Sponsor naming rights: Footy grounds names seem to change constantly
In recent times iconic footy grounds having given up their naming rights to sponsors. So when is it enough? It seems sponsors come and go, therefore footy grounds name keep changing. It is hard to keep up what ground is what when a ground's name change. Princess Park went from Optus Oval to Mc. Docklands was given the early name of Colonial Stadiium which only lasted about a year now it well known as Telstra Dome. Footy Park Should have kept their name but now is AAMI Stadium. Many local grounds across Victoria, South Australia and other states have sold their name to their sponsors.

I realise why footy grounds sell their naming rights to sponsors. It is all about money and trying to keep finances up. It is a win=win for all involved. In my opinion it is so confusing an how is anyone meant to keep up with all the name changing. I believe a footy ground not only loses its name but also its identity!

Could grounds keep their original name but constantly expose their sponsor by having signage around the ground and by saying 'Princess park- proudly sposored by Optus" Would this work?

I believe the MCG is TOTALLY A NO GO ZONE! with all its history and tradition as well as being a Aussie icon. Another is the GABBA, Adelaide Oval, wacca etc. Footy Park Should have kept their name

So what grounds are out of bounds for name changing? How do you feel about grounds changing there name for their sponsors? Should it stop or do you support it? Discus it all!

Still i think the game would be so much better without the influx of sponsors trying to get there name out and advertise! Really annoying in recent times in my opinion even though clubs need it!

Advertising like this is an extremely easy way to raise money for the game - much easier than getting people to attend Melbourne games (for example). It doesn't really worry me.

I'm sorry, but i'm a traditionalist as well. Why don't they just stick to the gazetted name of the stadium for God's sake!! AAMI will always be Football Park to me, MCG, Subi and the Gabba are logical as is the SCG. To avoid confusion over the change of name every 5 seconds, Geelong will ALWAYS be Kardinia Park. Although their original ground was Corio Oval, not in Corio, but at Eastern Beach (go figure on that one, but at least on the shores of Corio Bay) and Telstra Dome should just be Docklands or alternatively Batman's Hill as the area was known since 1841. ANZ Stadium should just be Olympic Stadium, as we've only had one Olympic Stadium in Australian history, as the MCG wasn't renamed, even for the Olympics. At least everyone knows where they are!! Even a Vic like me has no trouble finding the Stadia interstate. Subiaco, Woollongabba, West Lakes and Moore Park are all easy to find, and most V/Line staff at Southern Cross know exactly where Kardinia Park is. LONG LIVE TRADITIONAL NAMES THAT TELL YOU WHERE THE HELL THE STADIUM IS!!

John i couldn't agree with you any more. Changing names of stadiums is confusing to everyone not just footy goers. I would love for grounds to go back to their original but unfortunately it will never happen. How sad!

It would be great if they could all go back to their original names - except Telstra Dome. If there's another change there I'll go mad.

It'd be better (and easier) if grounds could keep their original names and mention the sponsor around the ground instead, but whether it would be possible I don't know. It's likely that the condition of the sponsorship is that the ground be named after the sponsor.

It's good to know that it's not just Victorians who wouldn't want the MCG to be re-named.
