When push comes to shove for the Bombers
Bombers are ****. Pre-season means nothing. We'll see when push comes to shove!

that was a great game to watch last night but it was quite easy to see how Geelong smashed Essendon last week, they have no defence. I must say in the last quarter with the game on the line Carlton got robbed a decision. Some Essendon player tried to take a unlrealstic attempt at a mark and didnt get a touch on the ball and it should have been called a free to Carlton then the ball goes over the pack and Essendon run on and kick a goal to make it 3 goals diff and game over. I will never stick up for Carlton again. Great game though from both sides.

Still don't know what a **** fog is.. But I do know that Essendon beat Carlton!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we just saw when push came to shove for Essendon. I liked what I saw.

Bombers were great in the Nab Cup. They have some exciting new players to keep an eye on this season. They just fell short of beating the Saints and some on the umpire decisions didn't go there way in the last quarter. There could be a good season ahead for the Bombers in 2008.
Tarrant from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 8 Mar 2008 13:51 hide comment
I haven't watched them closely, but I don't generally rate the Bombers' young list. Not yet, anyway. I can see promise in a lot of the guys, like Nash and Dyson, but I would be very surprised if this is the year when they find their form. I'm just not sure whether the current young guys could actually form the core of a championship team. But, I haven't been watching them much, and Essendon fans will certainly have seen things in them that I haven't seen.

We all watch our own teams more than anyone elses' though.. But as far as Essendon goes, I've seen a lot to be optimistic about! Not just the individual players, which have impressed me more than i'd expected, but the difference in game plan.. If we keep to the style of play we've shown in the NAB cup, and keep at it even when we don't win, I'm going to be a much happier member.

The last few season's I've been tearing my hair out with the slow, monotonous way we'd been playing, I just got so sick of it when our players passed the ball to stationary targets... Now it's all been run and pass to other running players, getting the ball to our forwards quickly, hopefully before the opposition have time to make them all 3-on1 contests..

The main downside right now is the lack of experience and fitness in our younger players.. Our quickest player, Winderlich, is out for another month I think.. And if Davey had the endurance to play in the midfield for a full game.. that would be AWESOME! To me he seems to have a sense of awareness and passing skills similar to Hirdy's, but in a much faster body.. And we all know he can play!

Our defence is.. It's great. Last season we only had more entries into our forward 50 than our opposition on 2 of the 22 games we played, but we still won a lot of those games. Mal Michael and Ryder wll be better this year, Ramanauskas is such an intelligent player, and the strength and skills of McPhee will work to minimise the oppsition's scoring opportunities..

Basically I just want us to play more competitive football.

I know we were out of the top 8 last season, but I realistically think that we were good enough to win many of the close encounters we had (the losses by less than 12 points). And I don't just blame the umpires.

Wow. Replace "Essendon" with "Carlton" and a variety of Essendon players with Carlton players, and we've got rather similar aspirations for the year. I too am sick of Pagan's (read Sheedy) archaic 'kick it long' gameplan, and watching the boys running and handpassing more through the preseason - well, it doesn't always work, but that will improve with time, and you'll get better value for money than Saints fans will watching their team chip the ball around ad nauseum.

Our defence is on the rise, and we too lost plenty of games we were good enough to win - people ignore those and focus on the five weeks of hell leading up to Pagan's dismissal. Should be interesting.

carltons defence is there attack. waite and ohelphim. u sound like one of those carlton fans that thinks judd will make a difference. he was working with a class outfit at westcoast, as u will see this season wen they yet again finish top 4.
carlton wont be a force for atleast another 2 years yet, no matter how optimistic u are, there to young.

essendon are a good team, expect for the center. they need a foley, judd, cousins, hayes type player who can rack up the clearences.

and the saints havent been chippin the ball round lately... so we will see

Bulldust. The Saints played a boring NAB cup final, and will continue playing boring football because their coach is a boring man from an equally boring club. You sound like one of those Saints fans who thinks King will make a difference.

Nowhere have I said that I expect Carlton will be a force this year. And you'd be a fool if you didn't think Judd, and the return of Stevens, will be of some tangible difference to the club.

36 degrees and the crows were flooding. takes 2 to tango.
no-one is asking u to watch stkilda games. i went to one of the carlton matches and they just kick backwards.... its crap.

and no, i dont think king will make a difference, hes bound to ahve an impact, better player management will make a difference

judd will ahve a difference but he doesnt have the skill around him that he had at west coast. also i reackon some of the younger blues will be a bit judd concious.

Tarrant from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 12 Mar 2008 20:17 hide comment
It does take two to tango. Recent history tells us that Hawthorn, St Kilda, Sydney and Adelaide are the four choices for tango partners. Any game between two of these teams will be a snooze.

