St Kilda (post Grant Thomas) is incredibly over-rated.. Go on, try deny it!

I don't think Wells is over-rated.. Just inconsistent.

Lloydy's form has been quite poor recently, and I wish he'd just hand the captaincy over to McVeigh who - alongside Fletcher has been Essendon't most important contributor and on-field leader this season.

Christopher from Melbourne (Magpies supporter), 9 Jun 2008 16:36 hide comment
Wells is underrated in my view, he is a team player that isn't selfish. If he wants to reach the next level he needs to learn to be less of a team player and be more selfish. Mitchell I must also disagree with, he is a top clearance player and is quite underrated actually. The others are debaitable though, won't say either way.
Lance from George Town (Magpies supporter), 18 May 2008 0:53 hide comment
mattew lloyd is the most overrated player of the past decade

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 9 Jun 2008 16:06 hide comment
no way mate, Lloyd has been a excellent player, he has kicked over 800 goals!
u dont kick 800 goals and be overated. He is getting on now and the rules and the speed of the game has changed.
Kim from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 18 May 2008 13:16 hide comment
I would agree with this and maybe also could be named the worst captain in the league at the moment as Neitz is not playing?

Andrew from Melbourne (Tigers supporter), 18 May 2008 21:46 hide comment
hey forget neitz we have the worst captain at tigerland. I haven't met a tigers supporter yet that wants him as captain
Viva La Newman!

I cant believe u put sammy in there he is a superstar...better than foley!!! lol
Tarrant from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 18 May 2008 13:38 hide comment
I agree (from a position external to Essendon) that he is a poor captain. I have never felt that he had a good onfield presence, and see Lucas as a better alternative. Although waning in his career, I wouldn't call him overrated as a player.

Nick from Melbourne (Bombers supporter), 18 May 2008 20:59 hide comment
You're correct in that Lloyd isn't the best captain, not sure if Lucas would be a better choice though, I've always felt that midfielders (or at least someone who gets moved around the field a bit) make the best captains, purely because their presence is felt all over the ground. Unfortunately that's an area in which Essendon is severely lacking consistent talent, so at the moment I'd say he's the best we've got.
1 reply hide reply
Steve from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 19 May 2008 0:16 hide comment
I 100% agree about a midfielder (or player who is moved around the ground) being captain. A full forward should not have to worry about captaining the whole side, he should simply put all his energy and effort into setting up and kicking goals.

I do think captaincy does effect Lloyds game negatively. Maybe the Bombers should look at picking three young deputy captains (not Lucas or Fletcher). Good way to identify the true captain amongst the group.

1 reply hide reply
Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 21 May 2008 10:27 hide comment
off course it effects lloyds game. wen essendon start struggling lloyd, being captain, feels compelled to move further up the ground to try n get the ball into the forward line more often. lloyds best in the goal square.

i reackon they should make either jobe watson or hille captain. watson because maybe some pressure on his performance through captaincy mite make him a better player, and hille because he just looks like a born leader in the middle.

Kim from Melbourne (Bombers supporter), 18 May 2008 22:05 hide comment
I'd say the last 5 years. Gone are the days where he bags 8+. Players who play great footy from the start of their career seem to burn out (think Aaron Davey and Judd). Still great players, but Judd has even admitted he doesn't think he's playing his best. The fact some of these players get rushed back after an injury doesn't help.

McVeigh will be next captain, although it may not be until Lloyd retires.

Christopher from Melbourne (Magpies supporter), 8 Jun 2008 15:53 hide comment
1. Matthew Richardson (how can he top 5 favouties for brownlow? He's good but not that good!)
2. Aaron Davey (Crap this year under new coaching style)
3. Fraser Gehrig (Has had it, finished)
4. Cameron Mooney (Horrible in all star game, worst on ground and certainly not all australian standard)
5. Jason Akermanis (Well, he overrates himself, on a good day on of the best in the competitiion but since the last grand final he was in has lost it.)
6. Matthew Lloyd (Looked incredible early last year before injury, but this season not living up to what Tony Lockett considered "the last 1000+ goal kicker)
7. Cameron Ling (Tuff, but not all australian as he is considered, far from it!)

