International Rules. What do you think?
just noticed its returning soon, and I hate it.

I don't understand why we need to mash a whole bunch of rules that we are usually don't know, and they don't know. and expect a good game. It's always between Ireland and Australia. I think its a waste of time and they bring up the whole brawl with the last encounter with the irish and penalties or whatever. I just don't understand why bother being there! they're not playing AFL are they? so why send AFL blokes over? To rubbish.

So doing some research online (google) and I found there are other countries who are playing AFL! America, Canada, England. There's a fair bit if you actually look in. I just can't help but think, Why can't the AFL organise some actual AFL matches with AFL rules against international teams who want to play AFL? I came across an 'unoffical AFL world cup'? Why Is it unofficial and how come we don't know about it?

State of Origin should return. I believe it's great to see that, but how good would it be to see The AFL wearing Green and Gold against some other blokes who want to try our game? or even the challenge of it all?

What does everyone think?

International Cup? it seems legit

Yeah, I'm also not convinced by the choice of coach.

There is a simple reason why International Rules is a good thing: it gives Australian footballers the chance to represent their country, which really should be the pinnacle of any sport. It is pointless having Australians play against any other nation in Australian football, because we'd absolutely beat the snot out of anyone we played - so, the hybrid game gives us the opportunity to have a sensible game.

While State of Origin would probably be a better spectacle, it is impossible to simply re-invent it and make everyone think it is important. We don't have the history that NRL State of Origin has, and we cannot contrive it. The honour of representing one's state has clearly diminished, but the honour of representing one's country never does.

But how do we treat the series? Two series ago, Ireland beat us comfortably, so we changed our selection policy from taking the All-Australians (unless they pulled out with injuries) to taking a tailor-made team, and absolutely belted the Irish. But that defeats the entire point, for mine. By taking the faster running players instead of the All-Australians, the honour of representing the nation is no longer reserved for the best of our game. For mine, it doesn't really matter whether we win the series or not, because it's clearly just a hit-and-giggle type of thing.

Incidentally, they do a bit of press surrounding the International Cup when it comes around, which it will be this August. I saw the last Grand Final (New Zealand beating PNG) which was a curtain raiser to a Carlton Collingwood game, and I've seen a couple of exhibition matches at Princes Park involving Japan. But the gulf between talents is understandably enormous at times - the national Japan team played a very close and exciting game against an Auckland club side, but got spanked the previous year by the NZ national team.

Stupid choice of coach. Should have been a tactical coach rather than an angry old man who has seen better days.

I would rather see a world cup. But I do like the idea of beating the poo out of the Irish. I reckon Chris Johnson should be brought back for all future Australia v Ireland matches. That was so cool
