Who's going to stop Johnathon Brown
Another win for the Blues against Brisbane, sound great. Seems to me that there could be one man standing in our way....Johnathon Brown. The blues already having a weakened back line, I find myself wondering whos going to stand up and take on the big man and shut him down.
Any ideas...?

If Brown plays in the tribute match. He passed a fitness test on Thursday he will be right to line up against the Blues (bar an incident tonight)

jamison is underated and will shut down either one (bradshaw or brown.) and i think ratten has been putting a bit more faith in bower as a backman, he could quite possibly have the job on the other. his confidence is growing every week this year. could be his first big win. if those two stand tall for the next month without thornton. look out for the end of the year with walker coming back in on the back flank wing... steven browne looks the real deal. could be the next big thing for us..

jamison UNDERrated? are you ****ting me? hes the most overrated player ive seen in a long time, still gets a game every week but cant manage to keep the ball in his hands for two seconds, on the subject at hand though Waite will definantly get the job on Brown as we dont really have any other big backmen that would be able to match up with him, how do you think Clokey would do on him? (i ask because im not really sure what position he plays now that Kruezer is rucking)

Jamison isn't in his position to get lots of possessions. He is a stopper and he is getting better week by week. His speed and reach make him a great match up on most forwards in the league. He has an ability to get a fist on the ball without giving away a free so it comes to the ground for our smaller players to run it out of our backline.

I think it is a little harsh to call him over rated when he is a 20 year old kid who is giving his all. In most teams he would take the third or fourth best forward, not the main goalscorer. A lack of depth in our backline has him playing on opponents a class above his current ability. It is much the same as Thornton has put up with through the last couple of years.

Waite is definitely our number one defender. He is at his best on the half forward line so he can turn his defence into attack more effectively. It will be great to see how well he plays on Brown, a big test for the young fella!

Cloke would get smashed - plus he's still the #1 ruckman and performing better than Kreuzer in that respect, so there's no chance of that.

I hear Cloke is injured... two weeks till he is back.

Also I think, with the confidence of our younger guns growing with every win, especailly the likes of Gibbs in the centre, were passing the ball more thoughtfully and delivery of the ball into the forward 50 seems to be much more concise.
I think the game will be won out of the centre, with Juddy and Stevens directing flow and shutting down play to Brisbanes forward line.
Its an exiting feeling, finally being able to chat about the way the Blues can continue winning....feels like the Carton of old are comming back to life. I love it.
Go the Blues

The first defensive match-up is always obvious: give Jamison the best leading forward, which I believe is Bradshaw. Brown goes all over the ground, so you'd want Waite on him, most likely.

Not having Thornton available is always uncomfortable. It was okay against the Eagles because they have no forward-line, but his absence will be felt in the coming rounds.

Chris from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 8 May 2008 19:23 hide comment
I think Jarrod Waite will line up on Brown, and the blues may somehow have to free up Jamo or Hadley as a loose man. I think Bradshaw is in better form so they may have no other choice but to put O'hailpin on Bradshaw or on Browny. Go blues. With or without injuries.
Aaron from Perth (Blues supporter), 7 May 2008 13:46 hide comment
I think Bradshaw is more of a worry. That man is on fire. The best way to stop them though is to starve them of the ball. The game against Collingwood proved we can play and old school possession style game. I think that game style needs to come out

I think thats why we also dominated the first half at Subi last week, most of the half was spent by eagles players chasing us down, but we made them fight for posession, I think we need to do that again, but Aaron makes a good point about Bradshaw, don't think we've got anyone who can give him a serious run for his money.
Steve from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 7 May 2008 16:40 hide comment
Good question Justin. This year the pressure has been lifted off our backline simply due to our much more talented and aggressive midfield. I don't think we have the defenders to dominate their forwards, but if our mid field fires it will make for a much easier task to get on top of their forwards.
Adrian from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 7 May 2008 16:06 hide comment
Waite will get the job. He has got the number one defender every weak since he killed Rocca. Hes got the athetisism to match Brown and if our midfield put pressure on their we can force them to kick while into 50 that will help out our defence alot.

Jamison will probably get Bradshaw but id rather see Bower get him. I feal that Bower needs to get important roles every week rather than playing loose or off a man. He did it against Cloke and he did an amazing job. Free up Jamison on the third option and he will always win.

Waites an absolute gun, he and Fischer have been great pick ups, tall, fast and uncomprimising.
