Congratulations Collingwood on a good year, Better luck next year!!!
Tonight's game against the Saints was probably a good indication of where the team is at. Tonight we lacked a tall marking forward and also a tall backman in which hopefully the Pies can look to build on over the pre-season. Collingwood struggled to put any score board pressure on tonight, 9.18.72 simply wont win games in finals. Credit goes to the Saints who consolidated their chances and hopefully they can go on and win the premiership for Robert Harvey, true champion of the game, but will have to face potentially2 extremely tough assignments in Hawthorn and Geelong.

I thought the Magpies lack of a quality one-on-one defender did, once again, become very apparent. I believe Fev and Franklin each kicked about 15 goals in two games against the Magpies, and Riewoldt was similarly damaging last night.

But the game was basically won by either St Kilda's strength in defence, or Collingwood's weakness at half-forward (it's impossible to tell from watching on TV), because the relative accuracies of the scorelines were an accurate representation of the quality of shot - St Kilda attacked quickly from a lot of rebounds, and was able to get shots from clost range and good angle, while the Magpies were forced to take a lot of their shots from very wide or very long, or bomb the ball to the square whence it was rushed, which is a testament to the Saints defence. And if they can force Franklin to take all his shots from a bad a position as the Magpies took most of theirs, then he will kick something like 1.15 and the Saints will have a chance.

Good on the pies for honouring harvs, especially after a loss. They didn't lack heart, cos they beat us in the hard ball count. Their innaccuracy and ball use hurt them most.

Watching the game last night I will tell you what your team lacked. It wasnt a tall defender or marking forward.

The Pies had no HEART! When the game was there to be won the Saints gave it everything.

They tackled hard, they were first to the footy and they were disiplined. They didnt just bomb the ball into the forward line, there entries into the forward 50 is the reason they were so accurate in front of goal

no heart? jesus they shouldnt let just anyone post on here.
Kids make mistakes Scott, look how crap Geelong were a while back and now look at them. They have played 100 games plus together and now are a fantastic side. Collingwood have 6 kids playing with 14 games or less of experience against a near full strength St Kilda outfit. They got smashed and yes it was dissapointing and our decison making was **** but u can never say Collingwood had no heart. Thats the most stupid thing i have ever read on here.

If Collingwood want to reach the top, the club and the supporters need to make an honest assesment of the teams performance. Geelong went through a stage where they were making excuses about being a young side etc etc.

Last night St Kilda were more determined, harder at the footy and more disciplined than Collingwood.

You can put some of that down to experience, but to me that adds up to
St Kilda having more heart than Collingwood.

The Pies gave up when St Kilda clicked up and gear. They didnt want to win cause they dont have to, because they have a million excuses why they couldnt win.

A loss is a loss, just making the finals is not a Premiership Win and beating the reining Premiers in Round 9 is defiantly not a Premiership Win!

Scott, seriously dude stop talking. Don't question the heart of my club when they have a side full of boys. You can talk tough because your Cats are men, been gelled together for years now. I think you were very relieved when we lost last night because you were terrified we were going to smash you again, don't say you weren't because I bet it was in the back of your mind. Keep your opinions about my club to yourself, you disrespect us and slam us for no real reason. When our boys have had as many years together as your Cats have then we'll come talking.
Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 14 Sep 2008 16:50hide comment
of course we are making a honest assesment, we got further then we should have this season with the squad that has played most of the year.
Kids give u inconsistent results, doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
The fact u said the Pies gave up is ridiculous. The Saints were better and used the ball better and converted their chances. Collingwood still got the ball into their 50m more then St Kilda and had more scoring shots so that would say they didnt give up would it otherwise they wouldnt have been ahead in those areas.
Of course a loss is a loss but in reflection we are dissapointed but being realistic we have done alright considering what the club has dealt with this season with injury and off-field issues. You cant be satisfied with it and have to push for a top 4 spot next season barring no injuries.

