SAINTERS WILL DOMONATE!
I think this year is the sainters year we will win the nab cup and then go on to win the premiership. With the young guns we have (Armitage, Jones, R Clarke etc)and the experience of Roo Dal G Harves etc and wen Matty Maguire comes back our backline will be as strong as ever . GO THE MIGHTY SAINTERS

the majority of stkilda list is 25-26 or under. players dont peak till there 27-28 usually. stkilda still has 3-4 years to deliver. stkilda have a great list. if they dont get a coach who knows how to coach an attacking team i doubt they will win the flag. imo gettin rid of grant thomas was the worst thing the club has done since gettin rid of stan alves... or hiring tim watson (take ur pick whihc was worse ). hopefully ross will prove me n many other doubters rong but i doubt it.

Not knocking your response Matt, but I think Rossy Lyon needs to bring in a "I play for the TEAM" mentality. Look at the past few premiers, Brisbane 01-03, Port 04, Sydney 05 and Geelong last year. They were champion teams, would do absolutely anything to support their team-mates - that seems to be missing at St.Kilda The Saints could be viewed as a team of champions, but not a champion team. Don't get me wrong I think that you have the list to win a flag, but the mental side of it is lacking.

I have to agree with you there Paul, St Kilda are the worst in the AFL for TEAM mentality. Lack of toughness in the side.

thats were losing hamill hurt us. sure its just one player but wen he was out there the rest of the team looked 10ft tall. he was a leader. bakers a bit the same. but that is wat were missing and i dont think a game plan were no-one knows wats going on helps though.

I rate the saints but when the pressure is on too many times their top midfielders go missing, add to that some of their players need work in the gym Geelong beat them up and other side will follow now.

You are talking out your arse mate! Soley through virtue of the umpires did the Saints make it to the NAB Final - Without your 10 free kicks to our 1 in the last quarter you'd have stayed 20 odd points behind! I know, only a practice game. But so far the Saints have only dominated against Richmond was it.. or Melbourne.. A crap team either way. Though congrats on picking up Schneider - he'll be your best player this season.. And Harvey is a champion. One of the few St. Kilda players worthy of respect. 37. You'd be very lucky to make the finals with the list you've got. But it's not about that anyway, I'm sure you've already paid off the umps for enough free kicks to get you through.. And maybe the Bronlow for good measure..

r u talkin about wen monfies jumped on the ball... it came loose n he gatherd it again, then armatige tackled him, along with 3 bombers players trying despretly to keep the ball in? is that the free? essendon will strugle this year, they have a non-existant midfield.

Yeah. The time Monfries held it in was definately a free. No argument against that one. When Essendon players landed perfectly legal tackles, causing St. Kilda defenders to either illegally/incorrectly dispose of the ball (normally earning a free kick) whilst in our attacking 50, or when St. kilda players held the ball in in similar circumstances as Monfries', they weren't penalised. What about the 50m Penalty against P. Ryder for crossing the mark, resulting in a supergoal, when - while counting out the steps - the ump confessed to Ryder that he didn't give him a chance to get out of the way, and that it was a mistake.. All clearly audible over the TV broadcast, no less..

ur one of the onli essendon fans i no that has admited it to being a free. as for the 50's... the umpires have absolutly no consistancy with them. its crap. and the game times of harvey hayes and dalsanto were all 40% for that match, while luke ball didnt play the first half and was chucked onto the forward flank wen he did play. saints midfield for that game were the yungsters geary and armatage and also monty and shnider for the most part. thats stkildas 2nd tier... back up palyers.

Either way it was a good, fun match to watch! Sure, I know none of your players are really at their peak yet.. But neither is ours - or any one elses' yet! We'll see how things go when the real stuff starts! Some people think that we should scrap the whole Pre-Season comp and start playing Home and Away Games earlier... I do think it's a good time for teams to try the younger guys and experiment with set ups and all when winning isn't as important as it is in the regular season... But I also wish th eseason was longer!
Austin (Bombers supporter), 13 Mar 2008 0:25hide comment
Oh snap! I forgot to say that our 'non existent' midfield, while missing our fastest player, surely creamed yours in the NAB cup match! Despite losing the vast majority of clearances we caused so many turnovers and mistakes to your 'elite' midfield that only the efforts of the Umpires kept you in the match!

I would have rated the Saints higher if they hadn't wasted their time & energy winning the cursed cup. Good luck to the Saints for this year because there list is pretty good.
Austin (Bombers supporter), 10 Mar 2008 18:37hide comment
Actually I'll vouch for Jones - he did damn well in a couple of NAB matches.. Not certain if he'll cut it under AFL season pressure though...
Tarrant from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 8 Mar 2008 13:54hide comment
I still don't think the lower end of your top 22 is good enough. Not this year, anyway. In a couple of years, those guys you mention (I've never even heard of Jones, incidentally), could form a pretty good periphery. But will the old ruckmen that you've been trading for still be competitive then? I somewhat doubt it.
Josh from Carrum Downs (Bombers supporter), 8 Mar 2008 11:56hide comment
preseason games mean nothing, they are practice matches... as for the season proper and winning the premiership. Saints may dominate the season, but we all know that Saints are chokers when it comes to september, history tells us that... the only flag they won was by only just tripping over the line by one point... funny to see the saints bandwagon out in full force, lets see you in september...
