The incident occurred while Cornes and his brother, Kane, were helping their mother, Pam, move out of the home she had shared with Phillis after complications had arisen in their marriage.
Cornes says he is disappointed at police investigations into what he claims is a trivial issue between the two parties.
"I am disappointed that a very minor altercation involving myself and Fred, which was no more than a push, occurred at all," Cornes said in a statement.
"We have not spoken to all parties, but believe the matter to be minor and essentially a family issue."
Phillis, however, disagreed, saying, "I can't comment, but three of them and one of me. Two are AFL footballers and I'm 59. You work it out."
