Our defence
What do the rest of you think of our defence this year? Thornton is just about having his best season, Jared got called up for the big `V', Jamison is looking great and Sentata's doing well - and Bryce Gibbs is developing into a tagger/tackler other teams would kill to have???
It looks promising - notice how no one in the media is hanging it on them but they're not getting the kudos they should ....

Our defence has improved remarkably this year. Even with the injuries we have had down back, we have managed to defend well a lot of the time. Can't wait til Walks is back!
Gibbs is learning the defensive side needed in an AFL career - Ratten started his career very much the same way.
The game against the Tigers proved Gibbs is very dangerous as an attacking player also. The versatility of the man is fantastic to have.

Yes, i think he realised his career was on the line especially with the inclusion of Hadley to the squad. He has really taken his opportunity by the balls since he came into the squad against Melbourne in round 5.

There is nothing wrong with our defence. It all stems from the over-simplistic view that Points Against is the best measure of the back six - anybody with any intelligence knows that this is not so. We have depth, and the backs will develop into a very good unit. That being said, I thought it took Ratten a long time to get the match-ups right today, and we missed Bower, who would have been a perfect match-up for Neagle.

Yeah good points also Waite was on Monfries for about 10 minutes and kicked a couple. Thought match up's in middle were a bit suss would have started Benchy in guts not Gibbsy

Bench only played 50% of game time. That is astonishing, particularly given that Judd and Carrazzo were concussed. Surely when you see that we're losing out of the middle and Judd is dazed, Bench is the first guy you call on.

Whats the bet he's in the magoos this week. He seems to be one of those guy's who gets dropped or put on bench for no particular reason. Saw Hackland kicked 8 for Bullants they wouldn't, would they?

They wouldn't play him in the ruck. But we are in need of a forward, so you never know.

wouldnt surpirse me. they will probabaly call on ackland and then he will turn the ball over eight times in the first half and spend the rest of the game on the bench. wouldn't bother me if he didnt play senior footy again. he's not a premiership player. just a dud thrown a life line. oh walker is gonna be back for the saints game. watch that space... he's got everything ackland don't have. brains good decision making and speed.

Unofficially, they only selected Ackland to play against Brisbane because they wanted to protect the two youngsters (Cloke was injured) from Charman, who was viewed to be a dirty player (sorry, "unsociable." That's the word they use, right?) I have no doubt he won't play ruck again. That being said, reports are that he was very impressive at full forward, and had a couple of assists to add to those eight goals. I think they're sensible enough to notice that Hille had eight clearances, and adding Ackland to the centre would give next week's ruckman a similar tally.

Jamo and Bower will be our 1 and 2 defenders in a few years. T-Bird is playing well and Sentanta is playing alot more consistent.

Gibbs will more into the midfield next year. Ratten is doing what Pagan did with Walker. They werent playing up to there potential so they are sent down back were they are forced to play a role and work hard. Then, when they are ready they are let loose and are able to enjoy the freedom. It worked on Walker and it will work on Gibbs.
