stupid AFL
i heard that there is only 16 thosand tickets sold for the north melbourne vs sydney final that is f*ck all for a finals game! NSW could not give a dam about AFL so why is the AFL going to put another team up there, north sydney! Why dont they put a AFL team down in tassie where people are going to turn up and watch games! what do you think?

chris my good friend. the poor crowd at sydney had a numbers of reasons. it rained for three days straight in sydney. north melbourne supporter base is 36 people. it was freezing cold and they should have played at the scg. people really need to get over this crowd crap. yes sydney people are very fickle. but that is the first time they have had poor finals crowd since i can remenber. give it a rest roos supporters

Oi!

No Kangaroos supporter has the right to complain about ANY AFL policy. If you and your ilk had done what was best for the competition (after the AFL had given you so much support for so long) and ultimately your club, there would be room in an 18 team comp for Tasmania.

If you lot had packed your bags and gone to the Gold Coast there'd still be a new franchise in Sydney and another available for Tassie, so DONT YOU F***ING DARE SAY IT'S THE AFL'S FAULT THAT TASMANIA DOESN"T HAVE A TEAM.

IT'S BECAUSE OF THE F***ING KANGAROOS THAT TASSIE WON'T GET A SIDE UNTIL SOME OTHER VICTORIAN CLUB FOLDS

I Know they're always going to put a new team in Sydney - that's irrelevant to how your team's screwed the fortunes of some of the other AFL sides in Melbourne as well as denied Tassie an opening into the league

I'd probably start by looking at the facts.

The first fact is that Melbourne can't support 9 sides. At least 4 of those sides (almost half of Melbourne's clubs) are struggling through prolonged financial problems. There isn't enough public support for most of those teams to stay alive. Which means the AFL has to throw a lot of it's money at these struggling clubs to try keep them afloat. Obviously the AFL is going to have to help out the new teams to come into the competition, which is understandable. But for clubs which have been around for as long as the Bulldogs and Melbourne to still be needing the AFL's assistance is terrible.

I would suggest that any club with a small supporter base and a questionable ability to bring fans to their games, with a sub-standard home base/training facility who is no more than a drain on the AFL's resources should consider moving or merging.

As a fan of the sport I think that the money the afl spends on keeping some of these AFL teams alive should be spent on developing and nurturing the game's growth all over the country. Some AFL clubs have the resources to look after themselves and keep growing without leeching of the AFL. And those who can't should have a good hard look at themselves.

how long has melbourne had 9 or more teams for?
when fitzroy had to fold and merge with the bears the afl lost a lot of support. fitzroy use to be one of melbournes best and most succesful clubs. althoguh it hadnt had much success recently...

so ur soloution is pretty much merge teams until we get a competition of clubs like collingwood?.

they arnt making a north sydney they are making a WEST sydney.

I really feel for the Tassies, they dont have alot going for them down there and a footy team would mean a massive economic boom for the state.

Get out and buy the Believe bar and message your name to support them!!!

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 6 Sep 2008 14:41hide comment
its up to 20,000.
