Boyle the answer as key backman?
It appears apparent the three talls up forward may not be working, Hawthorns main deficiency is lack of genuine talls down back. Lets not kid ourselves Gilham is not the answer, nor is Murphy who is just not up to it.

Not getting many responses here, so I will throw a curly one out there.

How long will the Hawks persist with Mark Williams playing crap football, in a week where we saw milney go to the VFL, surely Willo is not far off. He appears reluctant to have a shot at goal and thinks he has to give it to Buddy all the time even though it is clearly not the right option. Do what you are paid to do Willo and have a shot if within distance.
Don't get me wrong I am not bitter with the loss to kangas, I just think we are a lot better than that and we should not of expected any less than what the kangas served up at the 'G'.
Please let me know what you think, do I have a point or have I lost it.

Roughy might be 5th in the Coleman, but what happens when our midfield gets smashed? Our backline gets shat on. Croad get's the job done but Campbell Brown busts his arse week after week playing on bigger opponents having to cover Gilham because he has no body strength. I love Roughy up foward kicking goals just as much as you mate, but we're not going to going to win a premiership with one 1 key position defender.

totally concur...thank god for Brown otherwise Hawthorn would have lost a lot more games this year

Yeah I agree with Roughy playing across the halfback line, when it is required. Roughy could set up counter-attacks in similar ways that the cats use their halfback line. Hawthorn already has a host of quality forwards that can kick a reasonable score. Too much emphasis and responsibility has left Brown and Croad picking up the Key forwards. Not too sure bout Boyle playing back, only one-way to find out.

I bet you're eating your words now huh? marky williams kept us in the game against the swans early on and sealed it for us.
the difference between williams and milne is that milne is the saints #1 goal kicker and one of their main targets. Williams is the 3rd option and he's a marking forward, milne is a goal sneak, we've got cyril to do that job.
Boyle has played both positions unless i'm mistake but i don't really think a tall backman is what we lack right now, not with croad, murphy and gilham, the latter two just need experience.
i don't think the hawks need anything apart from having a totally fit team

roughy as a defender whats wrong with you man, roughy is sitting equal 5th on the coleman, you got **** for brains

Sorry but Boyle is not a backmans A*%$hole. Thorpy or Dowler or at some stage in his career Roughy are the answers.

Boyle has recently recovered from injury and should be playing at Box Hill to get some form.
Willo looks lost out on the field like he has no idea what role he should be playing.
The team is looking for Buddy way too much. Three tall forwards is a good idea to stretch the opposition. Maybe Thorp or Dowler could be brought in as new options.
The ball coming down to the forwards is mainly ineffective and we don't man up on the opposition that's why we have two or three against Buddy and Roughy as happened against the roos.
Sewell is a big loss, maybe try Kennedy in the midfield as he has grunt.
Morton is improving so there's good signs. Ellis is patchy and needs beef.

Our backline is undermanned and we missed out on Thornton last year and should look to trade for a key defender.
Campbell can do it but we need him in the ruck. Boyle is a maybe but Dawson is not ready and maybe never will be. So it's a key area to address.
Gilham is okay at times and Murphy serviceable at times.
When we get all our players on the park, that way we score more often and can hide our deficiency in defence.
The better players can go down and help the defenders as when we get a fast turn over its handing the opposition a goal', a la Thomas of the roos who cut us up badly.
