Why should we keep a lid on it?
One thing is for sure over the last few days. IM SICK OF THE "KEEP A LID ON IT" LINE FROM ALOT OF SUPPORTERS, ESPECIALLY DOGGIES SUPPORTERS.

Be fair, the best season ever and we have to keep a lid on it, starting the season having gained an average of three kilos throughout the whole team, top of the ladder going into mid year break, top scoring side so far this season, won the last 5 games and all interstate games, beaten every side in the top 8 (at least once), except Geelong who we havent played yet, arguably more in form players than any other side, namely Griffo, Coons, Murphs, Boydy, Gia, Mitch, Aker, Shaggy, Dale Morris, Brian, Dylan Addison, both Welsh and Hudson. Young guns like Hill, Higgins and Callan Ward to get excited about, Higgins should be back for the Melbourne game too.

Why should we keep a lid on it? Talk em up I say they deserve it!

All we need now is for Adelaide to beat Geelong this weekend and we can continue to enjoy top spot for another week.

i think you'd be stupid if you are not enjoying the moment- we've made the break with 1 Loss and 1 draw onLy the reigning premier sits higher than us on the Ladder and we're pLaying beautifuL footbaLL!
we've been caLLed the 'team of the season' in the media and we're in the position that on 'any given sunday' we can beat any opposition- the onLy thing that wiLL determine the champion wiLL be desire.
The boys wiLL be more than aware that these games mean nothing but points setting us up for finaLs! 'so what if we dont make the gf!' ...its aLL for nothing if we dont make the grand finaL!!
being second best team haLf way thru the season means nothing! its fantastic and trust me i'm Letting everybody know about how good we're pLaying- but its onLy so good because its a refLection of where we shouLd be at the end of the season! and from where we wiLL be Launching our attack to cLaim some siLverware! its aLL for nothing if we dont compete in the grand finaL! the job is not even haLf way done yet!

we're pLaying such good footy that its easy to get excited and why not enjoy the good times! -ceLebrate your victories in the battLes, but remember theres stiLL a war to be won

Thats a great analogy Joshua, and I do understand exactly where you are coming from. And in a way I wish I'd left the GF comment out of my post, cos really theres still 8 games to be played, I'd prefer to talk finals when we get there and it's the way we perform in the H&A season which will determine our finals hopes, so if it all accounts to nothing unless we make the GF why would anyone including yourself have any interest in games that aren't finals?
The season and how we approach it is everything, especially at the moment,

i see your point Kristy- beLieve me i am interested every time the dogs take the fieLd and i am enjoying winning every week... its a dream come true!! but at the end of the day aLL these games are worth are points and you're right- how we perform in these games determines our status in the finaLs series... the big dance...what everybody is pLaying for!!! this discussion is turning into the what came first debate....the chicken or the egg!!! haha

ive watched every minute of every game- with the gamepLan we are cLose to perfecting & with the abiLities of our pLayers this year- it wouLd be nothing short of a tragedy if we dont pLay-off in the gf!

whatever happens we're in for a heLL of a ride over the next 3 months!! and im gonna enjoy every minute of it!!!

too much hype on the "let's take it week by week" rhetoric we hear... i say to hell with the "keep a lid on it" rubbish and let them enjoy the fruits of their labor.

"To know how to win, You must first lose..."

Its an old quote I remember. We haven't reached a grand final in years, but what kind of doggies fan will doubt it? This current squad is already making history in the clubs history! and since we've had a large history of not too many successful home and away seasons in the past few decades.

Some fans will always be in doubt that we might just not make it. just by the main fact that we're not very common in grand finals I'll admit now that when we lost by 2 points to adelaide, I was thrown off AFL. I didn't watch or support the doggies for years. I thought we were definate to win the flag against the saints. I'll still remember having these horrible memories of being on the busy train ride home that day, all red white and blue, No room to sit or stand and everyones head down. That was easily the most silent train ride I had ever been on in my life.

so if you think about it. we're the strongest team in this season, We're not going to have an undefeated season and really you dont need to. I believe that all doggies fans have always been 'used to' losing. but this is a season where we should cheer louder then any other team. This squad are expecting us to make some noise because they're providing the results. What more do we want? What more do the doggies need?

When the doggies reach the grand final this year, Of course we're going to be the best the loudest fans on earth. We haven't shown up in a grand final in over 40 years. and We haven't won a final in OVER 50 years.

So I ain't keeping a lid on it. The Western Bulldogs are playing very well this year, and Im gonna let everyone know all about it too.

Because sadly, you can't hide from the fact that we have only won 11 of the 35 finals that we've contested. It is a bitter memory for most Victorian footy fans that in 1997, we had a berth in the Grand Final sewn up, and would probably have won that year, except Andrew %^#@ing Jarman and the umps robbed us. With 2 minutes left in that game, we were through.
Too much can happen. As far as i'm concerned, unless we're in the Grand Final and it's down to winning on the day, I just can't help but keep a lid on it.
As for top spot, we'll enjoy it while it lasts, but beyond the first week of finals and the double chance that comes with it, it is all sudden death and coming first in the home and away series means SFA unless you back it up with solid, winning QF and PF performances.
Let's enjoy our position in the minor rounds, but we have to clear our heads because finals are a different proposition altogether. I just hope we make every post a winner. Geelong are good, but vulnerable and we have a chance, both now and in September.

Fair enough John, but we are only half way through the season, and I just think the Doggies deserve more credit than that. It's got nothing to do with finals we've lost or GF's we could've been in, it's about how good we are at the moment and being proud of the team for the excellent footy they've been playing this year, not lamenting what could've been over 10 years ago. And so what if we miss the GF this year, the current team with all or most of them resigning we have a bright future to look forward to and we've also had a great start to the season which deserves praise and recognition. Thats how I look at it anyway.

And I know we are about to enter the dreaded second half of the season, but we will be able to sustain a couple of injuries because there are players like Street, McDougall and Harbrow that are playing really well in the VFL but theres just nowhere to slot them in at the moment, even Shaun Higgins should be right when we play Melb next week, who's spot will he take?

in a way i want us to keep the lid on it, cause it takes the spot light off us and less pressure win. But on the other hand i want the lid off. as you say it is our beat session ever and all the young guys are firing and the older players are doing well as well.
if we win over melbourne and we beat the best team in the comp the cats then the lid will be taken off. if we beat the cats then we will have a great chance of winning the flag.

GO THE MIGHTY DOGGIES
