Barry Hall playing in the midfield??
Might seem like a ridiculuous thought but what do you think about Barry "Ballbags" Hall in a rotating role through the midfield?

Barry Hall (when 100% fit) has a huge "engine". Does anyone think he is capable of rotating through the middle a la Matthew Pavlich?

When not in the middle he could play half forward flank, forward pocket, or take spells on the bench.

By doing this you could have Goodes as a true utility. He has the engine to run through the middle, has the height and agility to play half back, can be a tertiary ruckman or even play forward.

By playing Barry Hall in the midfield you could change the structure of our forward line which has been so Hall-conscious over the past few years and play Peter Everitt (if fit) as full forward, with Magic O'Loughlin and the other small forwards crumbing below.

When Jolly is resting then Goodes can cover the back half of the ground for the ruck and Everitt or even Barry Hall himself could be the forward line ruck?

Interested in your thoughts.

Well at the very least it might stop him getting so frustrated with waiting in the square- which could be good mentally for him- clearly leaving up there all game wasn't all that effective last year!LOL

Sounds good mixing things up moving him somewhere else, when he was out with injury last year there were plenty of other players that rose to the challenge and kicked some fantastic goals without him there. They can't rely on him being the 'go to' man all the time. And yeah he wasnt happy jan with the new rules last season, he would get all cranky if the ball didnt go his way and have a hissy fit, and there goes the kicking accuracy when he is cranky. We love you Baz!!

Barry is an All-Australian CHF. If it ain't broke - don't fix it. I can't agree with him being moved down back to cover players like Gehrig (he is retired by the way) because it should work the other way. Make the other team move THEIR big forward down back to cover Hall (as Gehrig was forced to do on at least 1 occasion). The fact that he is a mobile big man means he is able to provide a marking option further up the ground - but he will do his best work at CHF, while taking spells in the goal square and allowing someone like Heath Grundy some time as the half-forward focal point.

hmm, i think he turns the ball over far too much to play in defense, a bit risky. i think full forward is where he should be... if left one on one its all bets on, if not he takes two or three players with him leaving our other forwards free.. but pauls idea sounds great, i like it.. it works, well done!!

I agree with Dale. Sending him to the backline would be the best option as he is known for his bodywork, which he can put to good use on the opposition forwards - I'd love to see him on the G-train Fraser Gehrig. He could rotate through the middle - he showed throughout 2007 that he could play further up the field and effectively get the ball moving to our forwards. He does seem to have a lot in the tank still for a big older guy.

The team is too Hall focused when he plays and his ability to mark and then also convert really waned last year. In fact, when he was out injured for a few weeks last year the team was forced to kick to other players, who in turn scored. In fact one game we had 11 goal kickers - how can the opposition defend against that!?

I say send Barry to defense, and help out in the midfield! he has not been able to adapt to the hands in the back rules and i think its time for a change up forward. bit more nick davis?

Barry started his AFL in defense maybe its time for him to relive the past?

Hey Paul, until he is fit again I think he will struggle in any position. I like ur idea about the half forward line, but I reckon when he is back to his best his advantage is best exploited at FF
