MELBOURNE IN A NUTSHELL, WOODEN SPOON MY ASS..............
Id like to get this straight... Melbourne is fare better than most people think. WOODEN SPOON MY ASS. Last year we had more injuries than ANY other team. Im Sick of St Kilda winging EVERY year about having half a dozen injuries. EVERY BLOODY TEAM DOES! Last year, we not only had injuries off field, But some of our best players had to play injured just to fill a decent side eg. Davey, Robertson, Neitz, Mclean etc, etc. I can tell you right now ,with a decent run of injuries, a year more from our younger players like sylvia, bate,jones,bartram,petard,newton... A fit Matty Wheelan, Rivers, Mclean, Moloney etc plus the newbies Morton(WILL BE A STAR), grimes, merrick etc. and a few games to get used to baily's coaching style(Who will be a gun coach...part of Essendon 2000 and Ports 2004 Premiership Coaching staff)... We will be well on the way to genuine top 3 within a couple of years. Read this post then, and you will say I TOLD U SO.......

Good on you, Alex. It was very depressing to read the "Crystal Ball" stuff in The Age and see how many had selected Melbourne for their wooden spoon. Nice to read something a bit more positive.

Got to say, though, I reckon your read on Davey isn't quite right. I think he became ineffective last year because opposition teams worked out that the way he gets himself into a game is to lay superb defensive tackles early in the quarter. The number of times I watched him being shepherded off the ball as he was trying to chase down the opposition defender carrying the ball out of defense exhausted me.

I remember Robert Walls wrote a column before last season saying the Demons were going to do very badly despite their list - and that was before any injuries. I kept wanting to ring in to Gerard Whateley's The Final Word to ask how Walls knew that and what it was about the Demons infrastructure that was so fundamentally wrong.

Maybe if the front office stopped spending so much time worrying about running a pokies venue and spent more time getting the capital investment aimed at positive footballing outcomes.
