Which players do you think are best value for money, who are the smokey's and which rookies do you think will rack up some points.

Rick Ladson is at a nice price providing he stays fit. Adam Cooney is also at a good price and should return to his 08 form.
A smokey is a 2nd year player from Port, Mitchell Banner. He's a ball magnet and should get more opportunties this year in the midfield.

Robert Warnock is a bargain for the ruck
Scott from Adelaide (Crows supporter), 2 Feb 2010 22:44hide comment reply to Scott's comment
Dangerfield is good value and should be a good consistant player. Iv picked Daniel Talia as a smokey and Jack Trengrove as quality rookie, hopefully they get enough games. Chris Knights at just over 300k is good value too.

Kerr is a bargain, as long as he doesn't lose his head.

Kerr is a bargain, but I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole, because he will lose his head, as there is still not much help for him in the middle.

not to sure about that I think that a few of the 2nd and 3rd yr midfielders will stand up this yr...Masten is cheap and could be worth a punt
Mark from Melbourne (Magpies supporter), 9 Feb 2010 10:17hide comment reply to Mark's comment
If he does lose his head his 97.88 points and a 50% loading on his next tribunal offence means he'll be gone. Not touching him in DT.
Jay (Hawks supporter), 6 Feb 2010 10:47, hide comment reply to Jay's comment
Players that hardly played last year like Charman, Robbie Warnock, Shaun Burgoyne, Daniel Kerr, Jack Ziebell, and Rick Ladson all look to be good value.
I think players that go under the radar like Nick Salter and Taylor Walker in SA could be of good value.

Taylor Walker, you are spot on. Liked his 2009 season, looks the goods. Was very surprised to hear name mentioned as a possible trade in the off season.

I hate to do it but I have looked at a few Pies like Swan but interested to know your views on Sidebottom and McCaffer who I believe could be big movers. Also do you select Rusling at his price or do you avoid him like the plague (like Gumbleton).

Guy (Magpies supporter), 6 Feb 2010 11:29, hide comment reply to Guy's comment
This is in fact my 1st serious attempt at Supercoach though my flatmate last year benefited very well from by suggestions. I'm a bit worried I might become a bit obsessed with it to be honest.

Sidebottom if good value should score well, he is one of the fittest players at Collingwood and I would think (hope) he follows up from an impressive finals series. With Luke Ball in the middle it should also take some pressure off him. Lets hope there isn't any case of 2nd year blues.

McCaffer I think will struggle to get a game in the 1st half of the year.

Rusling will be a great choice if selected as a backman/ forward as he spent the 2nd half of 09 in the VFL backline. Due to constant injuries it is hoped he will become a constant selection in the AFL this year. Hopefully it will work for him like it did for Mark Harvey. Loads of talent.

Ben Reid will be awesome value, break out year for him I think in his new role down back. Had an awesome VFL finals series and is good to go.

What about Hawks players??? Any tips??

I believe Hodge and Riolli will score more points as they will rotate through the midfield more this year.

Buddy is firing and not as expensive as many, should get better supply this year.

Jordan Lewis is fitter than ever and is a ball magnet, could go under the radar if teams focus on Mitchell, Burgoyne, Hodge and Riolli.

Rick Ladson is very cheap and is a good user, between him Ellis and Birchall I think they will play some very attacking football out of the backline.

Burgoyne is cheap after only playing 9 games last year, averaged 80pts though whilst injured. Joining main group now after being in the rehab group aiming for round 1.

I would like to have Liam Shiels in there but hard to see him pressing for a spot in the midfield.

Rookies to keep a lookout for are Ben Stratton and Carl Peterson.

Rick Ladson is great value and got a spot in my team, from collingwood medhurst is good value and even presti in the backline, in terms of $$$ is good value as well though he didnt make my side. Rhys Stanley for St kilda would be a steal on the bench if the saints get an injury to 1st string ruckman.
Jodie from Melbourne (Cats supporter), 6 Feb 2010 18:45, hide comment reply to Jodie's comment
Matt McGuire, Jamie Charman both bargains, one coming back from injury the other at a club that he will receive an opportunity. Also Tadhg Kennelly is really cheap and Gumbleton is supposedly off to a flyer at the Bombres.

Jodie I've got both McGuire and Gumbleton (his bad luck has to run out). I also try to find a young discarded player, this year I've got my sights on Jarryd Oakley Nichols. Yes he has struggled at the Tigers but he has never completed a full pre season. He is returning home to WA and therefore may be in a better frame of mind. Could be a big winner or at worst a $185k dud.