Agreed that there was better skill around him at West Coast, but more notably in the ruck than the supporting midfielders. Disagree with your unsubstantiated claim that younger blues will be judd-conscious; you've got no basis for that comment.

wen the stkilda players were younger they were to reiwoldt concious.
hawks younger players focused on buddy to much.

i spose judd will be different because he is in the midfield, but i think that he may be given a lot of posession because of his amazing skills.

stkilda have become piss poor in attack. from being such a force up forward in 2004 with 3 of our forward kicking 50+ and hamil not far behind.... to just gehrig and occasionally reiwoldt is poor. hopefully kozi can take some pressure of them this season

Tarrant from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 12 Mar 2008 21:11 hide comment
That's sort of valid, but being conscious of a forward is a lot easier than being conscious of a midfielder. I'd talk about being Fev-conscious, but the fact that he's been our only decent option clouds the validity of that argument.

Perhaps Schneider will be the creative half-forward flanker you need. Or Harvey - he's the best twenty metre kick in the game, according to some annoyingly repetitive commentators. They won't be as dangerous as Paul Chapman, but they can still stamp their influence.

Matt from Melbourne (Saints supporter), 12 Mar 2008 21:16 hide comment
charlie garnder is wat stkilda needed... a mid/tall sized forward that can mark and kick. schnieder will paly on the wing imo, harvey has been palyin of the flank for the last 2 years, well startin of it anyway.

and harvey does have a freakish 20-30m kick.... haha.

the probs with the blues is waite doesnt get fed as much of the ball as he whould. i think he is better then fev. waite at FF fev at CHF. carlton needed to recruit another tall forward... maybe ackland or cloke can drop into there once kruezer is settled

1 reply hide reply
Tarrant from Melbourne (Blues supporter), 13 Mar 2008 18:01 hide comment
waite would be a good CHF, but he had no choice but to play CHB through lack of options. Ackland won't play another game unless injujry provides a space. charlie gardiner will play scorpions; saints have no help in him

Austin (Bombers supporter), 13 Mar 2008 23:01 hide comment
I've been a bit of a fan of Waite.. He's a great talent and can jump a mile! He's great at CHF and with his leap and ability to read the ball could also be a fantastic FB.. He could easily hold down CHF too - and I can see him getting a few Bronlow votes this year..

Charlie Gardiner's an enigma - he could be good but I think the game's changed a hell of a lot since he played last that it'll take him a few months to adjust..

Daniel from Adelaide (Magpies supporter), 8 Mar 2008 8:13 hide comment
i find it funny that a carlton supporter is ripping into another team since they have a been a digrace the last 4 years or so.
Your right though, if preseason was anything to go by then Carlton would be the bext side in the comp going on winning 2 of the last 3 cups but then winning 10 games over 2 seasons lol.
1 reply hide reply
Josh from Carrum Downs (Bombers supporter), 8 Mar 2008 12:07 hide comment
ditto

preseason does mean next to nothing, but by the way blues fans were going on about it each time they won the preseason cup, you'd think it meant everything... quotes like "I reckon this is thhe season for us to win everything" and "we are the best team in the comp, because we haven't lost a (practice)game"

Carlton needs to start winning again without cheating for it to gain some respect back, which may take them a bloody long time...

I wouldn't expect a sentence like that to come from anyone other than a Magpies supporter. Congratulations on the correct placement of the apostrophe in "don't" though, that probably puts you ahead of the average Collingwood supporter. Having said that though, with the exception of the afforementioned apostrophe and the capital letter at the beginning, most of your post was pretty much unintelligible, I hear that this kind of stunted intellect can arise as a result from generations of inbreeding, you might want to inspect your own lineage before making accusations about others.

Oh, and just one question, it looks like you're trying to say that the father of the poster was his own brother (hence not having to work out who his Uncles are because he already knows his father). Care to explain this? Unless you're dealing with conjoined twins or maybe split personalities this would be quite a feat!

Have a brilliant day,
Nick

I don't feel the need to impress anyone with grammar, only to clearly convey a point. You might want to try it sometime, you'll find that your convoluted rants might make a bit more sense. You also might find that people take you a bit more seriously if you were to end your posts with something other than "GO PIES", it's little wonder that the Collingwood fanbase has such a bad name when it's endorsed by idiots like you.

Go read a book (start with Spot Goes to the Park if you have to), it'll serve you better than making an arse of yourself in public.

Yeah. Whatever. Just coz your team hasn't won anything but wooden spoons recently don't go hurling crap at teams that are close to success again.

Anyway if you're literate enough to read this, I think carlton will actually do good this season - not because of Judd - but because of Stevens and Waite.. And you got rid of Pagan finally - the reason you've been so unsuccessful recently is that none of your players were responding to him - I'm just suprised it took you so long to do something about it!

Jessica (Magpies supporter), 25 Feb 2008 23:21 hide comment
geez you blues supporters are really suffering fro a case of dementia arent you
