Anyone actually game enough to rate the Bulldogs yet?
Ryan Griffin: One of the best midfielders in the league
Adam Cooney: Same as Above
Robert Murphy: One of the best CHF's in the league
Brian Lake: One of the best defenders in the league
Johnno: What can I say the guy's an absolute legend and the list goes on. Boyd, Cross, Gilbee, Gia, Morris no Westy today but he would normally be thrown in there as well. Broke a 5 year drought today the Doggies. Sydney just couldn't shut us down for the last 3 quarters, they were really good early but we just out run them for the rest of the game. NICE!!!!

no one will rate the dogs until the beat the Hawks or Cats or win a flag. it is good in a way so there is not to much pressure to win like the cats and the hawks.
the dogs will be under everyone rader and they will have a go at winning this years flag.the dogs are better then last year and will finish in the top 4
Ryan from Adelaide (Crows supporter), 16 May 2008 12:15 hide comment
definately a top four chance! Especially since they fixed their forward line and rucks. I reckon one more key defender to back up lake and they're a real premiership chance.
Dave from Adelaide (Crows supporter), 5 May 2008 18:47 hide comment
With three south aussies in your side you will MAKE THE TOP FOUR. griff, coons and Harris (lake) just awesome. I rate them very highly and dogs supporters you must be happy. lucky ducks!

I watched rob murphy play and he played a ripper. Not your typical shape of a centre half forward but doing fantastic.

You make real good opinions on footy Kristy. Very sensible and passionate. Good work...keep it up. Enjoy reading them!

You know Dave, I'm usually Vics all the way but this year I dont think I will be able to stop myself barracking for the South Aussies on Saturday nite because of Griffo and Coons. And sad will be the day, I hope never comes, when either of those 3 decide to return to SA.

And thanks for that, Yes I do like expressing my opinions on alot of things, Footy being the main topic of interest at the moment. And I am continually intrigued at the kinds of responses certain topics will receive if any at all.

And can I just say the Crows have impressed me on several occasions this season including when we played you guys in round 1, that was a cracker game my mild heart attack has only just recovered recently LOL. I really like the way you guys play. And I guess I'm a bit outside of the norm when I say that I dont really harbor any hatred towards SA teams, I dont really have a hatred for any one particular team for that matter.

Those players you mentioned i don't think they will be coming home. They seem to be entrenched in Victoria. They seem to be loving Melbourne and have other south aussie boys to talk to from within the club and outside. They are also key members of the team and future leaders and are already the best players in the comp.Victorian clubs seem to do a fantastic job keeping interstate recruits feel right at home which makes them less inclined to want to go back home. Also Victoria is the home of footy and the city of Melbourne is a vibrant city therefore wouldn't want to go home.

The dogs are playing attacking fabalous footy while the crows are playing more attacking footy this year instead of that rubbish defensive style. The attacking footy seems to paying off and the crows fans are happy they are playing that style.

Personally i love Victoria and hate South Aussies putting down vic. I have a lot of family living in Victoria and consider it as my second home. I try to go down as much as possible and visit them in LaTrobe Valley: Morwell and Tralgon. I watched my first game at the MCG in 2006 round 20 against the bulldogs. It was a great game... unfortunately the crows lost as that magnificent player- Adam Cooney kicked a couple goals to win the game from a 30 point margin favouring the crows. It wasn't a totally bad night and went to the casino.

I cant stand the whole rivalry stuff from supporters, it's just so unnecessary. All the Carlton/Essendon/magpies WC/Freo PA/ADEL all the constant bitchin at each other, baggin out the other sides and always trying to big note their own side. ITS OLD AND BORING and I wish they would grow up and learn how to appreciate teams for what they are rather than some 3 generation old brainwashing which poses as support for their side but really it's based more around their hatred for the opposition. I was talking to a supporter the other day and he told me that he hates the Bombers more than he loves his own side. WTF is that?
1 reply hide reply
Dave from Adelaide (Crows supporter), 8 May 2008 17:53 hide comment
I am really not sure! What you said about generations of brainwashing is probably spot on. Though people wouldn't have it anyway and keeps things from being dull. Every supporter is passionate about their club and if someone has a go at his team they kinda take it personally. To the hardcore supporters AFL is more than just a sport... its life to many people.

The tribut game should be interesting, o have no idea who is going to win. The questions i have are:
1) will players and fans take it seriously?
2) If long term injuries occur to any given key players what will be the consequences. Footy is like a business now!

Kristy from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 8 May 2008 19:42 hide comment
You know I hope the players dont take it too seriously, I personally dont take it all that seriously, and I'd be livid if either Griffo or Coons or Johnno got injured during the game, I'd like to think they can be a bit "social" about this game. Of course they'd remain competitive but theres just way too much at stake especially for the Hawks with Franklin and Sam Mitchell and I reckon it would be devastating for us if we lost coons or griffo and imagine if Carlton lost Judd at the moment...

Peoples opinions around Melbourne are fairly neutral on the topic. Most of the supporters I know aren't going Sat nite and the serious supporters I know are interested but concerned about injuries etc.

Footy is Big Business and simply the teams will just have to cop it on the chin if any of the players get injured during the game. I mean they cop a heap of flak if they opt out of playing, and they do bang on a bit about it being a great honor so they know perfectly well the consequences of injuring themselves at such a vital time in the season.

