In response to the Kangaroos rejecting their lucrative Gold Coast package, the AFL has acted swiftly in removing the club from future Gold Coast plans.

February's community camp will now be shifted to Bairnsdale while the Kangaroos will also not be playing Brisbane at Carrara as part of the pre-season cup as planned.

Instead, the AFL has indicated that it will schedule another team to play Brisbane up north in place of the Kangaroos.

Plans are also in place to reduce the number of games played by the Kangaroos at the Gold Coast from four to three next year while the 2009 fixture will probably not include any games at all for the Kangaroos at Carrara.

Meanwhile, Kangaroos chief executive Rick Aylett resigns from the club's board, citing personal reasons for standing down while expressing doubt over its long-term prospects.

"This will only be achieved with a realistic, financially viable business plan. There must be significant guaranteed income, coupled with realistically achievable sources of additional revenue," Aylett said.

New chairman James Brayshaw expressed admiration for Aylett's honesty, saying, "He sees the club going in a different direction and I respect the fact that he had the courage to instantly recognise that his direction was not the same as the rest of us."
