Why Collingwood will beat Sydney
The Swans will host the inconsistent Collingwood Magpies, who are coming off back-to-back losses against current league leaders Western Bulldogs and the ever-improving Carlton Blues. Sydney has been one of the in-form teams this season, having won their last six games on the trot. Collingwood have had a real Jekyll and Hyde season of late â€" establishing themselves as premiership contenders by disposing of flag favourites Geelong by 86 points just over a month ago only to fall short against the in-form Bulldogs last week. Sydney’s dual Brownlow Medalist and key mid-fielder Adam Goodes will have to watch from the sidelines after he was rubbed out for one match following a charge of rough conduct during their Roundd 13 clash with Melbourne. Collingwood lose Anthony Rocca and youngster Ben Reid to foot injuries while they await results from this week’s fitness test of star on-baller Leon Davis and ruckman/vice captain Josh Fraser before naming their complete side. History informs that Sydney has been unsuccessful in its last four attempts against Collingwood, the most significant being Collingwood’s 38 point victory to knock Sydney out of last years premiership race. We take Collingwood to win by inside two goals in a see-sawing thriller. Check out the latest AFL previews at http://betting.betfair.com/aus/

Spot on Matt. I'II never say go Carlton but I think as supporters you have been thru the mills with a few poor seasons because people you trusted ie Jack Elliot derailed your club. Well I will never say Go Blues I love my AFL and am smart enough unlike those Nuff Nuff's like Jay or Andrew to know a strong Carlton makes the AFL even stronger.

You can tell you have been following footy for a whole 2 minutes, you know nothing... if my team isn't playing on this weekend i will support another team, if your team isn't in the finals you can still support another team last year i was geelong all the way... Even if my heart isnt that team, does not mean i cant support them on any given day... Fool people who trully love footy will support other clubs when there team isnt playing... Eg: port adelaide vs adelaide : id go adeliade carlton vs essendon : id go essendon its similar to footy tipping... Best you spend that 150,000 you apparently earn on some education classes... :-) Go Pies...

I'd like to see the roos make the top 8 and tipped it at the start of the season. I have nothing against the roos you guys have a small supporter base and are one of those sides with no absolute champions but a team that goes out every week to give it a go. Lay off collingwood! We won, and if we would have lost fair enough, but we won so there! Collingwood arn't a bad side, I don't claim your team to be, yes we all know collingwood are inconsistant but that is because we are a young team. We beat Geelong and now Sydney. Don't go calling us crap!

"i love seeing stupid 1 eyed uneducated backward toothless brainless dimmy's shopping pies fans think they go alright swans by 10 goals. pies over rated." Jay, I hope you are wearing your bib to stop the **** your talking from ruining your clothes. Firstly you want to talk about over rated?? Look in the mirror mate, the Kangs were over rated last year and look what happened in the finals. One of the worst finals side ever. Secondly you show you have no education when it comes to footy, "swans by 10 goals". No behind your comment is a sad little boy who has come to realise he supports a club that aren't going no where. See the truth behind your membership "record"?? Let's face the Kangs in refusing the Gold Coast have written their own death certificate. Had their chance to continue in the comp but chose a path that wasn't the right track aka Fitzroy. Only thing is there will be no merger this time. Bye bye Kangas, so who is "stupid 1 eyed uneducated backward toothless brainless dimmy's shopping" moran???? At least my club will be around to watch in 10 or so years.

Guy, you are an idiot. The Kangaroos were not overrated last year at all. Prelim final was a very good result for them. The Kangaroos will survive. Brayshaw is a very good man for the Roos to have at the club and will not give up until the Roos are financially in the right place. There is not a lack of education in the opinion that Sydney will win by 10 goals. It is not an unlikely outcome. They are playing better football than they were in 2005 when they won the flag.