Mark from Melbourne (Magpies supporter), 10 Feb 2010 11:05, hide comment reply to Mark's comment
McGuire?? When he was at his peak he only averaged 50 odd in DT. Why would you pick a player who's not guaranteed a spot and if and when he does play will be lucky to give you a 50+ score? As for Gumbleton, he's done something else to his back yet again (He is the new Courtney Johns) and is way too risky to pick. Kennelly is THE value pick this year. Masten, Cotchin and Armitage will all gain value this year too.
Young discarded players? Consider Marcus Drum (209,500) and Simon Buckley (193,300) if they get games.

McGuire is only $114 k and Gumbleton $100K in Supercoach which is what I play. So I'd have a crack at these guys because they are basically rookie player prices. At those prices if McGuire plays I'll take 50 points as my emergency player rather than a rookie who might not play. Same for Gumbleton but I may offload him if he doesn't play NAB Cup. As far as discards go I've already got Drum. And I've got Cotchin he's a special.
I think others to watch are Henshell, N Krakouer, Malcheski, Raines, Medhurst and a fit Rob Murphy. I'll take your advice and check out Kennelly

Mark from Melbourne (Magpies supporter), 10 Feb 2010 20:54hide comment reply to Mark's comment
I got burnt by Hentschel and Raines last year so I'm not touching them again. Krakouer was good for me last year but he really dropped off in the 2nd half of the season so I was lucky to have upgraded him mid season. Medhurst is capable of a 90 average and is underpriced after last year's injury. He's fully fit at the moment, apparently, so could be worth a gamble. Malceski's in the same boat - he just hasn't been the same since the knee though. Who knows how he'll go this year. Robert Murphy's a gun. I reckon he'll benefit from Barry's arrival at the dogs. Hall will get the opposition's best defender and Johnson will get the next best you'd think. Murphy could take a lot of marks this year!
I reckon you should get on Armitage. Ball gone. Hayes injury concerns. Armitage averaged 97 over the 3 games he played last year and is coming into his 4th season with just 19 games played.
Kennelly averaged 80+ in each of his 4 seasons and is priced at a 60 average (320,000). Bound to make you some cash at least.

Agree with you on Rioli - he was one of my first picked - especially if he gets more time in the midfield. Keen to get a look at Melksham who will be playing NAB cup 1st round. He's definitely a 1st year player I'm considering. Swan's a gun DT'er but too expensive for my team. I'll wait a few weeks and hope his price comes down whilst a rookie makes me some money so I can trade up.

Just a tip, I think Rioli might be out first 1 or 2 games with groin soreness, those injuries are a little risky throughout seasons.

I reckon Xavier Ellis is a good buy at $305,000. He was ready to blossom last year after some brilliant performances at the back end of 08, in particularly the Grand Final but was struck down in 09 with constant injuries.
Another young player who I'm tempted to take a gamble on is Cale Morton at $386,000. His kick to handball ratio is high and does take plenty of uncontested marks which equates to big Dreamteam scores.
Brad Ottens at $239,000 is a bargain for a 2nd ruckman. Does get a high amount of tackles for a big man and kicks goals.

Nic Nat was a gun last night!! Don't know what he is worth but he is more and more becoming a necessary inclusion in my team, I am just not sure if it was a freak game or if he is a value buy....

Any thoughts?

He is definatley in my team, he runs and tackles and gets plenty of taps and will be playing more up forward when cox returns, gonne be a pretty awsome ruck combo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeh after the other nights display he's definately got a spot in my team. Him and Dean Cox in the ruck is a powerful duo.
Mark from Melbourne (Magpies supporter), 16 Feb 2010 14:32, hide comment reply to Mark's comment
He played well last night but he won't come up against a depleted ruck division like Essendon's very often if at all. Put Hille and Ryder up against him and he'll be found out. As far as DT scoring goes, any player who handballs 8 times more than they kick is someone to steer clear of. There's better value elsewhere than Nick Naitanui.

Hey Scott.
Thinking about Josh Hunt as a cheap back. What are your thoughts aboout this mate.Or are there another option due to his last injury being a knee. Cheap at $250 k

I definately put him in my team, great value and is bound to get touches with the way the cats backline work the ball around. Always risky taking an injured player coming back but sometimes worth the risk.
Jay (Hawks supporter), 14 Feb 2010 14:19hide comment reply to Jay's comment
I am not sure how much Liam Shiels is worth but he could be worth it if he can get regular games for the Hawks. Played last year as a 17 year old and against the Tiges he seemed to have all the time in the world. Some players just get the job done without the fan fare, I thought he played a much better game than Cotchin last night but the commentators love Cotchin.
