Are all AFL Commentators up themselves?
After watching Mark "Robbo" Robinson talk about himself for half of Game Day on Sunday I wanted to ask everyone else.

Commentators / Jounos have got huge heads they all think their opinion really matters and that they have the best scense of humour. Cut the crap and just talk about footy!!!!

So I ask you, Are AFL Commentors / Jounalists fully up themselves and need to be brought down a peg or two?

one commentator i do like, that i thought id never admit, is nathan buckley. he isnt up himself at all and talks about the game well and explains things. he is def commentator material. as much as i didnt like him as a footballer. he is good and always has good honest opinions.

i cant wait till voss starts coaching.
1 it will not allow him to commentate coz he cant.
2 it means that he can put all his "theroys" in place.

hahaha I couldnt agree more Matt. Vossy just has no idea, he tries to make jokes and muddles up his words he is hopeless! I do like Bucks he is the only shinning light at 7 and Luke Darcy does alright at Ten.

Bucks also does a good job at 3AW, he fits in well with the boys there.

Actually I dont mind Eddie on SEN when hes not talking Collingwood.

Did you hear Eddie call into 3AW the other day about the Clash Jumper issue he and Bucks had a little tiff. Thats when Eddie is a pain in the arse when he talks about Collingwood as if its the only team in the comp.

is buckley for the clash jumper?
yeah eddie is a cockhead.
seriously. wats so hard about ahving a clash strip. if collingwood are so pro tradition they shouldnt kick up such a fuss about port.

I cant remember what was said but they were looking too far into it. Eddies thing was the Kangaroos Traditional strip isnt Traditional cause it has changed over the years and he reckons Collingwoods is exactly the same. But doesnt it have more black down the sides now?

All the other teams have a clash strip and the thing is Collingwood would only have to wear it for a Roos homegame. 1 game a year and he's still pissing and moaning about it.

i think the funniest thing in AFL is wen a journo or commentator gets proven wrong.

for example mike sheehan saying after waty... round 8 that the final 8 was set in stone. wat a stupid comment to make. look at him back peedle now "ooo i over estimated the roos" there in there "oo adeliade are playing bad now" "stkilda have no chance" " essendon will be a bottom 4 team".

also hutchie... he just talks sooo much crap, and then wen someo of the crap happens that he talks about (which is rare) he claims it as an exclusive, he reackons he broke the story 10 weeks ago. hes a idiot. if i was a footballer n he hounded me id go all barry hall on his ass.

The thing I really dont like about Hutchie is he only cares about himself and winning awards. He has no respect for the game or the players. He makes no attempt to promote the game he only promotes himself.

I cant handle Triple m... The boys on that gees they annoy me, i flick over and listen to footy on SEN because on triple m they think there jokes are the funniest, and then cut callers off... 1 nite my cousin and i called them, and then questioned at the end as to who are they? well they didnt like that and at the end of the show when they do the 1,2,3 i got 1 vote... Too funny... Stuff em, we (supporters) give those media people a job... :-)

i love Brian Taylor. Bests commentator by a mile in my eyes. Love it when Leon Davis or Wonnameri go near the ball lol.
Its great when something flukey happens and they all start yelling, so funny.
I guess if i lived in Melbourne i would check out SEN and that cause we dont get it here. Its either Triple M or 5AA which is generally the SA commentators which are completley biased or we get 3AW through 5AA depending what other game is going on in Melbourne.

I dont live in Vic, I use the AFL website. Go to Gameday Live and u have ur choice of radio stations. Its the best way to go especially where I live the TV coverage is sh!thouse

Good on ya Rebecca. I do enjoy listening to Triple M before a game but during the game I switch over to 3AW or SEN far better commentry. The Triple M boys are more interested in talking about themselves than the game itself. If it wasnt for Gary Lyon I wouldnt listen to MMM at all.

There are some commentators i like that do talk themselves up but they do it in a funny fashion.
The ones i dislike are in the following...

1) Andrew Maher. I have no idea how he became a boundary rider but he was the 1st to start talking over the commentators during the game. He also tries to stop the other panelists on Before the Game from joking around. Absolute wanker.

2) Dennis Commetti. Talks so much **** its not funny. His jokes are not funny and continues to bring up stuff that has no relevance to the game.

3) Mark Stevens. Absolute knob and have no reason, i just dont like him lol.

I think your spot on with those 3. I actually hate them for exactly the same reasons. I dont know what it is about Stevens either but he just come across as a wanker.

You could add "The Ox" he is so sure of himself. Also JB and BT on Triple M tend to think their sh!t dont stink.

I do like BT and JB but, i think they add some humour to the games. BT probably rates himself a bit but i like him as a commentator

Spot on though James Brayshaw lost respect in my eyes when pushing the Kangaroos game and going to work for Triple M.

Do as I say not what I do...Eddie never done that.

Don't like Hutchy, see my earlier forum.

I cant stand Robert Walls he is an arogant wanker who talks so much crap its not funny, sometimes i cant stand watching on the couch on fox cos he annoys me. Dwayne Russel annoys me and im so glad they gave Kevin Bartlett the ass cos his slopping in the microphone was a pane in the padantic ass.

Haha I agree with the Kevin Bartlett comment. But I dont mind Wallsy he mainly speaks sense and he always has nice things to say about the Cats lol
Ryan from Gold Coast (Lions supporter), 21 Jul 2008 17:53hide comment
Thats a fair comment, Robinson was overly confident on Game Day I noticed. However, with the likes of Bruce McAvaney and Anthony Hudson there really is a broader aspect of quality amongst AFL commentators, as opposed to five 2nd class journos on a couch Sunday mornings. Mike Sheahan also comes to mind when the word 'journo' is mentioned with his wealth of knowledge and AFL opinions.
