Hawthorn predicted by footy experts to finish 3rd this 2008 season - What do you think ?
This is the prediction of the AFL footy experts in The Sun-Herald Footy Guide 2008 !!

Reason:
Structurally the Hawks have everything covered. They've got 2 ruckman (Campbell & Taylor) who are not yet stars, but perform the roles asked of them. They've got a talented midfield (led by Mitchell, Hodge & Crawford). They've got 3 marking forwards (Franklin. Roughead & Boyle) and several handy mid-sized players. Their draft choices have been specific. There is no element of chance in in the Hawks set-up.

What do you think ?

Taylor is no good - we'd be better off playing Max Bailey!!! We need to relocate Roughy to the bench, Boxhill or defence until he learns how to chase, once he doesn't mark it, he stops!!

why would you even consider moving croady he has been great since his return from injury,he made jonno brown look very ordinary and not too many blokes can throw that on their resume
Andrew from Adelaide (Hawks supporter), 16 May 2008 17:20 hide comment
have you ingested some acid of late because to make that comment about roughy tells me that you have no idea about the game or are are on some serious hallucinagenics!!! he is a gun,it is roughy that has been winning these games for us when the confused and dumbfounded coaches of the opposition choose vto double team, nay triple team buddy boy. roughhead stays put if we want to win a flag.

told you roughhead will only get better...his dominating
Nelson from Perth (Hawks supporter), 9 Apr 2008 21:26 hide comment
What? Taylor is a solid ruckman, not the best but he does a decent job. rough head is young, his 21 and is so far averaging almost 4 goals a game. he will only get better as a forward
Ryan from Melbourne (Hawks supporter), 15 May 2008 20:34 hide comment
i reckon hawks will come 1st or 2nd
Jared from Melbourne (Hawks supporter), 14 May 2008 17:01 hide comment
I don't think that we r going 2 finish 3rd at all. We still have a chance 2 finish on top that's if we beat Geelong in round 17 which i think we will

Some weird comments on this thread. Taylor has stood up so far this season and is playing his best footy yet. Roughead is a class forward and has shown a lot of spirit in defence this season also. Our lack of physical size in our backline is what worries people. I'd love it if we had another player the size of Croad back there but unfortunately we don't. We do however get bucket loads of drive from our backline and our defence has proven itself to more than capable. I would like to see how they measure up against a full blown St Kilda forward line though. That would be a real test

Size isn't necessarily everything for a defender though. Gavin Wanganeen was one of the greatest of all time, and he wasn't at all huge at about 180cm tall.
food for thought. . . .

i think its a fair call, the hawks are still a young and in-experience side, although im a massive hawks supporter, expect a few hiccupps from now but a strong chance to make the gf, we actually have 3 good ruckman although max bailey is out injured, a quality midfield which also includes chance bateman, micheal osborne, clinton young and why does every one forget brad sewell???, Our backline is gettin stronger too, birchall is awesome at rebounding, guerra is tough as rusty nails, expect good things this year tho, carn the hawks

anything but a premiership could be classed as a loss but we are certainly improving all the time. playing awesome at the moment
Darcy (Hawks supporter), 14 Apr 2008 18:03 hide comment
robbie campbell is a gun ruckman for someone of his weight and he can be dropped down in the backline when our small young backline isnt holding up, as shown against kangaroos last week in the last quarter. i think we have one of the best midfields in the league and our forward line isnt far off it, once we have a full strength backline and our younger boys get some more experience, we will be better than geelong
Hao from Melbourne (Hawks supporter), 7 Apr 2008 10:33 hide comment
I think 3rd is definitely a realistic prediction for the hawks. I keep hearing people call up on radio and say that the hawks have no backline, and again I don't see our backline get a mention in that article, which really annoys me. I think our backline is one of the best and most underrated in the league. Croady and Browny get most of the credit, but just because Stephen Gilham isn't a well known player doesn't make him any less of a factor in our backline. Take Matthew Egan for example, no one had heard of him before last year. Gilham's done a solid job every game he's played and provides good drive out of defence along with Birch, Guerra and Ladson. Then we've got the young, promising Tom Murphy, and Campbell the ruckman who can go back and play key position and beat his opponent. I think that with our midfield, and our forward line, if we don't finish top 4 it would be a bit of a diasppointing year.

Anyway sorry for the rant, just had to get it out there =]

hawks now have a list that can push for top 4 spot but we still have some hurdles to over come we need to keep winning games until our key player like crawford hodge come back and if we want to be serious contenders we need to be more disapline and win more of the games we know we should win if we can do all that and minamise the amount of injuries then we might have a chance at the big one
Madeleine. from Broadford (Hawks supporter), 1 Apr 2008 8:24 hide comment
i rekon that Robert Campbell is a STAR!
Luke from Perth (Hawks supporter), 31 Mar 2008 19:17 hide comment
by saying the hawks will finish 3rd means most people would say geelong top saints second which may happen but the saints may have won the nab cup but 2 weeks in have not proved they are worthy just yet so the hawks may finish top 2 but lets not get ahead of ourselves anything in the top 4 would be great to gain more finals experience so if not this year the hawks will give it a real crack next year
Benn from Melbourne (Hawks supporter), 31 Mar 2008 12:18 hide comment
3rd is realistic & 2nd could be justified, but the season is long and many factors can influence...fingers crossed that we have no serious injuries, losing croad and dew could hurt early