Kristy from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 8 Jun 2008 18:45 hide comment
Jason Akermanis, 6 goals 4 today, check out his stats he's equaling his brownlow year how can you say he has lost it? Admittedly he wasn't the full package last year, but he wasn't all that well having dropped 8 kilos and coming off injury. This year he's bulked back up and playing like the Aker of old. How does he over rate himself? He seems pretty grounded and realistic in his public views. You need a player like him at the Magpies.
Matt (Eagles supporter), 7 Jun 2008 13:42 hide comment
what about russell robertson, yeh he can take a speccy mark and kcik goals but he is very inconsistent

scott west - he may average like 20 touches a minute but his disposal is poor and most of his touches are handballs when hes not under pressure

im also not sure how you could ever but mooney in that list, he is a pretty good player, kicks heaps of goals and is pretty consistent

Jade (Cats supporter), 2 Jun 2008 14:26 hide comment
nick dal santo....slow, soft as ****e and just boring to watch ...

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 4 Jun 2008 17:44 hide comment
glad ive got the over rated dal santo playing for us.

heres another one for over rated(and im not just saying it coz ur a cats supporter, and i reackon a few ppl would agree with me). cam mooney, anyone could play as good as him with a midfield like geelong have. if nathan ablet comes back u should paly him CHF, hawkins FF and mooney in the reserves.

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 2 Jun 2008 8:41 hide comment
Dale Thomas is on fire!!!!!!
Keep it up lad, starting to show how good he can be.
Joshua (Hawks supporter), 30 May 2008 21:02 hide comment
Sam Mitchell hahahahaha, this better not be u Mitcham lol, Sam Mitchell is one of the games best, and he is such a great bloke by getting himslef reported so Richo could win a brownlow in his last year of AFL footy. The rest are perfect but i would replace mitchell with either Glen Archer or Barry Hall
Andy from Melbourne (Bombers supporter), 30 May 2008 17:04 hide comment
I dont think that Sam Mitchell is overrated he has to be 1 of the best midfeilders in the afl.My most overrated player goes to Jobe Watson you always hear essendon supporters and people saying he gets 30posys a game his a gun!! not so those 30 possy r mostly handpass's and i dont think he's even kicked a goal this year, for a leading midfeilder thats shocking!!
Kym from Gawler (Crows supporter), 29 May 2008 23:30 hide comment
Dont think I would have Dale Thomas in that group

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 30 May 2008 10:41 hide comment
not really. im happy with stkildas midfield.
lenny hayes and luke ball arnt letting the team down, number 1 and 2 for takles in the AFL and also both up there in the top 5 or 6 players for contested possesions. robert harvey is still playing his heart out trying every game.
dal santo and monty are lettin the team down atm with some poor games. also we havent got the run out of the backline.
Nick from Melbourne (Bombers supporter), 27 May 2008 22:15 hide comment
Can't forget the Fev, I swear, he must be one of the most hot and cold players out there. Not to mention one of the biggest sooks.
Katherine from Frankston (Bulldogs supporter), 26 May 2008 15:48 hide comment
the saints forward line, the hawks in general and the pies. you can also say the cats in there

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 26 May 2008 17:50 hide comment
Brad Johnson's kicking for goal? bahahahahahahaha

You say the Hawks, Cats and Pies in a whole are overated? wow lets hope the Doggies dont fade away like last year or this post could come back to bite you

Kristy from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 26 May 2008 22:47 hide comment
Honestly though what are the odds of him kicking two posters and missing a goal after the siren again? I know I'm bias and all that but I feel really sorry for him, for all his hard work and effort, and then to finish like that, and it's not like he hasn't saved our asses on more than a few occasions. He usually has no problem kicking those goals, and besides he plays with more pride for his colors than any of your collywobblers ;-p

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 27 May 2008 10:46 hide comment
I was going for the dogs so i was spewing he missed, love BJ.
Im not going to say who plays with more pride cause i respect BJ and what he has done for the Dogs but players like Scott Burns cant be underestimated when considering who plays for their team with pride.

