Neil Craig and injuries
I think that's kind of a broad generalisation. The point about body contact is fair enough but I don't know of a club that doesn't include that in training BUT getting hit at training every week will not minimise soft tissue injuries. I think you need to be a little more specific in what you are looking for. Contusion/bruising/'corkies' etc are impact soft tissue injuries - you get hurt if you get kneed in the quad regardless of if you have body contact training - maybe even more so because of it. If you're looking at the mucle strains etc that could be technique, maybe over stretching with excessive muscle length or even an over stretch on a tight or shortened muscle, maybe even the way the body has reacted to an unexpected action (it hasn't been able to brace and protect). Most footballers play with a couple of miles of tape protecting joints so there's not much more you can do to protect them other than maybe concentrate on landing techniques like with the tumbling work they are doing with gymnasts. If you protect one joint too much then the next in line is just as likely to go anyway as it will be the new weakest point.

The other thing to look at is that the major injuries have been to our taller, thinner players of late (ie ruckman) which just support physics (ie principals of torque - a longer leaver arm requires less force to get movt - or in our case injury)

The other week to week stuff is hard to blanket a cause for as I've mentioned above - it would all be dependent on situation, body type and injury history (ie scar tissue isnt as extensible as muscle so you are more likely to re tear a hammy that has been torn before).

The up shot is - think carefully before you make uneducated, blanket comments. Fitness is fitness - you just add in the components relevant to your particular sport

I read with interest Ricciuto's comments in his recent autobiography in which he basically admitted that the team was leg weary against the Eagles in 2006 where we were smashed in Perth by over 80 points.

Unfortunately, he did not elaborate on why exactly they were weary (or maybe he did and I can't remember). But the point is, that perhaps Craig really did stuff up in 2006 by overtraining the team.

We were flying at the top of the table before the match with the Eagles where everything just fell apart.
