and would have been very handy against all 3 teams blues have played in recent weeks.

he is just another of our blokes that may not be up to the big league

Anyone know where Setanta is??? Apperently he wanst with the team training today nor has he been with the Bull-Ants???

Setanta doesn't get many contested possessions or clearances, thats why his efficiency is higher than the midfielders you have listed.
He has improved his disposal a lot this year and i like him the most in a key defensive position.

I reckon Setanta is going to be a very good player. I don't think he is at the moment. I think he suffers also from bad luck because it seems that whenever he has a clanger the results are worse than when someone like Thornton does. I hope they keep him on and develop him a bit more

Unfortunately, it is difficult for a lot of fans to change their pre-conceived ideas about a player. It is probably of no coincidence that the same people who criticise Carlos at the games are often the ones bagging Wiggins and Russell. Similarly, even if he can turn it around and use his eight-goal performance against Geelong VFL to become a very handy forward, for example, I'd imagine Cain Ackland would find it impossible to win a lot of fans.

Carlos was clearly on the outer at the start of the year: he was a back-up forward, back and ruckman, but not good enough to warrant selection in any by himself - and that will probably continue, unfortunately for him, because the return of Bower and Walker and the possible emergence of Austin may squeeze him out of the team.

I'm quite a fan of Carlos. He shows good poise with the ball and has good disposal. He is not the best defensively, but he is not the worst defensively either - obviously Cleve Hughes beat him in the second quarter against the Tiges, but as Mal rightfully points out, he was much more effective against Brown and Pavlich than Waite was.

He always tries 100% and loves playing the game. You can see it every time he is out there and especially if he kicks a goal or after a win. I personally don't know any Carlton supporters who bag him.

read past threads. There is a few people who have posted that he should be dumped at the end of the year.

I totaly agree with you. You can tell that he wants to be out there at all costs. He loves to kick a goal and always gives it to his opponent. He gave away a free to Pav before the siren went he was so into it.

I agree with you Mal. He is getting better week by week and it is only a matter of time before he finds his consistent position in the team.

I gotta admit, i like Setanta, i always have and infact i happen to bump into him at a resturant at the start of the year and he is a very cool dude.

When my mate told him that he plays an important role on the field and that he is doing well, you guys should of seeing his face he was so wrapt!

To me that showed that poor guy cops it big time from supporters. I know that sometimes he can get imto peoples nevers espesh when the games are very tight. But like Mal said he really plays with passion and he really gives it to his opponents and we love it!I hope that he is there for many more years and im sure the more he is, the better he will be.

VOTE 1 FOR SETANTA.
