How many weeks should Barry Hall go for?
Don't know about the rest of you guys and gals on this discussion board, but Barry Hall's left hook on Brent Staker reminded me of Robbie Muir... the so-called media "experts" say a minimum of six... personally I think the tribunal will "throw the book" at him and give at least ten. Fire away folks let us know what you think.

In my opinion, it was nowhere near as bad as Plugger on Peter Caven, which went for eight weeks, but was in 1994. The fact that I can't remember a hit like that since that one means the basis for comparison is vague. It also wasn't as bad as Danny Williams in his last game for the Storm, which earned him 18 weeks, but the NRL is generally a lot harsher. I agree with Deanne in that I wouldn't use the word "king-hit." King-hit, to me, means taking the guy from behind or a blind spot. "Hit" or "punch" would be the word I'd use. I'll predict seven weeks. It won't be less than six, and it won't be more than nine. Ryan Gamble: one week reduced to reprimand - not much malice. Nick Maxwell: three weeks - raised elbow to Murphy's head. Definite holiday. Nick Stevens: no charge. Probably fined for running into umpire.

You forgot Nathan Bassett. Should get 1 week for reckless high contact on Rick Ladson - sighted after the game.

Got 7 weeks, would have been 8 but took the early guilty plea and the fact he didnt deny it or want to appeal any of the groundings for the suspension he had it reduced to 7. I think this is about right. You have to judge each case on its merit but looking at past cases it sounds about right. The fact people r wanting him to start his suspension from when he recovers from his wrist injury is stupid, that should never come into account. Shame he didnt get 6 weeks, would have been back for the WCE game at Subi!! now that would have been a game to watch

As a football supporter who HATES the eagles, I have to say what Barry Hall did was a really really low act, and he deserves to be out for at least 12 weeks, but this should be on top of the 4 weeks he is out for his broken wrist (which one could definitely say was karma)

I've heard 8-10 bandied about. Sick of the 'king-hit' talk tho'; a king-hit is when you've hit a person from behind when their back is turned: Staker definitely saw it coming (just didn't have time to get out of the way)! There's no defence, but it was an awesome sight to behold. Wish he'd knocked Adam Hunter out; god I hate that little rat boy...West Coast are a bunch of poseurs who taunt and provoke their opponents non-stop and it was great to see Barry finally knock one flat!

Like to know where you got your information from for the meaning of 'king hit'?? The term king hit usually means: - a knock out punch - knocked unconscious with only 1 punch - a punch to the face and the victim is usually taken by surprise I couldn't find anywhere saying that it is a hit from behind..... Staker was definately taken by surprise by the 1 punch and can't remember anything after the hit until he realised he was on the bench so in my eyes it is a king hit. Maybe somewhere they should add 'gutless act' aswell because that is what it was. There was no reason for him to react like that. How long has Barry been playing footy for and how many times over those years would he have been hung on to and niggled at?? 8-10 weeks to be served once his wrist has healed should be sufficient but we all know that won't happen. Anyone remember David Hookes the cricketer?? Killed by 1 punch by a boxer......

I never said it was ok, I was simply responding to the melodramatic TV commentary that it was a king-hit. Yes, it was a cheap, ugly shot; and I freely admit that if the situation were reversed I would be full of moral outrage. But, put very simply: I am a Swans supporter, and whilst I am generally very much against violence in sport, the Eagles **** me that much that I found the whole incident quite satisfying. Sorry, that's just how I feel about it. Honestly: if it had been Hall or one of our key players that were knocked out by an Eagles player, would you be this offended?

I'm sorry deanne i'm a little confused here you are really trying very hard to defend your self against your previous comments and are almost convincing however this little comment "the Eagles **** me that much that I found the whole incident quite satisfying. Sorry, that's just how I feel about it" really has you come across as being a violence loving, rough play supporting, "its ok to do it behing play... he saw it coming" and there fore is deserving narrow minded contradicting person, which i guess you can sum that up as simply SWAN SUPPORTER. And as a matter afact, if one of our boys did something of similar nature to one of your boys, yes we would be ashamed. and for the record, as this discussion board is spose to be about the weeks out for Barry, he should get at least 6 weeks...... AFTER his wrist heals. He has a history of "brain" snaps ( i use the term brain very very loosely) and should be made and example of not just to himself but to his team and to the AFL community in general that this kind of behaviour is frowned upon by ANY and ALL teams

Hmmmm...you're confused? I thought my position was quite clear. I do not feel the need to defend myself, or convince anyone. I was merely responding to someone else's comment, seeing as they clearly misinterpreted what I was originally saying. Contradicting? Definitely - life is full of contradictions for most of us (that's what makes things interesting!). Narrow-minded, though? Maybe when it comes to my team I am a little, but not so narrow-minded that I can't see there's no defence for what Hall did (which I believe I already said!). As for all your fellow West Coast supporters being as ashamed as you if one of your boys did something of a similar nature...I very much doubt it. Given the abundant hero worship of a certain player who repeatedly broke his team's and the AFL's rules, I think alot of Eagles supporters would be heartily amused if one of your boys had flattened one of the Swans. But I digress... Hall will likely get 6-8 weeks, possibly more. He deserves to be punished because it's never okay to hit someone in that manner; no, we don't want to see things like that in a game that a lot of us have our kids playing, and we don't want players seriously injured week in week out. This does not however, change the fact that (a) I've seen worse get less punishment; (b) Staker appears not to have suffered any serious injury; and (c) I hate the Eagles so much it brought a smile to my face.

If you read it s l o w l y, one might also notice that I said there was no defence for what Hall did (I'm not so one-eyed a supporter that I can't see that). I just really dislike the Weagles, is all. No other team provokes that kind of reaction from me.

Matt, Ian has a point Deanne is implying that it is ok to hit. Might not be a king hit but it still gives no-one the right to hit someone. So ok perhaps Staker was attacking Hall but a least he didn't throw any punches and that's the role of a defender, ATTACK. The way I see it is poor sportsmanship by Hall.

Ha yes I likened it to Robert Muir to - that same swinging motion with pure anger in his eyes! Barry should get 10 weeks to be served when he returns from injury! what an irony that he hurt his hand and will be out anyway - Barry is a thug always has been and always will be. Make him suffer. Or even better perhaps he should be charged with assault, because effectively that is what it was!

4-8 weeks. The hit was of the ball, No need and Stakes wasnt even looking at him. They should also look at his past record and take that into account that this ISNT the 1st time and it WONT be the last either its Hall of Shame were talking about here. Lets watchs Stakes next week show that it didnt matter on him, Hall is the idiot i nthe end not playing due to suspension AND injury
