The origin of the name 'Bluebaggers'
Now, have you ever wondered where the name Bluebaggers originates from? Well, it appears that when times where tough (very much like they are today) the players would help out at the local supermarket bagging the groceries, hence the name Blubaggers evolved.....It's a true story. So Carlton supporters, in the future when Bluebaggers is just too much of a mouth full, scream out Bag Boy’s…they will know where your heart is.

Bagger is an unofficial title given to courtesy clerks at supermarkets. The primary duties of a bagger revolve around putting groceries into a bag and then into a shopping cart. Upon requests, baggers may take the groceries out to a customer's car or supply other forms of service. Some baggers in stores will do this unless the customer refuses and wishes to bring their own groceries out. Depending on the store, other duties may include cleaning the store, cleaning the bathrooms, collecting carts, sweeping the store, fixing and maintaining the bottle recycling machines, giving customer assistance, putting items customers initially intended to purchase but changed their mind about at the register back on the shelf (usually called "go-backs" or "back stock"), and reorganizing products on aisles to make a more neat appearance (commonly called "blocking", "facing" or "conditioning"). The duties vary vastly depending on the store and union regulations, and some of previous duties in fact, are actually prohibited from being done at some stores by a courtesy clerk due to union contracts. The title of bagger is the result of an extensive evolution of the position of "courtesy clerk". The title "bag boy" was adopted for some time, until it was finally shortened to "bagger".

obviously the name comes from the fact that like Geelong Carlton players have a peferance for fine hand crafted leather handbags hence the name bluebaggers

look, that's obviously bollocks. research the Newtown Blues of the NSWRL (now NRL) and you'll find they were also called 'bluebaggers.' i don't know the exact origin of the term, but you're talking rot and nobody is remotely convinced, imbecile.

Dorkers and their Anchor. The Anchor is the symbol of their "club". Other than it being a negative symbol, it was chosen primarily because of the type of supporter they wanted to attract.. a W A N K E R as their were so many of them in Freo the anchor was a popular choice.