Who is an idiot????????????????????? I was correct with my opinion. Seriously Sydney by 10 goals was never going to happen. You just wanted to have a pot shot at the Pies, at least we will play finals this year and perform under pressure. You see we only turn up to play against opposition we respect, Carlton doesn't fit into that group. To see all ya moran supporters jumping around post game at the MCG was comical for us Collingwood people. We don't respect you, you haven't earnt it. Good luck for 2009, I doubt we'll see you come finals time. If we do well, that's a different game isn't it. By the way how stupid is Fev, tells people at the Fenech fight Sydney have made an offer............... Why???? Cause Carlton are treating him with the respect he deserves, a bloody good player but one like Cousins who can damage the brand. Hang on a minute, didn't Elliott and Dick Pratt do that 2??? Carlton culture just like cheating and tanking..... As said earlier, your opinion is like when I need to pass stools, a fart, a wet 1 at that.... Jay, Firstly I'm guessing you did well in English. I always find it amusing about the stereotypes that people put on Collingwood supporters and yet your English is of maximum year 9. Are we in the Premiership hunt Mr Year 9?? While at least we are in the 8 for starters. Where were Port last year at this point in time??? In a worse position than us anyway. When it matters Collingwood will perform so until our season is over dribble from you is just that, dribble. I bet you got a lot of love from ya mother, your comments to Rebecca indicate you have no respect for women and recent media exposure in regards to this obviously haven't got through your thick head. Women play a massive role in the AFL. For a moment who do you think take the majority of children to play little league?? Wash the jumpers??? Work the Kiosk?? Whoops if you are beginning to understand you probably have a headache! "maybe we should just spit on the opposition hey that works!" Above is where your lack on knowledge and obvious lack of current affairs is shown. The person that spat on the opposition wasn't even a Collingwood supporter but in fact an Essendon supporter. As for spitters while Richmond or was it the Kangaroos had the last identified? In fact I can't recall a Collingwood person being caught spitting. No Mr Year 9, you are a sorry little man who dribbles too much ****. North Melbourne have signed their own death certificate and won't be around much longer. Just think if you have or ever have kids there will be no games to watch and cheer, just a few DVD's of a club not good enough to survive in the national competition. If your concentration span has got you to this point I'm proud of you and shocked.

Mr Year 9, If it wasn't for women the game would last for 30 or years before super rules was the only form of AFL. We would cease to exist!! That is a fact!!!! You in the outer as you say are a limited species... FAIL this issue... Your happy it was Port that made it to the grand final?? It was good it was them that got shown up on the big stage?? So it is ok you get smashed on the 2nd biggest stage by how many points?? That Port players disrespect your club by bowing and such things. That your 1st final was a loss by 100 and what points!!!! FAIL this issue... The biggest pigs in the AFL remember Vic Park days???? Every club has feral supporters that is fact. Every fan has a horrible story about some goose at the footy. NOT ASSESSED... No Point North Melbourne won't survive the next 15 or so years. 18 teams in a few years doesn't work from a commercial sense. The AFL commission have done a good public relations job with North! Gave them a chance to survive which they knocked back. Eventually the drip feed on money to the poorer clubs will stop and all the one year wonder members will be gone. The AFL will make a statement about how sad it is and stuff before adding that it was not their choice. It's Not a case of IF but WHEN North say goodnight!!! We all Fail this issue!!! END OF STORY

And again you missed the point what i was saying is that if port done that to us in the prelim final, then geelong done that to port it might of been even more messy on the main stage u twat listen instead of trying to be a smart guy. dont worry bout the vic park days nothing has changed ask any non pie's supporter thats not a moran. And finally 18 teams wont work commercially huh? thats intresting when you look around the world at major leagues isn't it? look at the premier league in the u.k or nba in the usa. people like you some up that arrogant manner in which collingwood is about and why your the most hated club in aus.

Mr Year 9, I'm sorry to inform you that you should consider marrying into a rich family. Your not going to do so well considering your low IQ. How are footballers born?? Where do they come from??? A WOMAN moran! Women are vital to life, from the beginning to the end. Behind every great man is a great women... You ask why 18 teams can't survive considering football leagues in the uk and the nba??? Simple mate it's called maths. London has during business hours the population of Australia. More people mean more money to be spent supporting your club. That's how so many more clubs survive overseas. Australia is competing against sports such as Soccer and Rugby to remain popular. The handouts have to stop sooner rather than later to remain competitive. It's economics 101. No more handouts mean no more North and maybe more. Football is no longer a sport, it's a massive business. RIP North Melbourne. The siren has sounded on this topic.

