Season review so far
Ok the season is over for 5 teams West Coast, North Melbourne, Richmond, Fremantle and Melbourne. Whilst Carlton, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Sydney will be toughing it out in the next 9 weeks to try secure a spot in the 8. All though not guarenteed the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Brisbane, Adelaide and Essendon going on form look likely to take up spots in the 8 for September, those teams being the challengers for Geelong and St Kilda.

Gee Round 14, some big matches this weekend starting on Friday night with the Bombers taking on the Magpies at the G, the Lions travelling to Aami Stadium to take on the Power, the Crows should notch up their 6th straight win against the Tigers on neutral territory on the Gold Coast, Hawks with their season on the line will face an in form Bulldogs at Etihad, Swans to beat the Roos at the S.C.G. The Blues are playing a danger match against the Dockers at Subiaco with the Dockers winning the past 8 out of 9 clashes and the game that will have every AFL fan tuned into channel 7 at 2:10pm Sunday, The Grand Final preview with the 2 undefeated teams for 2009 the Saints hosting the Cats at Etihad Stadium, Sell out crowd expected. Wow what a game that will be!!!

Really Dan?????

The Saints have had a pretty good run with injuries. Played an out of form Bulldogs and a VFL sided Collingwood out of form riddled with injuries. Doesn't seem that likely to me though maybe that's cause I have a brain.

the only two real other threats at the moment are the dogs and the pies.
we have had the dogs number in the last few seasons, they have beaten us 3 times in the last 10 times we have played each other, although did beat us twice last season.

also the pies may be hot but like you said with stkilda earlier in the season who have they beaten?. the only team they have beaten in the 8 so far this season is the lions, and also there last 4 wins have been against teams either playing terribly poor football or teams that are rebuilding. although i suppose the next 5 games will show us were the pies are at so i wont really comment on them till they get through that.

We got lucky i suppose with when we have played teams that are contenders, but i think we have done enough to show we are a real good chance. So far we have met every challenge that has faced us and walked away victorious, and in most games convincingly. We have conceded the least amount of points and inside 50's, have won 13 games in a row (which is unheard of for the club) and the team seem to be playing for each other which is something we have failed to do in seasons gone by. But most importantly, when we have been challenged we have still come out on top. in the essendon, brisbane and carlton games.... in seasons gone by we would not have won those matches. im not trying to sound cocky or arrogant but there is something different about this side compared to the last few seasons. they have more passion and hunger to win.

Matt,

as always a balanced opinion.

Every team that has won their first 12 games has played in that years Grand Final. You don't need a brain to see that the most likely GF scenario this year will therefore be Saints vs Geelong. Anything can happen, but you can't infer that someone is brainless for predicting a St.Kilda Geelong GF! Otherwise you're saying all betting agencies are brainless!?

Mark,

there is no such thing as a grand final preview! Essendon in 1999 was miles better than Carlton yet lost by a point, yet all we heard about was North v Bombers. 2002 was meant to be a Brisbane v Port grand final. We are 1 game in from the half way mark of the season, form loss and injuries are bound to happen. A team such as St Kilda CANNOT have such a good run in the 2nd half of the season. How will they go with new players that haven't bonded as a team?? There has never been 2 teams get to this part of the season unbeaten so history is being set now, before when 1 TEAM was unbeaten at this point they made the grand final. Betting agencies are covering themselves, don't read anything in that.

Guy you're an idiot, the 2 sides are miles ahead of the competition, and at 13-0 Collingwood wont be there face it, Collingwood aren't as good as everyone thinks. Didn't you lose to Essendon???

Simple Simon,

do you really think I take to much notice of your thoughts?? You post crap, who hid last year after Geelong lost the grand final then posted sooky threads?? We didn't lose to Essendon, a poor umpiring decision cost us the game and before you go on about that, there have been 30+ similar decisions since and every one has been paid a mark. When we played Essendon we weren't in form. The season still has a long way to go, St Kilda and Geelong aren't that far ahead of the comp, an injury here or suspension there. Let's face it Mooney and Hawkins aren't exactly in form are they??? Blanket Johnno, be aggressive with Chapman and Byrnes and you have no forward line. Even the back half will struggle against Kosi and Riewoldt this week if they play to 100% of their capacity. Let's face champ, Geelong have over the last 20 years tripped over their handbags when faced with pressure, its building right now and will be crack a jack come grand final day. They wouldn't want to be remembered as the greatest team in the H+A for 3 years and only have 1 flag would they??? Trip Trip Trip.

Werent you the one that started a thread last year that umpires dont cost you games???huh?? and geelong and st.kilda are miles ahead at the moment u cant argue otherwise. Personally i think Collingwood are the ones that have tripped over the past 20 years as they havent even won a flag...now thats tripping CHAMP. Dont u think what u post up here Guy is crap???

I love how much I get to you Scott though now it's Scotty. You go into all of these threads looking for my comments just to abused me, what your sister not home?? Collingwood has won a premiership in the last 20 years so what are you on, should have won at least 2 bar the AFL allowing Brisbane an extra 1.8 million in their salary cap over their 3 peat. Get ya facts straight loser.

LOL you havent gotten to me yet Guy I just call it how it is champ. I read these threads to take in normal peoples comments and see all this crap u post and feel inclined to tell you as you tell others. I used the 20 year comparison because you used it in reference to geelong. And once again excuses excuses salary caps blah blah...

