I think the reason behind interstate dominance is simple. They have 11 home games against travelling opponents which is a distinct advantage. Yes they do have to travel the following week but they already pretty much have their 11 wins already sewn up, all they have to do is get an away win here or there against a struggling team and Bang they are in the finals. You could hardly say Essendon vs Carlton at the G' gives any team an adavantage

I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER SEE SOMEONE SAY THE MOST OBVIOUS THING EVER!!!
About time someone did, well done Leigh.
This is why im sick of people saying Collingwood never travel and **** like that, are we suppose to play Essendon at AAMI Stadium?
Interstate teams have a massive advantage when it comes to home games compared to the Vic sides when they play another Vic side.

wat ppl are refering to there is that wen u play the interstate teams, most of the time collingwood get the home game instead of playin away against them.

Well we played WCE, Sydney, Bris, Adel away last year. This year we go to Bris, Syd, Port and Freo. Im not sure how you can make it any more fair. Every Vic team does the same thing or they play in SA twice and dont have to go to 1 of the other states
1 reply hide reply
Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 18 Mar 2008 15:19 hide comment
no, i was pointing out wat ppl say.
and to make it more fair. 30 round seasons, everyone palys everyone home and away.

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 18 Mar 2008 15:33 hide comment
ur right, the only way to make it fair to play everyone twice but i doubt this will ever happen. Hey i would be in favour of scrapping the NAB Cup and starting the season early so this could happen

the afl are to stubburn to change this... i dont see how tehre such traditionalists yet they willingly change the rules at the end of each season n things like that.

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 18 Mar 2008 15:50 hide comment
thats right. i found it funny the other day i saw Demetriou say that he is not a fan of changing things for the sake of it in regards to the priority pick. Man im not sure if he was listening to himself speak cause if he did he would realise how much of a tool he is. Someone should hang him and boy wonder (Anderson).
If this was the case then why have they ruined our game with all these pathetic rule changes

Leigh from Melbourne (Cats supporter), 19 Mar 2008 11:09 hide comment
I agree with what you say about Demetriou and boy wonder they are tools!
Did anyone see what Gerrard Healy wanted them to look at next, limit the amount of successive chain of handballs allowed! What the hell??? Give me a break

What's next? your not allowed to man up on Chris Judd because the game may suffer if he is stopped from strutting his stuff.

well he was 1 of about 7 players that were to get preffered treatment cause they play the ball if u remember lol.
Anthony from Springvale (Magpies supporter), 18 Mar 2008 22:06 hide comment
Each season, Collingwood play a game in Sydney, Perth and Adelaide. Every second year we also play in Brisbane. It is not our fault we don't have to sell our HOME games to be played interstate. That is only the problem for the poorer Victorian clubs.
Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 10 Mar 2008 17:22 hide comment
hey emma...
eagles onli won the flag because of a victorian...
ull learn that this season while hes playing for the pov navy blues.

after all... interstate teams hnave won wat... 9 grand finals? wonder y

Hey Matt...
Chris Judd is only one player he doesn't make up a whole team. He may be a great player but that wont help if the rest of the team are crap. I guess we'll see that this year.

tevs
judd was ur best player and a good leader. thats y u guys won.

anyway... the afls origions are from the vfl anyway. the vfl expanded into the afl slowly...

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 18 Mar 2008 12:18 hide comment
Im pretty sure Embley got the Norm Smith that day so it wasnt Judd who won them the game. Glass was awesome in defence as well.
Judd was never the WCE, Kerr is a better player then Judd, yes i said Kerr is better. Throw in Fletcher, Braun and then Cousins back then and it was EASY to say WCE were not Judd
Stephen from Blacktown, 16 Mar 2008 8:48 hide comment
Gee there's some mixedup supporters out there.Firstly Geelong did beat West Coast last year. (You better look that one up) Secondly the AFL gets all it's money from the interstate teams and the AFL is more popular than it ever has been in it's whole history since it introduced the interstate teams. Victorians just have the poops because interstate teams have been winning the flag since 2001.Geelong broke the draught.

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 17 Mar 2008 6:36 hide comment
lol.... offcourse its more popular in its whole history since it introduced insterstate teams... otehr wise it would be the VFL... not AFL.
Wayne (Cats supporter), 16 Mar 2008 16:23 hide comment
I think that WCE was referred to by Emma as beating the Cats twice in grand finals. But seeing as that doesn't matter anymore with the record breaking cats winning the most recent GF in record breaking style after a record breaking season, WCE can look forward to their 2nd or 3rd season since '87 OUT of the finals (and into rehab, carlton, eddie mcguire's bed etc...).
David from Adelaide (Crows supporter), 14 Mar 2008 20:49 hide comment
The victorians think its still the vfl but where does all the $ come from???? which 2 sides have the highest memberrs???get rid all same of the victorian clubs so interstate clubs & so called afl pay them $'s to keep them alive!!!

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 15 Mar 2008 17:05 hide comment
lololol
2 states with 2 teams in them.
melbourne has 9 teams. that means that every team has 8 others to compete with in membership, where as the eagles and adeliade onli have 1, and dotn forget both west coast and adelaide were the onli 2 clubs in those states for atleast 5 years.
so if were talkin bout money comin in... each of the victorian clubs have atleast 25,000 n if u average it off probs around 28,000. so that is atleast 225,000 members in victoria compared to ur 90,000. pretty sure ur talkin outta ur asshole mate.

