Brisbane are finished
Brisbane does not have a premiership team - a couple of factors come to mind: firstly, the midfield, talented however lacking leg speed and aging. Secondly, the forward setup is consistent with good marking and leading ability, however very one dimensional and predictable with Brown and Bradshaw kicking the majority of goals. Thirdly, and possibly the most glaringly obvious fault is the backline. The Lions backline look hopelessly out of their depth when facing forward structures that don’t resemble the more traditional setup. Lastly, lethal Leigh has big question mark in the way he recruits and the way his football team setup structurally. Yes, he is one of greatest of all time; however, I think the evolution of the game has bypassed the great Victorian. Brisbane will be competitive and will make the finals but they will be out in the first round come September time.

It's an interesting thought. One school of thought says that they are caught in a bad age distribution of several old players who will be gone by the time the young players have enough experience to win a flag, leaving a gap in the team. I disagree with this, though. They don't rely on their old players too much, and they have a good crop of youngsters. This means that legitimate premiership possibility in a couple of years is there.

And Brown and Bradshaw cannot be considered "one dimensional." That's clearly two dimensions, and since Hawthorn seem to be attracting plenty of premiership favouritism with its two-pronged forward-line, I see no reason why it couldn't work for Brisbane.

Let me clarify what I mean by one-dimensional Tarrant. I’m referring in particular to the way that Brown and Bradshaw compete tactically as a unit. This is a typical example of the Brown and Bradshaw show: Brown leads, unsuccessful; Bradshaw leads, unsuccessful;Brown and Bradshaw position in close proximity to contest the high ball, unsuccessful; Bradshaw positions in goal square, Brown positions 30 meters away; provides targets at the goal square and for the running Brown whom can run back (wards) into the hole, successful. As a tactical unit these two players are predictable and one-dimensional in there tactical nuance. If it weren’t for superior abilities as footballers this tactic would be almost fruitless. Tarrant you might want to review your comment on Hawthorns ‘two-pronged forward- line’. It’s damn obvious that Hawthorn have an embarrassment of riches, with forwards, and the ability of ‘non-forwards’ to kick goals. There is no such thing as a two-pronged attack at Hawthorn.

Hawthorn have 201 goals, 98 from Franklin and Roughead (48.7%)
Brisbane have 180 goals, 83 from Brown and Bradshaw (46.1%)
I know it's plenty more complicated than this, but I shan't be reviewing a thing.

same could be said of hawthorn. a lot of ur goals come through rough head and buddy. hodge and mitchel arnt the fastest running players out there. ur defence hasnt had to prove itself yet as ur defensive pressure in the midfield is good, the one time they did get tested against the doggies, the dogs won.

liegh matthews has a great football mind n id love him to coach my club. his recruiting is top notch n he can get players to play in a way and with so much intensity that i doubt those players would play the same way at a differnt club.

i disagree totally with u.

Spot on Matt.
You cant judge Brisbane on 1 performance. Imagine if Buddy or Roughead didnt play in a game, it would end up with the player playing behind double teamed and then others having to stand up to kick the goals.
The conditions also didnt help the Lions. It was wet as and with the Lions lack of leg speed it really suited the Dogs.
You get the Lions in september in good conditions, throw in Bradshaw and a fit Lappin and you have a excellent side that could beat anyone on the day.
You wouldnt write Geelong off just cause of 1 bad game against Collingwood? exactly the same reason u cant write off Brisbane after 1 game.

Also.... I blame that uniform for the lack of intensity!!

I agree to an extent... History shows that you just can't pop out of nowhere and win a flag the following year. Brisbane finished 9 last year, so I think they probably will be happy with a result around 5-7... Any better than that would be a bonus.

Its kind of disappointing to think that seriously there are probably only 2-3 teams that can actually win the premiership. I wouldn't write the bulldogs off yet.

I don't think brisie are finished. That being said I can't see em winning a premiership this year. They have some solid talent. I think they will get better towards the end of the season
