Adam Bentick
A discussion essentially following on from the Essendon-game discussion about our midfield pressure.

Bentick is pretty much our best in-and-under player. He's tearing it up in the VFL at the moment. But, he's slow, and in a team where we're already struggling to put pressure on in the midfield, this is a serious problem - in fact, I'd wager it's the reason why he's not in the team. I also remember a couple of times last year where Bench and Blackwell played the same game, and there was clearly no place for the two slow in-and-under midfielders.

So, do you think Benchy has a long-term place in the team?

Another lazy eleven tackles to Bench...

I really enjoy watching him. He's so team conscious, and he always does the right thing (execution can be a problem though).

Hadley is of more use. Benchy is only there for depth unfortunately. Russell isn't a dud.

Im a fan of Bentick but i think hes done. Last year he lead the league in tackles but didnt get enough ball to be dangerous. We dont realy need to many in and under players anymore with Judd, Murph and Hadley all covering that role.

Im an even bigger fan of Blackwell and i think he has alot more natural talent than Bentick and he tries hard. Get ride of Russell for Blackwell in the starting 22 if you ask me. Russells a dud.

I totally agree with you Tarrant, Bentick has the fire and aggression this team needs. I don't believe he is that slow he has the ability to win the ball in close and pace is not required to do this he uses his body like a battle ram. He takes out and hurts opposition players in close. He would be in my team every week. This current aerobic style of game looks great if you are a top skillful side. The Blues need Bentick to win the ball late in the quarters and when a clearance needs to be won. I hope we keep him. Unfortunately I reckon Blackwell who has more skill then Bentick days are numbered at Carlton.

I only realised this today during the Pies game, but Hadley playing the same role is probably a big reason why Bentick isn't in the seniors.

i agree with both comments.. I would have him interchanging of bench for late in the quarters.. he's a real goer.. i also reckon you can look slow in a non -winning side with no confidence,,,, We made collingwood look slow yesterday.. GO BLUES GO !!
