The Crows forward line
IMO our forward line will be deceptively good. McGregor is fantastic when in form, Burton can be great. Also, I think Sellar has been fantastic so far and potentially could be revelation this year. Throw in the likes of McLeod and Goodwin, and I agree with you David.

Hudson and Welsh will be shut down easily in Rnd 1 because we know their skills, they dont have anything new, Edwards should go in as RR or just R so then we have his skill in there, but there will always be Goody and Macca as emergencies for the central work but I honestly think they should give the Porp a run down back and bring Johncock in the centre for try, he's fast with great skills, he will be a superstar in the centre of the ground, same as Stevo he would be better used alongside of Thomo cause they are both great runners and goal kickers, watch out for Stevo picking up a gear this year too!

John the talk for the past few years of stiffy playing in the middle but we are yet to see it!!! i am also keen to see how he would go. i really would like to see macca & goody on half forward flanks but im not confident with the likes in midfield of knights, reilly, douglas. Craig has to decide whether to keep the young kids in there or go back to what he knows works!!! unfortunately crows supporters dont like to see us fail but i think give the young kids this year to develop in the roles. within next 2 years we wont have macca, goody, burton & basset. NOWS THE TIME,IN FACT SHOULD HAVE DONE IT LAST YEAR!!!

McLeod, Goodwin and Edwards are not gonna fit in the forward line for a start.

With Hentschel and Gill to return, the arrival of Tippett, Burton, Jericho, the crumbing Douglas and guys like Sellar, McGregor you only have 6 forwards and this gives you 6 plus 2 reserves so they should stick with macca on the half back line not the forward or centre where he played so well last year

Alternate between Goodwin and Edwards in the forward line and centre where they are still needed as I feel the midfield is still a year away from coping w/o the highly rated trio.

I feel as though the midfield will still require the experience of Goody, Macca and Zoom Zoom. It's just whether or not we can hold under the pressure of the likes of West Coast, Geelong etc.

So like all of us crows people i am looking forward to what structure Craigy chooses. Whether he sticks with it and whether or not the off season choices that seem so foolish will come back to bite them. Wont have to wait long with hudson and welsh in rd 1.

I actually dont know what happened, so can somebody explain to me where Hudson and Bode went? I know Welsh is at the Bulldogs and Marty's at Swanland but what of the other two? Oh and I have been thinking, just querying who thinks Burton could go down back or on the wing, cause I really dont like his consistant in-accuracy in front of the sticks

I believe we will finish in the top 6 this year with the great forward line and fast game plan
John from Ballarat (Crows supporter), 12 Mar 2008 18:38hide comment
Bill, I definitely agree with you. Those jumpers are soooo expensive and if I ever see one get disgarded I'll be taking it even if it is another teams so I can try and trade it for a Crows Jumper.

And 2, Bill, Porplyzia is a going to be a great player in a couple of years, he is averaging the most possesions for the Crows at the moment and we need that with maybe only 2 or 3 years left with Mcleod and Thomson.

How come everyone wants our best midfielders in the forward line? Mcleod, Goodwin and Edwards, they are fast evasive and courageous. They are still needed as followers and keep Porp in the Centre so then we have a great midfield.

With say Edwards on one wing and Van Berlo on the other, we can stick Knight on a half forward flank or back flank where Van Berlo usually stick and have Sellar at CHF and McGregor in the other forward flank, then have Tippet at FF.

The FP's can be tossed around a bit. We got plenty of young guys to go in there. Jericho, Douglas and many others, but don't forget we are still awaiting the return of Gill and Hentschel. They'll eliminate some of your forward worries too.

You see, by sticking Douglas or even the Porp up forward it makes way for our older midfielders to go in there later in the games for a break without having to take them off!!!

Tippet, Sellar look the goods with a bit more refining and work. Otherwise, what you say about the "old boys" is certainly true. At the end of that sad elimination final last year there were people who threw their Crows jumper over the fence, and another who discarded a scarfe. I believe that back in Adelaide there was much criticism of Craig. I guess some questions were ask3ed over some of the horse trading in the off season, too. Hudson???? Now, after a great start to 2008, the so-called experts are talking us up. Who knows. February champions are two a penny. Still, I am begining to feel that Craig really does know where we are headed!! Lets all be right behind him and the boys. Go Crows!!!!!

Sorry, but I'm an English teacher, and always on duty, like Inspector Gadget. It's the "number" of goals, David, not the "amount".

Did you pick up the discarded jumper? They aren't cheap! Craig wanted to keep Hudson, but under the coach's criteria, not the player's. I think also there may have been some 'attitude/behavioural' issues with both Huddo, and Welsh (leading goal kicker last year?)
I'm actually pretty supportive of turning players over who won't play under the coach's requirements.
Small forwards? How many is too many? Porpleyzia (I know this is wrong, but can't be bothered looking it up) is too slow to play in the mid-field by my reckoning. He was burnt off a couple of times against the Hawks.
Hope my grammar is passable.

The jumper was thrown on the field!! I was pretty appalled (sp?) I agree with all you say. I didn't know that about Huddo, only that he seemed to be the man who cou;ls have rucked us to victory in that very final. By and large I agree about letting people go if they want to. I am still enough of a little boy from Adelaide that I can't uynderstand why anyone would want to leave!! Welsh, well, probably about time. I bet both those worthies play blinders in the first match of the season.

Of course, we didn't really expect Rhet B to break down again, did we? That was very disappointing. I really liked his style. Porplyzia... I have a lot of time for him, too. He does look the goods.

Is it not odd that for several years now the so-called experts have expected pour bubble to burst, but we keep on keeping on? Lets hope that continues. As a Norwood supporter of over 50 years standing, I have never had one of those teams which just keeps on being among the top half. Lets hope the boys can do that in 2008, starting with a nice little piece of silver on Saturday night.

Sorry about the grammar dig. None of my business, really.

crows will go well if the oldies and the youngsters gel early on, otherwise it could be a disjointed season with some good games and some bad. Andy Mcleod looks in good nick from what I've seen so that's a good start.
Jason from Melbourne (Crows supporter), 27 Feb 2008 7:51hide comment
Will be interesting to see if Craig continues with playing all our veteran stars up forward during the regular season.

Or whether this is just something he's experimenting with during the pre-season to allow more of the younger players a run through the midfield.
