The AFL appoints a retired Supreme Court, the Honourable Justice William Gillard judge, to investigate if the Eagles have sufficiently undertaken the necessary steps to address the recent controversies surrounding the conduct of the club and its players.

The Eagles later announce that they will launch their own internal inquiry into the club's culture saying it expects further evidence of suspect off-field by their players to be revealed.

"Anything that has come to the table will come out in this review," chief executive Trevor Nisbett said.

"I'm sure some people won't be happy with some of the things that come out of it. But that's the nature of a review and it's all about moving forward. There is nothing to hide."