LOL... A ridiculous comment there scott, a bunch of kids with no heart... It wasn't heart it was accuracy in both there disposals and kicking of goal... These kids cracked under pressure and im still a proud supporter cause there the pies future...

No heart is honestly a stupid call... :-(

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 14 Sep 2008 10:01hide comment
accuracy was part of it to.... wat we kick 14 goals 3 or something.... since wen do we kick straight?!?.

and yeah i agree. it was a nice change to see us hungry for the footy.
robert harvey set up the first 3 goals with pin point passes, i think that started the trend for the night.

good luck against the doggies although i hope u lose... if we beat the hawks this sat nite itll make it just a bit easier

I cannot see with my one eye any other club besides Essendon who came even close to what Collingwood had to deal with thru injuries and off field stuff. To achieve an interstate finals win without your captain and with the youngest average age since 2000 speaks volumes for the future. To have 6 or so of your top 10 out hmmm thats life.

Congrats to all involved in getting the best out of the players involved. I think we are in the Top 4 in the AFL, what I saw last night hasn't changed my opinion.

Andrew from Gold Coast (Magpies supporter), 14 Sep 2008 18:42hide comment
And when a team stays on the ground to appreciate a champion like Robert Harvey you cant tell me that's not Heart, Everyone wrote us of when didak and shaw were suspended and we won 4 of the last 6 games it takes Heart to do that mate. To be 24 points down against Adelaide and come back and win by 31 points takes heart your wrong think about your comments before you write them.
Andrew from Gold Coast (Magpies supporter), 14 Sep 2008 18:37hide comment
Scott your an Idiot I like Geelong but I dont like it when you supporters start bagging Collingwood, you should focus on your own team and not worry about us. I guess when Collingwood were 10 goals up in round nine Geelong just gave up as well.
John from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 14 Sep 2008 18:32, Last Reply: 14 Sep 2008 18:34 hide comment
Yeah but Collingwood did have a number of players out - Didak, Shaw, Burns, Rocca... They had young blokes out on the field and standing up to the finals pressure was done very well. To get this far for what they've gone through is top stuff. Good on 'em too for making a guard of honor for Harvs - shows respect and a massive sense of sportsmanship from the pies.

i would just like to congratulate collingwood for showing harvs the respect he deserves.... to be knocked out of a semi final then stay on the field to give harvs a gaurd of honour off the ground took heart in itself. well done on a decent season collingwood, you have a team with young players that will take you forward in the future....
Andrew from Gold Coast (Magpies supporter), 14 Sep 2008 13:31hide comment
Scott, so everytime someone loses a game of footy they have no heart, what was last nights game different to any other game they have lost this year.
Kristy from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 14 Sep 2008 10:14hide comment
It just wasn't the Pies night last night was it? The delivery into the forward line was the worst I've seen all year from them. But I do think they did a fantastic job under the circumstances to make it as far as they did and to have been a cog in the chain of Vic teams to wipe out an interstate side during the finals, KUDOS to them.

And how can you hate a side that lines up arm in arm for the Aust Anthem and then Gives Harves a guard of honour at the end. And in amongst all the stuff they have had to deal with this year they stood firmly to their guns and kept Shaw and Didak sidelined.

But from what I've seen so far this year I'll have to agree with Scott in that it's not always the tallest defenders and forwards that win teams games. So much relies on the delivery to the forwards, (and of course the accuracy of the player in front of goals) the Saints had it down pat last night one of the most accurate scores of all time. And look at the form of Dal and Harves last night. In fact the whole team of 21, (they lost Allen very early so they only had 3 on the bench all night) played with a purpose, their leaders took charge and the rest complied. The Doggies did the same the other night, we dont really have a tall forward yet we are the second highest scoring side this year, no surprises who is first, and Geelong are in a similar boat they dont really have the tallest forwards, but like us they average 10 individ goal scorers every week.
