Kane Johnson the Tigers 2008 captain?
Do you think there could have been a better choice than Johnson?

I'm struggling to think of one myself seeing as we have such a young side and Richo is already getting on with age (not to mention the fact that he has trouble containing his emotions).

He has taken himself out of the game against Nth Melb this week.
Honestly I would rather see him there playing, I do thik his reaction to the whole incident has shown that he does have his head in the right place, forgive and forget.

I'm not fully sure if we need to change our captain as it is his 1st offence and hopefully his last. But it was a pure loss in his character. If he were to step down as captain. Richo should get it. Richo is the spiritual leader at the club and has been there every week playing 110% and wears his heart on his sleve. It is time to give him a chance if the oppurtunity arises. The vice captains to me need a year at least to get the experience in the leadership group and then later on they will make great captains for the Richmond footy club.

Kane Johnson should retire now as captain. Stupidly within a week of Fevola getting caught urinating on a nightclub window, Kane Johnson feels the need to urinate infront of a police station close to his house.
Joel Bowden for captain!

i cant believe how stupid footy players are these days, sugar- you're an absolute idiot, although put that aside, i think he was the right choice for captain, our list is too young for a new leader, give it a season or two then starting thinking about either newman or foley, though if maybe mark coughlan can come back firing maybe give him a crack at being skipper

good start last week boys!!

I'd agree till this indescression, what can we say, he must feel quiet small at the moment.

RICHO FOR CAPTAIN
Sharon (Tigers supporter), 21 Mar 2008 23:08hide comment
Kane Johnston is the only choice i reckon.. Not jus on the feild but of the feild as well, he leads those boys beautifully.. His determination and leadership will lead the tigers onto bigger and better things.. Every player makes mistakes, we can all just look at richo for that... As much as we all love richo and would like to see him as a captain, i dont think he ever will be.. so that leaves the only other person i would rate as captain material.. Sugar.. He is a great choice, n yes mistakes have been made sumtimes fatal mistakes, buh that goes with the game, the continuos courage and leadership he shows in each and every game is great.. You look at how our players handle themselves on and off the feild since johnno captained the side. No miss bahaving, no drinking late, no pissing on windows, no drink driving, no fighting..The stick up for each other, good mates, total respect between all of them, and ive been around the club for over 10 years, and respect between players has greatly lacked.. He sets a great example, and if you think jus buy making a few mistakes during a game changes any of that.. go down to the club and ask around, besides cambo - best captain we've had for many years ..by far... and the boys wouldnt have it any other way .. go johnno, have a great year, take my tiger boys to the top..

p.s how good was it to see the blues come undone to our magical tiger boys, couldnt be more prouder

Andy Kellaway is probably my favourite player over the past 10 years, but geez he wasn't very talented. Just tough, and brave. But you need more than that to be a good footballer these days.

That said, Sugar is probably the most embarrassing captain in the AFL right now. Can't run, can't kick... can't even kick in the right direction. Only reason he's there is because the only players even close to being captain material are too young.

Foley to be captain in a couple of years unless Deledio fills out, toughens up and plays out of the middle. Then Lids would have to take the crown.

they should piss him off and give richo at least a year but foley will be a captain in the future
Adam from Melbourne (Tigers supporter), 17 Mar 2008 18:59hide comment
today richmonds captain made mention of vice captains foley and newmans hard approach in their leadership roles. Either players were capable of captaining richmond over johnson, which asks the question, will newman or foley be the one to take the helm and steer the team?

i like the captain he has been playing a stoppers role which will give the midfield more run, when deludio and tambling can start beating their oppenents like this they will be first on my list.

He has done a good job in previous times as a stopper,BUT i dont think its what a young side who cant win games needs..

The kids need inspiration someone to fly the flag and lead by example to show some emotion. As i mentioned earlier my opinion is Johnson has the personality of a brown paper bag.

I look at other captains and sugar reminds me of the kid who we all picked on at school but became captain because he was good at been told what to do..

I dont know Kane and have never met the bloke,he may be a great leader but i dont think he is the leader a young side needs.

Who would i replace him with?I am not 100% sure for me Richo would of been a great choice as he gives his all week in week out and even throws in a bit more for value. Some will say but his discipline lacks sometimes but so what the kids should know right from wrong and for pure emotion he would of been a good choice.

This will be Kane's last year as captain. Some of the younger guys need to stand up.....

My pick would of been out of Bowden, Coughlan or Brown. But if Kellaway was still there well it would be his.

worst decision we ever made dropping andy kellaway, him and his brother were absolute guns who gave their all for the club...cant say that about a lot of the players now

if he was at the club now tho he would have to be captain

Kevin from Melbourne (Tigers supporter), 20 Feb 2008 8:40hide comment
The tigers need an inspirational captain someone to lift the young guys.

Johnson has about as much personality as a brown paper bag.
He was once a premier midfielder but since he come to tigerland he's really dropped off.

The job would of and should of been Cogs if not for injury