And I like to see myself as a fairly hardcore supporter and if someone is havin a dig at the Doggies I'll be the first one on the defensive but I guess I just haven't grown up in the kind of household that prided itself on hating other so called rival clubs. Dad:SYD Mum: DOGGIES

If fans and players alike don't care about this origin type game.....there is no hope of it being rekindled in the future. It will be lost forever. Its a shame but that was the past when footy was not, i guess professional. fOOTY IS BIG MONEY NOW AND A PLAYERS WORTH TO HIS SIDE IS EVERYTHING. a PREMIERSHIP COULD BE WON OR LOST DEPENDING ON AVAILABILITY OF STARS.

Your right some how players will be competitive but they will not do that extra that might cause an injury. Good game it will be netherless!

Don't forget to add Will Minson to the list. I rate the Dogs, especially after what Johno did to us in 5 minutes in Round 1.
Ben from Craigieburn (Magpies supporter), 6 May 2008 20:47 hide comment
rated them last year but they let me down lost big $ on them alll the best for the rest of the year.no one could be pissed off with their success.but go pies
Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 4 May 2008 19:15 hide comment
ive had the doggies in my 4 since i saw this years fixture.
i rated em last year, also rated the roos last year aswell and coped a lot of **** for it... but i had the last laugh haha.

the doggies are great but they still dont have that tall key forward. if they had a riewoldt, pavlich, brown, franklin, richo, llyodd, lucas type in there forward line more ppl would def rate em. there in my top for but i dont think its the year of the dog this year.

Kristy from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 4 May 2008 20:23 hide comment
Yes it would be good to have a tall forward like the ones you have mentioned but there are also some down sides with regards to tall forwards. One they are relied on way too much. Two what happens when they aren't in form, havin a bad day or become injured? And three I'd rather have 10 or 12 individual goal kickers per week than rely on the one or two key forwards to kick majority of the score. A strong mid field in todays fast paced games seems to be a key factor in winning games. And as Wil Minson improves up forward that tall forward your talking about may just be him.

imagine if u had a franklin or brown. it woulndt matter if they were out of form coz ur still getting ur 10-12 individual goal kickers. its just means u have a target to go for up forward.

I mean you wouldn't knock it back (a forward like Franklin or Brown) but one thing I do have to say is that we are the highest scoring side in the comp at the moment so target shmarget, we are doing fine without one. And nine times out of ten a target is exactly that, they become even more of a target to the opposition. (How often do you see these guys getting tagged and it still doesn't stop them, so effectively thats a waste of a perfectly good player and in turn how annoying it becomes to the player receiving the tag all the time) I just am happy at the moment with the fact that we're not relying on Johnno in the forward line anymore and without Westy in the mid field we can still create alot of center clearances, thanks to Coons Minson Griffo, Crossy, Hudson and Hahn.

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 6 May 2008 10:48 hide comment
target shmarget.... but wen u acctually play a team that has a good defence or defensive game plan, like hawthorn, were are these smaller players going to get there space?. hawthorns defensive zone pretty much makes the midfielders run through the center impossible, which is were the dogs majority of goals are coming from. i just couldnt see u beating hawthorn with the forward line u have because they no the dogs strength, at the moment, is there midfield and there current defensive game plan shuts down the corridor.

Kristy from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 6 May 2008 17:22 hide comment
Thats just assuming their defensive plan will shut down our run. Sydney has some of the best defensive tactics in the league albeit creating some boring passages of play but heah it works for them, and it did work for them in the first qtr against us but you cant deny that it pretty much failed for the rest of the game. We play the Hawks in a couple of weeks at Aurora so I'm not too confident either but heah we've had the best start to the year since 1946, and I just cant help hypin on a bit at the moment.....

sydney arnt the same powerhouse defensivly as they were 2 years ago. there on the way back down the ladder.

i was in the same state of mind as u were wen stkilda were 10-0 from 10 games. and then we ran into the best defensive team in the afl at the time, sydney, and they shut down the run of our midfielders.

not saying the dogs cant beat hawthorn, just saying its most likely not gonna happen without a key forward. u can onli rely on ur midfielders so much for goals. i wish stkildas midfielders were doing wat the doggies midfield is doing, coz we mite be in a lot better of a place then we are now... even though 5th isnt that bad

true! Dogs playing awesome footy and dont seem to need a tall key forward to dominate. playing style exciting and quick yet provide deffensive pressure sadly unlike the bombers at the moment. The dogs don't seem to get injuries like essendon from playing that fast past footy as well! Good management.
Ryan (Bulldogs supporter), 4 May 2008 19:13 hide comment
Geelong and hawks will beat us 8 out of 10 times, but anything can happen in finals Other than these 3 teams, I can only see Adelaide, Port and Sydney challenging for a top 4 spot. We are the highest scoring team in the comp, and have a midfield thats probably the third best in the league, so who knows? I just dont think we can beat Geelong's midfield or control Hawthorns forward line.
Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 4 May 2008 18:53 hide comment
i agree with everything bar ur comments on Griffen and Lake. Griffen doesnt do enough and doesnt touch it for a quarter but then will explode, need to be consistent. Lake is decent at best, gets cheap touches.
Steve from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 4 May 2008 18:42 hide comment
I think the Doggies are definitely top four material, together with the Crows. I think the Cats and Hawks are just a cut above everyone else. It probably comes down to their consistency over a couple of seasons. I do think you have a hard and fast side. You could also beat any team if you stick to your game plan and are at full strength. You should make it through to a Preliminary Final provided injuries don't play a factor...
