What is the game coming to??
After watching the Carlton - Essendon game last night... i now know that the umpires decisions and rules brought out by the afl are getting worse every year! The game isnt fun to watch anymore with so many free kicks being awarded!
In the next few years the AFL is going to become close to netball... players are going to get penalised for simply tackling!!

The old stly of aussie rules is so much better to watch.. for example one of the best tackes in afl history... fraser brown's tackle in the 1999 Preliminary final would be awarded a free kick to essendon in todays game.

AFL IS A CONTACT SPORT... RELAX WITH THE FREE'S UMPIRES!

Does any1 agree?

I think the most frustrating one is that the chopping the arms free kick is being over-policed - players who do make the spoil and then contact the arms or even just the hands in the process. I think commentators mentioned that a couple of times, and since there's no safety issues surrounding that, I'd wager umpires will relax their interpretation on that.

Otherwise, I didn't have a particular problem with the Carlton Essendon game. I thought they generally let things go that would have been paid in the previous couple of weeks. There were a few perplexing decisions - tunneling against Eddie Betts, for example - which looked wrong with the benefit of replay, but the Simpson holding the ball was the only obvious real-time howler for me.

Yeah, Eddie Betts was bloody stiff on that. There's no way he should have even had free paid against him. He really didn't do anything wrong at all.

Look up AFL bumps, biffs and brawls on youtube if you wanna see some good old *hard* footy. ;-p

Yeah, it's really been bad this year... The Essendon / North game was one that was ridiculous in the first qtr...

The Bombers were giving a few away, mostly young guys too pumped and giving silly ones, but once the umpires put their whistles away in the 3rd & 4th, Essendon really took over. Not to say they wouldn't have one any way, but it can really change a game. The rules are just too soft these days.

And, yes, it probably would have been because Fraser ended up falling on Wallis' back. There is argument to say he may have turned him slightly.

fair call umpires can make the worst decisions

Yep I agree, players will all be required to wear netball type bibs soon. Whilst the rules are partly to blame I also think that there is no depth in umpiring so thats why some games are better umpired than others

ur spot on Cagla, think you boys got a few rough decisions in that game like when Monfries made a unrealistic attempt at the mark and took out the Carlton players and then the ball goes over and Lloyd kicks a easy goal to make it over 3 goal margin. Little things like that r frustrating. Hands in the back is not consistent either