All of the money the AFL poured into the interstate teams can't have hurt them, you must have missed the deal the AFL offered the roos to move interstate, they could have done a hell of a lot with that. My point is that interstate teams have had a few leg ups from the AFL over the last 10, 15 years.

And what the hell are you talking about saying that the Eagles beat them twice, Geelong won by like 40 pts.

Gavin (Magpies supporter), 13 Mar 2008 5:23 hide comment
You might have a point but your stupid comment about eagles beating geelong twice doesn't mean **** as geelong won the comp!

1 reply hide reply
Emma (Eagles supporter), 24 Jan 2008 7:37 hide comment
Excuse me.. I support the player, I dont support the drugs.

Can he play football? YES, is he good at it? YES,

should he have done drugs NO, should he still be playing Afl? in my opinion not at the moment.

Does everyone make mistakes? yes but everyone has the right to redeem themselves in my opinion.

As for being mature, dont try to insult me with your asumptions of my character. Maturity comes with understanding and acceptance of people, something you are clearly lacking. Does that make you immature ? no, it makes you ignorant. Ignorant to the issue, Drugs are a result of an issue. An issue that no one know anything about, only Ben.

Anyway how many chances does one player get...how many times has he lied to his coach, officials and teammates...the supporters know jack **** and always will do

considering you are responding to people with just agression, I think you are the one who is easy to get going.

I agree that the system is a joke but you said in a post that supporters need to get their facts right, I dont see how you know more than anyone else following the medias information.

i agree with u 100% and im sick of people bagging ben. just think if he wasnt a footy player in the spot light no one would know and no one would care. his friends and family would be the only ones who know. not a whole nation. its bull****. and this ken magies supporter hero needs to get a life. the pies should be ashamed for having supporters like him. cant he just grow up and enjoy the game. geez.
keep at him then maybe he will realise how much of a fagg he is being.
ben is a great footy player and a even greater guy. i hope he gets to play in the WAFL. id go watch him every weekend. he is god on the field!!!

he'd certainly go up for a "draught" as well as some illegal substances that should have him banned from the game.....

the funny thing is, the only reason why people on the east coast care about ben cousins is because they'd love to have his football talent put to use over here. people are sick of hearing about all his saga's, no one cares about him and his drug abuse issues anymore. it was going to happen eventually, the news about him will stop and what will happen to ben then? he'll try to make it back through the ranks in footy, only to put eagles fans and their one-eyed support through the wringers again..................
he'd be better to become a hermit

Benny boy should go to Derby, Fitzroy Crossing, Muckinbuddin for 3-4 years and be an example to young kids what happens when your talented and a *uckin idiot....what a waste... we all have seen the best of what Benny has had to offer....he should consider himself lucky not to have a record, never mind having another go at "elite" level AFL...I'm sure that there are plenty of budding talented players that would respect the opportunity of playing at that level. NO tolerance is the message that needs to get out there. Ben is the result of tolerance by the Eagles....and every one has lost.

Emma, please get your facts right before posting lies on here!! Kicked our arse twice you say?? Thats interesting seeings we only played once and the mighty cats won by 39 pts
Hayley from Perth (Magpies supporter), 26 Feb 2008 17:42 hide comment
Melbourne .... who's that again??? Yeah Emma you would say that being an Eagles supporter cause here in Western Australia you dont hear about any other team apart from the West Coast Eagles. Dont get me wrong Im not a huge fan of the Dockers either but you hardly even here about them in the papers or on the news over here because everyone jumps on the bandwagon of the ****en eagles just cause they are doing better of the 2 W.A. sides. Maybe Emma have a good S.L.O.W read of your own post and realise that NO it isnt the VFL but it isnt the bloody WAFL either its the AFL!
Oh and yes you may have won a few Premierships of late but remember the finals last year at Subiaco oval, Collingwood V's Eagles and we wipped your arse. It still hurts doesnt it!
Austin (Bombers supporter), 26 Feb 2008 15:50 hide comment
I can't see any Non-victorian teams as genuine flag contenders this year... (Except for maybe the Kangaroos.. And are the Hawks technically Tasmanian now? That's what people would assume from looking at their jumpers..) Actually I take that back - the 'Roos are crap.

But Freo - no. West Coast? All their great players have left.. Except Kerr.. Sydney? I don't see it - same with Adelaide... And Port? They MAY be up there.. but that's also quite unlikely..

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 26 Feb 2008 13:58 hide comment
I agree Emma its the AFL, not the VFL although if you want to get techinical the records show it as VFL\AFL for premierships and awards.

In regards to Cousins he is one of my favourite players and i think he has been dealt with harshly. Drugs are wrong, thats the easy part but he never failed a drug test so how can you de-register him for bringing the game into disripute? He didnt have any illegal drugs on him in the car. AFL is a joke and made him into a scapegoat.

But back to the real agenda here, lets not get too carry away. Im not a Victorian but a couple of the VIC sides are very good and will end up challenging for it again. There is pretty much no chance of a Interstate team winning it this year.
Brisbane are a bottom 8 side, Sydney are too old, Adelaide are rebuilding, Port are scarred, WCE are on the decline and Freo are a tease.
Geelong, Saints and Pies for mine.