No Scott, I do get to you! As soon as I leave a post you respond no matter what it is or what's it about. What are you going on about the 20 year reference and Geelong?? I have some idea but hope you aren't on that track as it shows you know so little. The salary cap isn't an excuse, 1.8 million over 3 years was effectively there star studded backline but again, not much point making sense to someone who has shown he knows little.

As Mark said, its a term they use every year in hype of a big match that looks likely to be a Grand Final. You started this argument by saying I was on drugs. You have nothing better to do than belittle people on here, as for me not being a passionate supporter well you don't even know who the **** I am!!!!!!!!

So I dont support Collingwood Hey!!!

I'll tell you what passionate is, passionate is travelling 100km 11pm at night (Gold Coast to Brisbane)to get a place ticket only to line up with it the next day at the Gabba for 8 hours in 30 degree heat to get grand final tickets two years running and paying $700 for a return flight and GF ticket. Sticking it out with the boys/club at Victoria Park after losing consecutive Grand Finals, not changing teams when moving interstate like half of the Brisbane Lions Bandwagon supporters did, Attending the Anzac Day clash every year, attending the 2007 PRELIM final, flying to Collingwood away trips: Aami Stadium/Subiaco/Telstra Stadium/ yearly Gabba games, attending Collingwood Family Days and Collingwood training, buying Memberships and yearly merchandise. Sitting there to the final Siren when they've just been flogged, Not to mention having Ron Mc Ewan as a coach down in Eltham playing for Lower Plenty Football Club. YOU GET THE POINT GUY or should I list more. BLACK AND WHITE FOREVER.

Nah Brad,

all good, just don't say St Kilda v Geelong is the grand final preview when Collingwood is going to give it 1 massive shake, to me that smells of being disloyal. You said in a private message you should have put POSSIBLE and I'm glad. Nothing rubs me up the wrong way then that of a disloyal supporter. Looks like I was wrong in this case, enjoy it doesn't happen much!!!! LOL

It's just an Article Guy, you don't have to be an ass and say am I on drugs. I follow footy because I am passionate about it. The way I have followed the Saints and Cats this year to me suggests that I think these two teams are the premier sides of the comp. All I see from you Guy is having an argument with every supporter that has a suggestion/opinion. So if you think you are the Mike Sheehan of the footy forum..... well YOUR NOT!!! NO SUCH THING AS A GRAND FINAL PREVIEW says Guy!!! Well obviously you didn't watch last season too closely when everyone was boasting about the Round 17 clash with Headlines suggesting it was going to be "THE GRAND FINAL PREVIEW".

July 25, 2008
Geelong 12.16 (88) def. Hawthorn 11.11 (77),

just to refresh your brain Guy> and guess what Guy this is what happened in the Grand Final:

September 27, 2008
Hawthorn 18.7 (115) def. Geelong 11.23 (89)
No one likes you Guy, not even Collingwood supporters.

There is no such thing as a grand final preview Brad. Last year's round 17 clash was billed as a possible grand final preview, worked out it was in hindsight. No one can say it's a preview as no one knows. It's a potential preview. Sorry for pointing out your lack of thought processes in what you dribble.

It is you that is the fuc'kwit Brad. The Saints have had everything go with them this year, playing sides out of form and injury riddled, not facing either of last year's premiers until round 14 at least.

You speak as one Collingwood supporter so don't say you speak for the ALL. You speak as if where in primary school and I would care. Ha Ha Ha

I was passionate about your mother once Brad, then she got hooked on the drugs and was known as a "bike".

Guy, I appreciate that you're passionate about Collingwood as are all supporters on these discussion boards, but you can be passionate, have an argument or discussion without resorting to abuse in the form of calling people brainless, being on drugs, or basically calling family members sl^ts! Be civil about it for all Collingwood supporters sakes!
You're being pedantic about the use of "Grand Final Preview". Obviously nobody is using that term as a statement of fact. It's used every year in referring to a game between two teams that have a high probability of playing off in the GF. It was used last year in reference to the Haw vs Geel game and sure enough the probability turned into actuality in the last week of September didn't it? It doesn't mean it will happen again but it also doesn't mean that in referring to this week's game as a GF preview that Collingwood (or the Bulldogs or Adelaide or any other team in the eight) don't have a chance either. Don't get carried away with your pro-Collingwood views to the detriment of common sense. Relax. Save your vitriol for those who truly deserve it like that poster boy for the illogical and brainless - Greg from Perth.

Who is to say that the Western Bull Dogs won't make the grand final. Have you lost faith in Collingwood already. Anyone in the top 8 can go all the way. Nothing is set in concrete yet. Season isn't over.

I agree with Guy.

Scott (Blues supporter), 1 Jul 2009 23:56hide comment reply to Scott's comment
I think Tarrant is right, not only with the Bombers though.
Too many of the other sides are too inconsistent, either through form, injury, luck or list management.
At the end of the day, the Cats are proven performers, and the Saints have shown so far they are worthy contenders for the flag.
Brad and Mark, it must be kind of frustrating having a "fellow" supporter not only savagely pay out on you, but contradict himself so much while doing so.
I bet he's very short.
Good luck with the Bombers this week, hope you run harder than we did.
Scott from Adelaide (Crows supporter), 5 Jul 2009 16:17hide comment reply to Scott's comment
After just two quarters of footy i think its pretty safe to say geelong vs saints is the grand final preview. The skill level and ferocity of both teams is just far superior to any other side iv seen this year. I tipped saints to win and judging by geelongs effort so far they look a little shell shocked as they havent played a quality side all year. My bet is these to teams will meet each other in the GF
