Can Melbourne possibly play any worse?
Can the demons possibly play any worse then they have the last 2 games? They have decent enough players. I just dont think Dean Bailey knows how to coach!

There are rebuilding phases and there are rebuilding phases! since 2003 Essendon seem to have gone through a rebuilding phase and for the most part stayed quite competitive.. But other rebuilding phases have had other teams stuck in the bottom 4 for (seemingly) many consecutive seasons.. And I do feel sorry for all teams who fall on tough times* and I remember being at the last Essendon / Melbourne match - Daniher's last game ass coack of the Demons - and after the siren I was singing their club song out of respect for his career.. But that's kinda irrelevant. I don't see their side as being completely devoid of talent, but I don't see the ir players demanding absolute commitment out of themselves, and out of their team-mates. They just don't seem to be having a committed go.. I don't know much about their new coach, but the players don't seem to be working incredibly hard for him.. And I do think it'd be different if Leigh Matthews was the coach - he wouldn't let the guys play if he wasn't going to get 100% commitment out of them..

I really feel for Melbourne at the moment i myself play footy and i played for a team a few years back that got belted week in and week out its not that you dont try!! you try your guts out but things just dont work.I think melbournes problem lies in the playing group there just not unified as a team yet theres to many players playing for themselves and not the team. This is a time for the club and its supporters to stick together and just keep working they'll bounce back.

Decent enough players?? Their senior players are too selfish, their middle and lower teirs have NOWHERE NEAR enough talent, and even McHale,Norm Smith, Sheedy, Pagan, Matthews, Barassi, Malthouse or Parkin could not do anything with that list. They are reminiscent of Fitzroy in their last days, and in a year as important as their sesquicentenary, it is bloody pathetic and entirely unacceptable. Two years ago, this mob were the highest ranked Victorian team, there haven't been too many list changes, so what the #@%$ is going on at Melbournefc?? I'm sure that all football supporters want to know, not just Demons supporters.

although I dont entirely agree with you ,you are right in that two years ago this side pumped Geelong came within 15pts of west coast and beat sydney in sydney ,without that many changes to the current side that now seems to look so lost with no idea how to find someone in space ,while sydney westcoast and geelong have gone on to win preimerships ,melbourne in typical fashion have turned to water and as far as this coach (and I use the term loosely) goes ,pay him out and send him on his way he has no idea just like the team on the park ,lack of vision and little to no understanding of how to play the game

Are you sure that you're a Melbourne supporter?, because your knee-jerk "sack the coach" response makes you sound a lot like a Richmond supporter. Read your own post again. "Melbourne, in typical fashion, have turned to water" - this comment suggests that there are deeper problems with the culture of the Demons than can ever be addressed by simply sacking the coach.

yep have been for forty two years and while other teams progress melbourne seems to drop off and fizzle out ,just look at the yoyo years and football is football the game remains the same the players grew up playing football (the skills are the same ) so how can you say they are adjusting to a new coach ( who is yet to win a game practise or real ) the game plan appears to be for players to remain in a predetermined position regardless of opposition players so much so that some seem scared to move more than ten feet in either direction or even bother to chase ,bring back man on man and stop the rot that is uncontested possesion, even with the amount of injuries last year at least melbourne put up a show ,and the melbourne in typical fashion have turned to water is a reference to how they seem to have become front runners and when things start to get tough the wheels fall off ,its fine to support a team win or loose but to not say anything when they are playing like lost school boys who have never seen a football is to deem it acceptable, when it is not acceptable of a professional sporting body

I agree that there is a lot of ballast on their list. In particular, I've always heard people espousing the future greatness of Colin Sylvia, but he has never done anything to convince me that he'll survive at AFL level. Some of the real youngsters may have talent, but it's not going to manifest itself for a couple of years, i wouldn't have thought.

Too true. Colin Sylvia lacks the application to become an elite footballer. It may not do him too much harm to go back to the MFC that he's originally from. He wouldn't have to change his jumper, because the colours are exactly the same, but go back to the Mildura Football Club, who are also the Demons, is a great move. They have gone from easybeats to win their first flag in 25 years, have discipline and self-sacrifice in their game, and beat my team, Mildura Imperials, in one of the better games that i've seen at any level in the last few years. If he can get his head straight, then come back as a mature-age recruit, it may well do his game more good than harm, because he's going nowhere fast at Melbourne.

Maybe they will play even worse again Geelong. Surely the Cats will murder them. I think most teams will this year. Melbourne must have forgot how to play football in the off season.

I feel sorry for the D's, they are absolutely pitiful so far... i dont think u can blame it on the coach... they must qipe out pretty much there hole list, start from scratch and at least give the supporters something to cheer about..

They traded Johnstone for pick #14. If I'm right about that, they're clearly in youth policy mode, which can lead to bad seasons. Back when Carlton went recycled player policy in 2004, we won ten games; had we gone full youth policy in that year, we probably would have struggled to win even one - it would definitely have been the worst out of any of our rebuilding seasons, as all of our remnant 1990s players would have been gone, and only a bunch of young players with a coach who was bad at coaching young players would have remained. The point is that a youth policy instigated at the nadir of a team's capability will lead to a completely terrible season, and the Demons must hope that this is not what they're faced with.

Well before the Cats eat Melbourne alive and glue them to the bottem of the ladder I guess we can all remember back to what the Demons used to be like when they were once a great team.

The Melbourne football club should be ashamed. 2 rounds 2 floggings and next week this rabble must play the premiers geelong. It will be a slaughter, 200+ points easy. If they are in a rebuilding stage you wouldn't know it as they traded their best midfielder and retained a captain that is old as the hills and hasnt played a decent game of footy in years. Get rid of the dead weight pulling them down and start to rebuild not have a half assed go at it..

there isnt much more you can say about the last 2 weeks. sadly they play the reining premiers next week and to be honest they could be on the end of 30 goal flogging, it could happen. this time last year geelong put more than 30 goals on richmond. i wouldnt sack bailey, god there only 2 games into the season

the worst part is that with the inclution of the 2 new teams the dees might miss out on draft picks as they will be going to the new clubs. Hope they can get there act together soon.

I think its sad that one side can be so bad in relation to the rest of the competition. I like competitive footy and with teams like Melbourne at the moment its not good. However, as a cats supported we need a good thrashing to boost that percentage!

They got rid of Daniher cause his time was up and there was no premiership with him as coach. Can we blame new coach Baily for there terrable form? They just dont seem to have any good skills. the amount of times they miskicked the ball, dropped marks and completly stuffed up against the Bulldogs was stupid football.

they don't appear to be very good, do they? It was mentioned that Neale Daniher may have jumped off because he realised this was about to happen.
