Adelaide's Poor AFL Coverage
Hello team,

I'll try to keep it short and to the point.

I'm a Richmond supporter with growing anger of Adelaide's media coverage of AFL.
with all the hype on making this game a big national deal and now even over seas you would think that they would iron out its local problems first.

Obviously It's a two team town but its a 16 team competition and for all the other clubs with interstate supporters they're not getting a fair go.

"WHAT'S THE PROBLEM" you ask?
1- For the last 4 weeks I have been unable to watch my team play.
2- Five media outlets covering the same game.
3- Free to air TV playing live Port/Crows games at the same time Foxtel is showing the same bloody game LIVE as well. (what is the point)

Now I know it all comes down to ratings...... does it...... does it really?

The AFL has certainly missed the mark if I have 3 radio stations to pick from, free to air TV (2 channels by the way) and the choice of purchasing foxtel
and still not be able to watch the game of my choice.

NOW TO MY MAIN POINT ON THE SAME MATTER (excuse the caps lock cause i'm yelling)
THIS WEEK IS A SPECIAL ROUND ON THE AFL CALLANDER AND THE BLOCK-BUSTER GAME ESSENDON Vs RICHMOND
IS THE DREAM TIME AT THE G CLASH.

Surprise surprise it's not on TV and I can bloody bet all 3 radio station wont be covering it either.
This is not good enough in this day and age of Football. Please pass this on to Mr. Andrew Demetriou or the appropriate avenues.

At last, someone else that shares my pain. I too am a Richmond supporter in Adelaide. This whole season there has been 2 games played on free to air tv. Richmond is also one of only 2 clubs not to play in a Friday night clash this season, maybe they could have one of Collingswoods 8 Friday night games!!!

Yes I share your pain. I live in WA...and am a Richmond supporter. I was outraged last round, round 9 that our game was not televised until the following day and our only option was to listen to 3AW via the internet.
It's bull****. I emailed Andrew Demetriou, AFL Broadcasting, Foxtel and Richmond FC yesterday....

The quote on AFL site states following palava...
A. When is the same match broadcast on both Fox Sports and a free to air network?

The agreement struck between the AFL and its broadcast partners sees teams located outside Victoria assured live or near live coverage on free-to-air television in their home market. When these games are allocated Fox Sports games (see question 2 for allocations), the game will be available on both free to air (Seven or Ten, depending on the time) and Fox Sports. Effectively this means that if Adelaide, Port Adelaide, West Coast, Fremantle, Brisbane or Sydney is competing in an allocated Fox Sports game, the game will also be broadcast into the home market on a free to air network (eg into Adelaide for a game involving Port Adelaide). In these circumstances, the game that would have been shown on free to air but for the substitution will be replayed later either on Fox Sports or a free to air network, depending on the game.

My question is surely ratings would suck for both stations or simply be spread across both stations. If they played the other game on free to air, then more choice for viewers = more ratings for each station surely!

This is what the AFL should put out to all WA AFL supporters...(or in your case Adelaide teams)

"Attention any supporters other than one eyed Eagles or Dockers"

Please note, you may be totally rorted when Fox has coverage of a game that is played by Eagles or Dockers - as it will also be played on free-to-air, so you have no coverage of your game other than 3AW radio via the internet! **** you if you aren't a one eyed Eagles or Dockers supporter!

I will keep you posted if any of the mongrels reply to my email!

Go tiges!!!

Thanks for the advise Adam... but you failed to understand my point and that is THAT FOXTEL AND FREE TO AIR PLAY THE SAME STUPID GAME LIVE so because this saturday Adelaide play West coast it will hog every media outlet in S.A available and i will not see the game any where. So if i bought foxtel i would have to wait until they replayed the game, so whats that Tuesday/Wednesday %*$# That!

I'm with you on this one Brenton, i too live in Adelaide and this is the second or third weekend this year that an adelaide or port game has been on channel 7/10 and on foxtel live at the same time, and no live or delayed coverage of the tigers game.
I've only moved 3 months ago and hooked up Foxtel thinking i'd be able to see a lot of richmond games, not realising that this town is just a two team town. The news is all about port/crows, the papers are always focused on port and crows, you go shopping at markets and they have a lot of AFL merchandise, but guess what..it's only port/crows stuff. How racist is that lol. Thanks for bringing up this very important point Brenton.