How can this arguement be over when you finish it with a comment like that? Your still dangling the carrot. I spose you'll be in the draft or applying for a coaching position in the AFL next year yourself? Na didn't think so your just a supporter like the rest of us, the joke is actually on you because you've put yourself in the perfect position to be ridiculed now. The only valid point you can make that bears any significance to your argument is that women dont play or coach in the AFL, like wow man thats some amazing truth you've enlightened us with. I mean really this is a discussion board for supporters, and I'm sure you are aware that half the supporters are, OMG your not gunna believe it.......female

all i can say is that i've got more chance of being drafted than any female. i meen the best female footballer in aus has got less chance than the worst male footballer to ever play. How often do you see woman sport on t.v? yeah now theres netball on fox and tennis (which i got no idea how woman tennis players want the same prize money as men but only play 3 sets). if woman dont play or coach in the afl (which they never will) how are woman equal with men in football? i think football might of been stated for the blokes to get away from there wives. Its not even sexist its just the facts, what sam newman has said about woman in football is dead wright i know it, u know it and so does everyone else just don't like hearing. WOMAN AREN'T EQUAL IN FOOTBALL.

I'm talking about the supporters you tool, opinions, discussion, you dont have an argument Jay, and your floggin a dead horse. Because honestly who the F here would argue that woman could play better than men, it's not about that, women have been just as involved and passionate about the game from the start, it's got nothing to do with who's the stronger sex or more to the point because you are physically stronger and male your opinions on footy are more valid than a female supporters. That may work in the smoko room but your opinion means squat on here. And seriously you cant stoop much lower than having Sam Newman as your inspiration for opinion, thats just scraping the bottom of the barrel on your behalf. Try thinking for yourself?

Yep Mr Year 9, the 90's was a difficult time but it was for all the clubs hence Fitzroy. Unlike North though Collingwood had a massive supporter base and only had to get it's house in order for corporate sponsors to get onboard. Eddie as a wonderful leader was able to gel the organisation to make it is today THE MOST SUCCESSFUL VICTORIAN CLUB. Throughout all of your arguments there seems to be a scent of jealousy. Lets face it WHO owns your club anyway, the shareholders?? part north?? maybe members. Hell if it wasn't for Carlton being nice they would still own a piece of you. So laugh as much as you want about Collingwood and what role women play. 15 or so years time your club will be consigned to the history books like University and Fitzroy. Guess what Mr Year 9...... there is a more probable chance of females being central umpires in 10 years than North being alive. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA p.s. why don't you shock your partner and do some housework ohh I mean women duties.

Yeah Collingwood are whingers? seems to me its more people outside the Collingwood FC that continue to cry about the AFL draw or how many games that they play at the MCG. Do some fking research and you would know why.

daniel, your from adelaide so your obviously a bit backward. of course we care where we're going we just know where we are at, unlike you. you cant tell me your in the same group as cats, hawks, dogs & swans then i still would think crows are ahead of you. i love playing collingwood coz most the time im going home happy in recent times. and you wont get within 10 goals of sydney im telling you that.

not a bad comment considering you are from Geelong lol. Interesting Jay cause if we win on Saturday night then we jump to 5th over the Crows and 6pts behind Sydney who are in 4th. Sydney then have to play Hawks, Cats, Bulldogs, Adelaide and us again so we can still get the double chance.

My opinion, the Pies will beat Sydney simply because they have to. And if they play like they did against the Cats, all criticism aside, they are undeniably a good pressure side, their inaccurate goal kicking has been letting them down of late but with Cloke, Fraser and Leon back this week and Goodes out, the break, the importance of the four points, the fact that they've lost a couple of games on the trot, I really think you'll see the Collingwood that played Geelong again this week. And my prediction is that Dale Thomas is going to have a ripper game and kick a couple of goals, he's overdue for it.

if we do lose then yes we will be equal with those sides. You cant look at it like that but. Collingwood have a great opportunity to win in Sydney and jump to 5th position. If we dont win then yeah you have to look at just trying to make the 8 cause Sydney will be 14pts clear and yeah u wont catch that. Really is a 8 point ball game on Saturday night

why arent we up to it? look im happy just to make the 8 but while top 4 is still a realistic chance then why not aim for it? Sydney are going to drop a few games in the last half of the season so whoever is up to it, being Collingwood, Adelaide or Brisbane then why not?

