What did everyone think of the All Australian Team?

Mackie was the one guy that I didn't believe deserved to be in the 40-man squad. Fisher is a much better defensive defender than Mackie, and has better disposal than Mackie. It's fairly traditional to give the Coleman medallist the FF position (unless he is a CHF) and the other top full-forwards the FP positions. With more goals than anyone else in the past 10 years (bar Franklin), it's pretty much impossible to leave Fev out, so if Franklin takes FF by winning the Coleman, FP is pretty much automatic for Fev. Selwood has to attract a tagger and continue to do what he has been doing. It's not as tough for him when Ablett and Bartel and others attract the top tags. Wait a couple of years and he'll be in there.

Tarrant Yes i would have Fev in my team but not in the pocket i'd have him CHF as Riewolt only had a good last half of the year but the selectors love him so he's always gunna make the team, you make a fair point on Mackie and Selwood

You couldn't validate Fev as a CHF, because he just doesn't play there. I agree with you on Riewoldt, though, and I think Brown may be a valid replacement for him.

I like Mackie but Fisher has to play on some big names in a back line that has only 2 real defensive stars, himself and Maxie H.

joel selwood is a gun , but they cant always fill it with geelong all the time and with that they still have better players than selwood at times who have better games then him while vsin different teams thats y, wait til nxt couple of years joel selwood in there

Cats on a downhill slide? I don't think you could say that about a side that has broken countless records this year notably in disposals. And our season this year has been an improvment from last, i just think the AFL is abundant in top quality players that just can't be overlooked. I'm reasonably happy with this years A.A team... a few queries though: Fisher- Enright or maybe even Mackie deserved that spot in stead of Enright getting bench
Reivoldt- him on the bench & Richo on Medhurst- thought he shouldve made it to the bench & in his pos Brown or Pav and Sam Mitchell would've been in my A.A if I were to pick it too Other than that fairly happy.

I was only joking about the Cats on the downhill slide Danielle lol. Richo was nominated in the midfield group because he's been playing mainly on the wing so he couldnt have been in the forward line. I was surprised Milburn didnt get in, he's had a great year.

no motlop doesnt, his whole year wasnt really that good only a few top games and his 8 goal to go into the dream team was just pure fluke and it was choko who chose him so he deservd to not get picked

Wow you obviously dont like him. He had a great year, and to say that one game was a fluke is stupid. And to do what he did with a mid field and forward line that did not function well all year makes his efforts even better.

i wasn't satisfied and before you rave on about the whole "one-eye" thing hear me out. Sandilands - hell no morris starting - no bench maybe where was milburn? riewoldt over pav? i don't rate that either..... pav has virtually nothing to work with, yet when freo played the cats he almost took the cats apart single handedly, while nick gets the delivery from some of the classiest foots in the game - dal santo and hayes. I would have had judd on the bench and cooney as well (if at all) my friend and i have noticed an interesting fact in league and AFL, for rep teams and honourary teams the selection committee often greatly favour last year's premiership players, even if this year they are not the best this year ... having said that, it's not necessarily greatly applicable this year because geelong remains the best

Sandilands is a dominate ruckmen, trouble is he doesnt have the midfield around him to really show just how good he is.

nah no way! just getting a tap is nothing! apart from pav the only good thing about freo was their midfield! How talented is Palmer? (well rising star so.....) and how experienced is Bell!? if sandilands can't get clearances out of them there are few midfields he could get clearances out of! plus cox is the man at getting clearances and when kerr is not there he basically has a C list midfield!!! i won't accept that sandilands should have been there!

thought steve johnson starting on the ground was a bit of a suprse but apart from that was ok.
Jodie from Melbourne (Cats supporter), 16 Sep 2008 10:20hide comment
Few surprises, would have had Fisher on the bench, Enright on the ground. Harvey still bemuses me how he was selected as a forward, but I suppose if he was nominated as a midfielder he wouldn't have made the team. Think small forwards got screwed this year, the forwards look very tall for me.
