I love him! I reakon he's great for the game as well as a great player. He has been in some really good form this season.
Linden from Glenorchy (Hawks supporter), 27 Aug 2008 5:38hide comment
Richo still has plenty left in the tank (no pun intended) but should have been traded 6 years ago when the tigers could have gotten some real value out of him!

I think Richo is actually useless. Yeah he's a good overhead mark, and kicks the occasuinal goal, but thats it. He's way past his peak and needs to let AFL go, sorry richo but face the facts.

Have you watched a Richmond game this year or what? Has had a better season than both Brown and Bradshaw.

Richo,

Had he played his junior footy in Victoria, South Australia or WA he might have been an even better player.

However his kicking I won't remember in 10 or 20 years time.
What I will remember is a tigers supporter playing his heart out just as all supporters wish they could. Richo bleeds yellow and black and will rightly remember as a Tiger's great.

Matthew Richardson has kicked more goals on the MCG than any other player in the history of the game. Gotta be happy with that.

Richo was playing seniors for Devonport at 15, and the TFL was very strong back then with the likes of rhys-jones and grinter running around.

Isn't his goal-kicking around 64-65%? A lot higher than most people think..

Richo's goal kicking has improved significantly in the last few years and his accuracy has gone up.
As for him playing seniors in the TFL running around with has beens, well its been reported many times that his poor kicking is a result of poor coaching as a junior. Yes he might have played extremely well but no senior coach would have pulled him a side and said mate your kicking needs work when he is getting BOG or 2nd BOG in a poor competition.
The TFL hasn't been strong for a couple of decades, Qld now produces more draftees and they aren't even a football state.

You obviously know sweet FA about the TFL. A joke now, but was far from it in the 80's and 90's. Don't bother passing judgement about things you're clueless about, makes you look a bit silly.

Richo debuted in what year?? By the time he did the TFL was a great comp on its last legs. Granted the 80's was the last decade it was strong.

Not totally sure, but i'd guess 1993 was his first year. It was still very strong in the early 90's when Mark Yeates took North Hobart to a couple of grand finals in a row.

I guess our opinions on strong are very different.

At least we don't disagree that the TFL was once a strong competition. Maybe it will be for the best that there won't be a side in the VFL next year.

At least Richo got to play one game for Tassie. Probably one of the hightlights of his career.

Your knowledge of the league obviously isn't strong, since it wasn't til about '96 that the league's quality fell into a rapid decline. Until that stage it was easily better than the QAFL and NSW leagues. Now, sadly...
Tarrant from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 26 Aug 2008 10:46, Last Reply: 26 Aug 2008 18:38 hide comment
I think most people are wrong about Richardson. They either think he is a hack, or they think he is some sort of legend who has suffered only by being in a weak team. I believe he is neither - he's just a good-to-great player, and I personally wouldn't put him in the hall of fame.

The reason is simple: the argument that he suffered in a weak team doesn't really count for much if you don't dominate the B&F in that team. Kevin Murray won nine B&Fs with Fitzroy; Richardson has won only one with Richmond, and it was in a wooden spoon year (although he will probably add to that this year). Being the leading goalkicker at Richmond 13 years in a row means absolutely nothing, other than that he was their full-forward thirteen years in a row, and never missed a whole season through injury.

Richo is a good guy, I just wish they would put some other people on The Footy Show, sometimes I feel that he is there every episode. Maybe I just notice him more than the other regulars haha. Bring in some more Brent Harvey =]

Yes..think hes great ..except when Crows are playing Richmond! A real nice guy!..and a great footballer..pity about Richmond's lack of sucess.
Mark from Melbourne (Magpies supporter), 26 Aug 2008 15:45hide comment
I used to think he was the most over-rated player in the league, possibly because he rarely played a good game against Collingwood, and his kicking was woeful. However, over the past few years, I've grown to really admire him - he weras his heart on his sleeve, always gives 100%, and loves his club. Playing up on the wing this year has shown he's not a one dimensional player either, and he's super fit, especially for his age! I still get stuck into him when Richmond play Collingwood though. Old habits die hard. I'll never forget when he declared a few years ago that he wanted to captain Richmond, then came out against Collingwood and played a shocker! "Give him the captaincy" was ringing around the ground from sarcastic Collingwood supporters. Too funny.

For what it's worth ,I think richo has given 100% for the tigers every year he's played!.

Im a bit impartial. I enjoy watching him shank them when there are vocal tiger supporters around though.
