Jamison will take the strong leading forward Waite will take the CHF Setanta will take the second tall forward Bannister will take the smaller forward Thornton's versatility will allow him to take any of the above types, however not as effectively as the other blokes. Allowed to dominate against the #4 or #5 forward, this will make him into an Ang Christou type. Scotland will play a loose role.

good call tarrant, jamison needs a bit of leadership and consistant encouragement from the captain and coach to make sure he doesn't vary in how ge handles himself week in, week out. good last week see how he handles buddy franklin this week. hope ur right though..

Waite looked prety good at CHB against Port today. We desperatly need a full back. Thornton just can't do it.

scotland is the man to keep it all together back there. while we've got him back there he'll keep it all together. thornton and o'halipan will be alot better this year. but really, who cares about the back line when we've got the likes of nick stevens, chris judd, marc murphy, kade simpson, bryce gibbs, carrazzo kicking it to the one and only man who will kick a 100 goals this year, mr brendan fevola.

It doesn't matter who we have in the midfield and forward line if we have an absolutely **** backline as has been the case for the last 6 years. Carlton can't continue on with having over 100 points kicked against them every week. Every Premiership team for who knows how long has had an extremely solid, if not champion backline so you can't possibly say it isn't important, even with the sick midfield we have this year. Finally, Scotland is not a key backman and pretty ****in slow in the legs despite his great football brain and skills. He is very important back there but what we need are key defenders! That's who we should recruit next year.

thats why i asked the wuestion big guns. everyone is hung up on judd and our midfeild, yeah sure we will see some good play this year. but like most years glimpses of weakness cause the ball is getting through the post at the other end too easy. recruit more defenders and we might have a shot at the trophy in 2010!

It looks like Jarrad will be CHB, hopefully Santy can hold down FB and then as Ratts said CHF is up for grabs.

would you agree that our hbflankers are gonna hold a big posie in how we go this year? if we get scotland and walker kicking goals from the hbflank! if this happens we can tell people by round 12 now this is how we roll in 2008! stick it in your pipe and smoke it.

i think we'll all agree that the boys had it 'going on' back in 95'. but now we gotta face the facts. can the young guns be un-fazed by the pressure of preforming at the big time. if they can consistant wins would be nice for once. can you remember the last time we won five season games in a row?

With the super midfield we have this season, it will stop atleast 50% of the time the ball will make it to our back line. With less pressure on the back lline they shouldnt have a problem. But we still need some big names in the backline. We need to build up a impressive backline, maybe try and recruit some big names to the side in this years trades. just my opinion...

good point jimbo, if ya look at the elite six topic you'll notice alex put jamieson in the back line. he could be the big name we need. bit hard to find a silvagni floating about these days but the big j, waite, thornton and a few running backs wont go astray.

Where is your confidence peoples? We can play like Brazil in the soccer and no matter how much they score we'll score more! Can't agree more with steve's comment though. stronger midfield means less pressure on the backline giving the young blokes every chance to develop and play 1 on 1 footy.

ive got confidence alex, actually the most excited ive been about footy in like ten years. just trying to get the point across that were not untouchable yet. still got a bit of work to do. and yes what steve said the pressure will be off the backline cause of a strong midfeild. the pressure will be on in other areas now that every carlton supporter in australia expects them to totally dominate now weve have an absolute gun midfield. i hope we do smash em up this year. but its gonna be full on with still such a young mob on the feild.
Steve (Blues supporter), 20 Jan 2008 20:13hide comment
With a quicker and stronger midfield the pressure on the defense will be reduced and the entries will be reduced giving our backs every opportunity to beat their man. We are a couple of years away form a very solid defense though.

patience. we wont be a force for a year or 2 yet which should give us time to sort out a defence. Bowyer will be tank (half mauri, italian i know some of his family) if we can develop 1 or 2 more over 190cm with runners like walker etc it could be enough

glad you have faith in bowyer, cause he's gotta play alot smarter footy from what i saw last year. to his credit he is only just getting a feel for it andf once he has a bit more play under his belt he should turn into a jet who slows down and thinks before he kicks, it would be nice to think we would be a force this year. but im a bit scared everyone is getting ahead of themselves. sure , having judd will make a difference, (over time) he is a jet i just hope his ability to read the play and make great on feild decisions rubbs off on all the other guys.

Interesting that Jake Edwards is still on the list. Big unit. Jamieson and Hartlett came on last year. Thornton obviously< setanta and his younger taller faster brother!Saddington needs to give something or he is done.... Dont forget, Steve hs 3 boys! Jo Silvagni should get life membership!

agree'd, i think its funny that paul bowden is still on the list aswell. im hoping the kid proves me wrong next year. cause i watched him agianst the pies, uselessly kick the ball to straight to them on five occasions. three goals were scored on his behalf. guts but no brains. i agree bout jo, she does deserve a life membership. saddington inconsistant. edwards pulls his finger out we might be right.

it is almost bazaar because we have an over abundance of mid-fielders. seven great midfielders and no real size or presence in the backline. maybe we need to convert andrew walker and bryce gibbs into a couple of runner back flanks...? what you think. put waite at centre half back. o'hailpin will make a good full back (stronger and more alert this year.)