Kristy from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 27 May 2008 17:48 hide comment
I know, he's doing a great job as captain so far. I was absolutely wrapt to see the Pies flog the S*IT out of the Cats. Not that I have a problem with the Cats but, I was hangin for them to drop a game. Plus it won me a nice dividend in a multi.
1 reply hide reply
Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 27 May 2008 18:05 hide comment
DONT TALK TO ME ABOUT MULTIS!!!!!! lol
had a pick 4 with Priddis mst touches in the WCE game which he got, Richmond to win under 39.5pts which they just did, then i needed J Brown and L Franklin to kick mst goals in their games. Brown drew with Bradshaw and Franklin drew with Holland and Williams so instead of a $10 bet paying $411 i ended up getting a return of $54.11 lol.
i was spewing.
1 reply hide reply
Kristy from Melbourne (Bulldogs supporter), 27 May 2008 19:45 hide comment
Heah at least you still got 54.11. Most weeks I've missed out on my multi by a matter of points, and the bloody Doggies stopped me from raking in a pick 8 which paid 2,000 this week. DAMMIT, and B4 the game Sunday I was asking people at the Pub who they thought was gunna kick the first goal, all I could think was Wil Minson, 4got to place the bet he was paying $18 bucks or sumthin. Was gunna chuck 10 bucks on him. DOUBLE DAMMIT ;-)
Katherine from Frankston (Bulldogs supporter), 26 May 2008 20:00 hide comment
No one rates the dogs any way. the dogs are always underdogs. brad johnson just had a bad game like every other player does. Johson is a better kicker then Rocca and some of your other goal kickers.
2 replies hide replies
Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 27 May 2008 10:44 hide comment
i rate the dogs, im only taking the piss cause u said 3 entire sides that have finished higher then the dogs the last few years are overated.
Rocca isnt a good quick at goal but i would take Paul Medhurst kicking for ur life over anyone else. Absolute gun kick for goal
Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 27 May 2008 10:35 hide comment
if the dogs do good in the next 4-6 weeks... then they are a genuine threat.
the have hawthorn, a srsly out of form stkilda, brisbane, adelaide and port adelaide and then melbourne(who arnt looking to bad at the moment) then geelong and carlton.

so if the dogs manage to win atleast 4 of those game they ahve a chance to finish in the 8. if they dont i dont think they will be a threat. u ahve to admit u havent had the hardest run yet. and have got lucky a few times i mean richmond deserved to winn that game against u guys, u got lucky against adelaide in round 1 with bock stuffin up and johnson kicking those 3 quick ones at the end.

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 27 May 2008 17:51 hide comment
wouldnt be talkin up the doggies to much yet. they got a hard 2 months ahead of them. after there nexdt 6-8 games we will see if they are pretenders or the real deal.

i like the doggies, 3rd fave team behind the saints n kangas. i also love brad johnson and i reackon that he is easily the most important playewr in ur team.

Matt from Warrnambool (Tigers supporter), 26 May 2008 20:57 hide comment
Luke Ball, Dale Thomas, Cam Mooney (Scarlett made him look like a joke in All Stars game), Matthew Lloyd and Danyle Pearce.

Nick from Melbourne (Bombers supporter), 26 May 2008 20:23 hide comment
Only if you're going by the praise from he's recieved in the last 3 years. I don't really think anyone is overrating him in his current form.
1 reply hide reply
Katherine from Geelong (Cats supporter), 26 May 2008 20:27 hide comment
eveyone goes on about how wonderful is is-like he's a god or something. There are so many better players than he was, is or will ever be
1 reply hide reply
Nick from Melbourne (Bombers supporter), 26 May 2008 20:35 hide comment
He WAS an absolutely brilliant player, they got it absolutely right when they awarded him the Brownlow. This season however he really hasn't gotten all that much praise with the exception of some high expectations early on from Blues fans, but even they realise that he's out of form.

If he was still recieving the praise that he was 2 years ago, then I'd say definitely overrated, but the fact is that he's just not rated as highly this year. How can you call someone overrated when nobody rates them to begin with?

Ryan from Kilimanjaro (Hawks supporter), 26 May 2008 18:27 hide comment
Andrew do you watch the football at all?