you might beat them, but on current form and players that you have out it might be a hard task. the pies are good at beating teams when they are down and out. you beat the Cats so you have a good chance of beating the Swans. you have a good chance of beating them now that Goodes is out. it will be a good game to watch

with the cat comment i was just saying you beat them (they weren't down and out. you said they were down and out). the cats are great no question about that. with the down and out comment i meant when the pies are down and out. when the pies have key or important players out they always seem to win. even with Goodes in or out the swans are a great side. they are great in sydney but you do have a good record up there but with some of your key players out can't see you winning. but the pies are good with half their good players out. so you have a good chance of wnning the game (even if Goodes was playing).

I think Collingwood also get Travis Cloke back? And I don't think Spida Everitt is playing for the swans. Collingwood will need to win this if it wants to keep its top 4 chances alive and but beating sydney gets a whole game closer. Not one collingwood will be letting get away and with the extra weeks rest Collingwood will be fully energised and ready to tackle the swans. I tip the pie by 2 goals

Matt your wrong, so explain to me how they determine betting... Explain to me why collingwood always has the upper hand on port adelaide over there, why carlton didn't win for 8 years over in W.A... History stands for things...

betting is determined on wat the TAB think is a fair price to start at and how much chance they think a team has on winning because of potential, and then the odds are shortened or made larger depending on how much money people are putting on a game. for example wen stkilda played the roos on the weekend the saints were $3, the rooes $1.85. this was because the roos were believed to be a better chance of winning because of form, not because in the 141 games palyed before this that stkilda had won 70, the rooes 69 and there was 2 draws. i think betting was a very bad example to try and make. i no history talks, but if it had such a huge impact on games then stkilda surely should not ahve the wood on carlton over the last 5 or so years. they have beatin us over 100 more times then we ahve beatin them.

i realise all that but ultimately they do go by the history of the 2 clubs and where they are at in the present day... It includes the so many different things we could all go on and on about it... The games at the end of the day talk for themselves... Hopefully we get over them like history has shown... Go Pies...

I also respect what your saying, i dont think its all based on history though mentally i think it plays a roll and sometimes tells a story... Its like carlton i cant stand them and no matter where collingwood is on the ladder we struggle against them and majority of times they beat us... makes sense why they only wanna play us all year long... lol... :-)

lol. i said it may have an affect on the way a player thinks about the game. ill use carlton n stkilda as a example ok. fev has palyed the saints in there last 9 or so loses to us. he had 5 goals kicked on him in a quarter against gehrig one time. he may, although i doubt it, have doubts about beating stkilda because he hasnt beatin them before, in his career. kruezer has never palyed stkilda. he doestn have the same thoguht towards the game as fev. its hard to explain wat i mean. i was saying that i dont think that just because the swans in the past have had trouble against collingwood, that they will have less chance of winning

Matt i generally respect ur comments but i think you have this one wrong. History means a great deal against certain sides. Look at North and Port, North havent beaten them in like 11 matches. Some teams match up well on other teams. Great win on Sat night by ur mob by the way

was a good win. good to see them playin some attacking footy in the 2nd half. i no against some teams there is a bit of a voodoo. saints cant beat port at port. i was just trying to say that i dont think that just because 1 team has had the wood over another in the past, it will have a huge effect on the game. just look at stkildas records... lol. we have onli beaten carlton around 40 times in like 180 games.... but we have won the last 9. it depends on how the team goes about the game and the list. not so much the past.

Lets face it, it will be a cracker of a game, Syd v Pies always is. Why?? The are the two most discipline teams in the comp when it comes to following the coach's direction. What they lack in skill they make up as a team. I just love the comments regarding "Collingwood has only beaten Geelong" as the Pies play opposition who put in say 5 - 10% more just cause it's Collingwood. While Collingwood can't play week in week out 100% switch on as it wears down the team in a 22 week season plus finals. With the break to freshen up and Sydney winning well it should be a cracker.
